In CEC or SPP, did the show programmers ever use random lines of dialogue set up as a triggered event for the animatronics? I know CEC uses random movements between sets, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm asking about a playlist of lines that can be individually selected and triggered by a staff member to add a sense of spontaneity to the characters. I know Disney does it with actions, and I'm thinking this would be an awesome feature for our original project, somewhere down the line.

I don't believe either chain ever has; but I like that idea.

The closest they ever got was with the interactive Billy Bob (and yeah I know that isn't really the same thing at all).

I'm sure it would be easier to do now, with digital storage instead of tapes. I just wondered if CEC had tried it. An iTunes playlist is about all you need to make it happen and happen fast. It wouldn't have been completely impossible for them back in the day. Broadcasters used tape cart machines to insert commercials in those days. Definitely not practical for the times, however, and expensive.

It's fun to think about, though. I could just imagine Fatz telling some whiney kid, "Boy, pipe down and pay attention to the show! You weren't raised in a jungle!" Talk about nightmare material!

That would be awesome! Give kids even more reason to fear Fatz! Haha!

See if Aaron has any interest in doing something like that.

I may do that if the opportunity comes up. It occurred to me when my group was performing today. We sing from music tracks on an iPod. We have about 120 tracks in our library. I pull the ones we need for a particular show out into a playlist. But if we need to pad the show out, or change material at some point, I can do it on the fly, right in the middle of the show.

I think something like that, with random lines of dialogue, would add to an animatronic character's appeal. Or maybe just the freak out factor. Either way, it's fun! :D

Yes! Especaily if it's in between the longer songs/skits.

(Curtians open).

ROLFE: Just a reminder, that we accept tips...

EARL: Shut up! We need to get back to rehearsing. Sorry about that, folks...

(Curtains close).

Random, 1 or 2 lines of dialogue like that would be a blast.

Heheh.

(curtains open)

Earl: So, you went to the doctor, eh!

Rolfe: Yes! I told him I had ringing in the ears.

Earl: What did he say?

Rolfe: Don't answer!

Earl: Argh! Unfortunately, folks, Rolfe will be here all week.

Rolfe: Try the veal!

(curtain closes)

Nah, I think Rolfe stole his jokes from Henny Youngman or Rodney Dangerfield. :)

LOL! Okay, you get points for knowing who Henny Youngman is. :)

I do have my cheesy side.

It goes well with crackers.

Okay, so I've been giving this a bit of thought. I have one character...well, two actually since Rolfe brings his own sidekick. Which gives them an advantage in that you can actually set up dialogue between the two. So, Rolfe and Earl are a comedy act, but didn't really get to do that much comedy. This kind of quick exchange of one-liners is perfect for them. Aaron could record a whole bunch of short gags and have them in a playlist to insert into his programs whenever he wants to punch up the show, make it topical, or even give it local relevance.

I like it. :)

Oh, and Paul... just make sure you don't have whine with that cheese. :D :D

:))

Love that idea. It could of course work for almost any AA show but if this was still the "Showbiz era" I think that would be really popular if it was put into all 200+ locations.

Speaking of ol' Rolfey; how's he doing at your place? Has he done anything interesting, or is he just standing there being a lazy good-for-nothing? :)

Rolfie now a working set of Mac valves, a new compressor and a tone decoder... just built today by his technical assistant, AKA my brother. Thanks for asking!

I bought a group of 4 robots on eBay. Most of them are just bare robots (Fatz, Beach Bear, Mitzi) with no cosmetics, but Rolfe had his mask, head fur, hands and Earl. So, I tracked down the rest of the cosmetics here and on eBay. They are now complete!

Rolfe always tells me that you complete him. :) Guess that's what he meant.

Rolfe's a literalist.
