Howdy folks...

Thought this might be a interesting topic.

I've been thinking about some of the old shows from back in the day...way way waaaayyyy back. What do we know exsists at the moment on reels?

Obvious we know there was a FIRST show reel made, which more then likely had Crusty the Cat on it. Afterwards it's anyone's guess, but we now know that "Goose" Helen replaced Crusty ( there is photographic proof on this) so this would naturally mean a 1st "Helen" show reel.

After her, we know of 2 more "Guests": Munch ( 78') and the first version of Madame Oink ( 79/80'). We also then see Sally the Skunk and Foxy Colleen appear ( 79/80') and we know reels exsist for both of them, one each i'm guessing.

So here's a hypothetical list of what the early show reel lineup could be:

1st PTT reel ( 77' with Crusty) Very short skits that only played at scheduled times of the day/night ( like a real theatre act would be doing)

2nd version with Helen added ( 78') Similar layout ( short skits scheduled)

3rd Show with Munch introduced ( 78'/79', possible 2 shows exsit maybe?)
4th Show with the new "Guest" Madame Oink (79'80' IF she actually DID appear in her early guise in a actual store. This is questionable)

Foxy Colleen reel ( 79/80') We know she was both a Shelf Bot' and a CyberBot' so it very likely two or more shows were made.

Sally reel (79/80') two may have exsisted as we know of a X-mas reel so no doubt a "regular" show was made as well.

Harmony reels ( 81'/82') Two great shows were made, "Harmony's Wild West Show" and "Harmony's Hoedown".

Madame Oink reels ( 82'/83') Three shows exsist for Oink, "Around the World with Madame Oink", "Tunnel of Love", and "The Tune Machine with Madame Oink"

Helen Henny reels ( 83' and on). There are several of course, as she outlasted all the other "Guests". Since we are focusing on PTT era only here, i will list those produced by PTT Inc. We start with "Broadway Helen Henny" which was her debut ( in adult chicken form) in 83' and this show was followed by "Band Stand" 1 and 2 if a remember right. We also have a X-mas reel that was produced for Dec of 83' i beleive, or maybe it was 84. I forget! Ah well....Classic PTT was over by the beginning of 84 anyway.

So are there any i am missing here?

Feel free to post therories about the earlier shows.

We know there were 2 earlier reels on Oink. Madame Oink #2 Around the World with Madame Oink has surfaced. We do not know what #1 was so it is certain that the earlier version did appear in the 70s. The 2 80s reels were "The Tune Machine" (not the same reel as the later reel with Helen nor does it bear any relation to the RAE show of the same name) and "Tunnel of Love". I forget which of those is #3 and #4. I'm too lazy to look. I do believe Foxy and Sally had only one reel each. Both contain nearly identical shows and the material is very limited. Harmony had 2 distinctly different shows that were full length as noted already. My sister is getting married this weekend, but I will sit down and go through what I have and try to form a complete PTT era list. Maybe Pizza Cam can help me fill in the cracks. Between the 2 of us I think we can get everything PTT era up to about 1988 when they dropped the name "Pizza Time Theatre" and became "Showbiz Pizza" across the board. Showbiz Pizza Time was more a parent company name and both restaurants ran under seperate names until then. At any rate I think the "Pizza Time" era ends in 1988 when they go cyberstar. A few stores were still on reels into 89 but 88 is pretty much the end of the era and that is about the time the modern "CEC" restaurants begin. Then we will also have to list the reels for the 8 known caberets and lounges and ice cream parlor:

Dolli
Artie
King
Beagles
Bowzers
King Kat
BB Bubbles
Little Shavers

Of course "Around the World" is dated 1980 which suggests that Sally, Foxy and Oink and maybe even an earlier Helen were all used simultaneously in different stores. Harmony was probably the first uniform guest across the board. She is advertised and promoted in ads that ran in 82 as part of the cast. That is why I had no idea she was a "guest" until I saw Madame Oink come in at the new store. I do believe there was some cross over with Harmony and Oink though but hard to say.

Dang, you gotta let me borrow "Around the world" I only ever found #3 and #4 and traded them to you...I think eventually we'll fill in the missing gaps. I think out of all the older stuff Dolli's gotta be my favorite. Dolli's exactly what I thought Oink was gonna be until I got her reels...I was disappointed. |I I really DO love the last 2 King reels from '90 and the '93 compilation "Still The King" probably cause he was here until '94. :D "King '95" was just plain sad though, it should've been called "CEC '95" he went down in flames...I'm glad I never saw them use that here. :rolleyes >:

Im not sure that I have the actual Madame Oink reel. When I listened to the one with that lable it was something else. It may be on another reel. I need to inventory what I have and I'll let you know. Just looking at the label though, it was done in 1980. Foxy Colleen's Irish Stew is also dated 80. Sadly my Sally X-mas reel is not dated. That is the only copy of her show we have ever found. I am pretty confident that Sally and Foxy only had one reel but knowing Oink had 2 then makes me wonder.

I am pretty sure that your Sally reel is from 79'. Early Oink shows ( with the first version of her) would be around the same time period, but none have surfaced yet. One of these days....

So here is a hypothisied list: ( Does not include X-mas Shows issued in 80's)

Reel 1 Original generic show ( 77')
Reel 2 Original "goose" Helen reel ( 77')
Reel 3 Only Crusty reel ( 78')
Reel 4 First Oink reel ( 78')
Reel 5 /6 Sally reel(s) ( 79'/80')
Reel 7/8 Foxy reel (s) includes "Irish Stew" ( 80')
Reel 9 Harmony 1 ( Wild West Show) ( 81')
Reel 10 Harmony 2 ( Harmony's Hoedown) ( 82')
Reel 11 Oink 1 ( Around the World) ( 82')
Reel 12 Oink 2 ( Tunnel of Love) ( 82')
Reel 13 Oink 3 ( Tune Machine) ( 82')
Reel 14 Helen 1 ( Broadway Helen Henny) ( 83')
Reel 15 Helen 2 ( Talent Show) ( 84')
Reel 16 Helen 3 ( CEC Radio) ( 85')
Reel 17 Helen 4 Generic (85')

End of "Classic PTT" era

Hypothesised list on Caberet/Lounge shows: ( does not contain any X-mas reels)

In order of appearence in stores

Cab show 1- Dolli Dimples

Original reel ( pilot recorded for original "latex" Dolli)(79')
Reel 1 Dolli Dimples ( 80')
Reel 2 Dolli Dimples show 2 ( 81')
Reel 3 Dolli Dimples 3 ( 82')
Reel 4 Dolli Dimples 4 ( possible but not confirmed. My opinion: Probably does not exsist as Cab shows were being phased out production wise at this point)

Cab Show 2- Artie Antlers

Original pilot reel for pre-Artie character Elkton John (79') ( i have always strongly felt Artie was originally this confirmed character but due to legal issues was not used. Elkton was then converted and became Artie)

Reel 1 Artie Antlers 1 ( 80')
Reel 2 Artie Antlers 2 ( 81')
Reel 3 ( not likely to exsist as Artie was one of the rarer Cab shows. He was pretty much gone by 83' so old shows would have been reused)

Lounge Show 1- The Beagles

Reel 1 The Beagles (81')
Reel 2 The Beagles 2 (82')
Reel 3 Could exsist...

Lounge Show 2- The King

Reel 1 The King (81')
Reel 2 The King 2 (82')
Reel 3 The King 3 ( 83')
Possible 4th reel may exsist

Cab Show 3- B. B. Bubbles

Reel 1 B. B. Bubbles ( 83') ( only one reel would exsist..i am pretty certain about this)

Lounge Show 3- The Beach Bowsers

Reel 1 The Beach Bowzers ( 83')
Reel 2 The Beach Bowzers ( 85')
Reel 3 Possible extra reel exsists as this show ran until the late 80's

Lounge Show 4- King Kat

Reel 1 King Kat Hits ( 84'/85')
( Only one reel exsists, like most later shows)

Unless I have missed something Dolli only had 2 reels unless proof of a third has suddenly surfaced.

King did have 4 reels. I have the box for King IV but not the reel. Variations with Birthdays and Christmases did exist too.

The Beagles have 3 reels. I have 1, 2 and 3.

The Beach Bowzers... in the 80s I believe they only had 1. I have yet to see proof of a second.

King... they did 2 in 90s. They did a #1 and a #2. Still the King is the same as #1.

Bowzers... I have a 90s Bowzer reel #1. This is the only other one i have seen besides the Bowzer reel in the 80s. Given King and the Bowzers had reels in the 90s, the Beagles most certainly had one as well.

I am certain BB and King Kat only had one reel each. I think the Bowzers were the later retrofit kit for the Beagles as thats all BB and King Krap were to King and Dolli. Therefore I think each of these retro fits have 1 reel each. Dolli, Artie and BB did not exist past about 1988. I think they were done a way with around 85 or 86 though. Therefore they do not have reels in the 1990s or upgrades to their eproms as the King and Beagles/Bowzer shows did later.

The little Shavers show which went in the icecream parlor I can almost guarantee had but one reel as there are very few of those that ever were done since it was a test.

I think that covers all the known side show/caberets. We have no real evidence that Wolfman Zack or the Hollywood chickens or any others were anything mroe than rumors or prototype ideas.

Also, my reel which has no tape in it shows the "Around the World with Madame Oink #2" being dated as 80. Foxy Colleen Irish stew is also dated 1980. Unfortunately Sally Sashay has no date on it and was in the wrong box when I got it. I suspect it was '80 as well.

The King, The Beagles and The Beach Bowsers both ran until '95 at a few stores. Here in San Antonio we had The King and The Beagles until mid '94.

Yes, it is true that those Lounge shows ( Beagles, King and Bowzers) ran well into the 90's....but the question is IF they were running on NEW show reels made at that time period, or simply running off of OLD reels from the 80's.

Thanks Captain for adding some insight into the above list.

So Helen had four reels? AWESOME!:D

pizzacam
12-10-2006, 11:42 AM
Helen had tons cause she had at least 1 as the original "duck" Helen and then from like 84-91 Helen was on every reel so more like 25 or 30 reels, then onto VHS... ;)

Shiney Happy Jenn
12-10-2006, 07:19 PM
Yeah Nevin....Helen has spanned the largest time period for a "Guest" so naturally she is on more reels then the other girls.

Just what you wanted to hear i'm sure....lol!

But keep in mind we are talking about Broadway Helen, not the young MMBB Helen you like. She was a very different character before CU.

I like the original Helen more than the current one, although most people found the constant clucking annoying...:(

Yeah if you get past the bocking/clucking (which did get reduced as time went on) Broadway Helen was a better character than modern Helen.

ok now i'm Puzzled.

my local store Opened as a PTT in '83

The first Cabaret show I REMEMBER seeing at this location was The Beagles in '89 the store got them from another location. about a year or so later By by Beagles Hellio KING. he stayed until the '93 remodel. Now i'm WONDERING is it POSSIBLE my store MIGHT have had Dolli in that room & I was never aware of it.

Yeah sure, by the time I was going to the Military store here all it had was the beagles and the main show but when it opened it had Dolli, The King and The Little Shavers.

Dolli was phased out in 85 or 86 so it is likely she was at many stores and the Beagles or Bowzers were moved from another store and put in in her place. I am pretty sure the Fielder/303 store in Arlington Tx had Dolli in addition to the King. The head manager there said she was pretty sure they did years ago. What puzzles me is there are almost no Artie Antlers that we know of. Jenn saw one and a BB but aside from her no one ever saw those 2 at their stores. That probably helps explain why none have come up.

Right Capt.:D And Yes Jenn I'm very estatic to hear that my favorite character has spanned from the largest time period for a guest star.:D

And she's had the most variations... The "hippy Chick" (no pun intended), Broadway/classic balcony Helen and the new modern one.
