If anyone from the Entertainment Department is on here, I need to let you know about an issue with the Diagnostic portion of the DVD's.

If any of you techs have the 3-stage DVD and have done the diagnostics, take a look at the "spot lights" portion (its easier to see what the problem is there). Watch the monitor and your spot light at the same time.

You will notice that the video lags behind, so you see your stage spot light come on and then less than half a second later you see the spot light on the video come on. This is actually a lot of time when you are trying to adjust a character movement because my stage character has already started to move before the character on the video moves.
If you watch the Diagnostic skit it is a bit more obvious (watch the lights such as chuck e's jukebox). The mouths are in sync with the audio, just not the video.

It does this on the April 2005 and Summer 2005 DVD's.

Yeah Matt (Mix) said it's cause of the compression. Too much data for that much space :( They may have to rethink this...

This is tough to say, because I don't work there anymore. The compression rate should have nothing to do with the sync lagging.

That's right. The compression should just affect the video and audio quality. I'll run some more tests this weekend with the April 2005 and Summer 2005 DVD's to see if there is any difference at all. Though I have seen DVD video and audio get out of sync on DVD's made on PC's depending on hardware, software, etc. I noticed something was up when most of my character movements were not matching the DVD, and I keep them pretty well tuned. Wish I still had the VHS Diagnostic tape to compare it to.

Does anyone have Michael's e-mail (in Entertainment Dept)? If so, send it to me and I'll send him the details on what I found. Thanks.
