Ok, I've been thinking, why don't we all work together and make the PTT/SPP parody posters actual movies? I have soundtracks/actual movies of some of them (Beetlejuice, Back to the Future, JAWS, etc.), and some of us could make puppets of the characters, and maybe some of us can do voices (I do a mean Pasqually :) ). What do you guys say?

That would or would not be perfect for ABC's "AFV - America's Funniest Videos" TV show.

You could get around copyright as long as you don't make any money at all. Fan movies are perfectly legal as long as they don't defame the company.

honestly, while i commend your spirit, I dont think it would work for a few reasons:

there is a "fair use" clause in copyright laws, which covers parody and such, hence the beaglejuice posters and such.

Now CEC could not sell those posters or use them in advertising. thats not covered.

In all reality, fan projects, sites, and parodies tend to fall in the "fair use" realm.....

But the copyright holder has the right to protect their copyright, if they feel it offends, gives them a bad name, or is inapropriate in any way.

an example is Fox is notorious for shutting down fan projects, since they feel its infringing on their property.

So its a really grey area for the fan movies, just be aware of that.

Next, interest.

how much interest do you think your movies would generate? This site is awesome, and is the ONLY site of its nature and quality, yet has 202 members at present on the forums.

Either way, im willing to help, i can do various voices, and suggestions for script ideas, and whatnot.

If you want it to work, id suggest making short 10-15 minute movies, or trailers. saves on time, and bandwidth.

I would look at a project like this as something to do "just for fun" and I wouldn't take it any further than that on expectations. By that I mean if a few people got together and made a short little movie and posted it on the site for the fun of making it why not? That wouldn't be a problem. But to pitch it to CEC or do anything beyond that I would say don't bother.
