Hey guys, I got a query here...
I was watching the maintenance section of the back of house training video and toward the end they show a brief exterior shot of a CEC that has a sign with the famous Chuck in his yellow shirt logo, but he's wearing his derby instead of the baseball cap! I pointed this out to everybody in the store and they were all like "You're the only one that would notice something like that". So what the hell? Can anybody shed some light on this?

Perhaps it was an alternate logo; many companies design several variants of their logos. It's kinda hard to explain why Chuck was wearing a derby when he should've been wearing his cap.

January 2003, i think? But of course training videos are compiled when they are produced, so some segments are older than others

That was a shot of the Irving TX location about a mile away from the support center. The logo you are talking about was the original prototype of that style dubbed "thumb-chuck." It stuck around for a long time too only at that location. It has since been replaced with the new purple shirt CEC logo. There is also a location in North Richland Hills TX that has the thumb chuck logo wearing the new purple shirt. They wanted to keep the same actual sign structure and just add a new cover, it looks weird too, because instead of just changing the color of the shirt in the original art, you can tell they re-drew Chuck to fit in the old outline of the original sign and it just doesn't quite look right. I think they were experimenting with doing that to save money. I think the final decision was to just to completely replace the old signs with the new logo.

The derby/yellow shirt Chuck E. has appeared on the Irving, Texas location CEC signage. I even saw the derby/yellow shirt Chuck E. face hanging somewhere in the Irving, Texas CEC Entertainment HQ Support Center which I toured in May 2001.
