:cec_thumbs: I already know what I'm going to be on Halloween!! :-> Planning ahead is always wonderful...

So. I already have the beginnings of my costume. I have... POM POMS! >:) They were even on sale!! White and Green Slinky brand pompoms that were on sale for 20 cents each. I feel so awesome!

Next step: Hit up Party City before the Halloween rush begins and get some mouse ears and a blonde wig. Then, somehow figure out how to make the outfit :)) I cant sew to save my life, so I'll probly badger someone into it!

1862 TADAH!
The only bad thing is that nobody will know who I am :))

Well, thanks! I'll be posting more pictures as I progress... it might take a while. Tomorrow I'm meeting someone, and on Monday school starts, so I'm kinda booked. Maybe on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday I can find some mouse ears!! :D

Why look for some, when you could make some?? Find some felt and maybe some foam, and make them... Same thing to do for her snout, try making it maybe?? I'm sure if you look online though, you might be able to find a sweater for your costume...

Goodwill or the Salvation Army Stores are great places to find things that can be modified into a costume. Start with a cream colored sweater and green skirt and use felt to add the cheerleader details. If you want the cream colored panels in the skirt, that might be a bit more difficult. It would definitely be easier to have the skirt made, in that case. All of the pattern companies have cheerleader uniform patterns.

Mouse ear/tail kits aren't that expensive and are easy to find at Halloween, but you can make your own with felt/fur and a headband. Saddle shoes are going to be a bit trickier. Costume saddle shoes are available online and cost around 25 bucks. Real saddles are much more expensive (I should know!). Pic and Pay shoes carries a mid range brand for school uniforms. You could try there. Sometimes, they show up in the Goodwill or Salvation Army stores, too. If you don't want to buy saddles, you could make felt spats to go over your tennis shoes that would make them look like saddles.

Personally, I don't like those plastic animal snouts. They are bulky and uncomfortable and don't look a bit cute. Unless you spring for a more professional level prosthetic that's applied with spirit gum, you're stuck with the elastic around the head type. Instead, I'd use makeup. Animal makeup kits at Halloween have little instruction guides on creating a cat/dog/lion face with just makeup. You could adapt one of those. I like that look a lot better than the plastic noses, but you might feel differently.

I hope these suggestions help. When you get your costume done, I hope we get to see the pictures!

To solve the problem of no one knowing who you are, add one of those convention name stickers that says "my name is Mitzi"

I decided to just use the type of shoes that the cheerleaders at my school use... not bothering with saddle shoes. Too much of a hastle... I don't think anyone will really care what type of shoes I'm wearing anyway.

To solve the problem of no one knowing who you are, add one of those convention name stickers that says "my name is Mitzi" OH! I should have thought of that years ago! You are a genius... I could have used that about three years ago when I went as Katara from that Nicktoons show Avatar: The Last Airbender. Seriously, only one person knew who I was supposed to be. I'll have to do that! Thanks for the awesome idea!

I don't know if I'm even gonna bother with a snout, honestly. Maybe I'll just experiment with some face paint. I'm going to get a long sleeved white shirt (and add details obviously) for my costume since it's usually too hot down here in Texas to wear sweaters. I'm probably gonna badger either my mom or one of my buddies into making me a skirt, though. ;) Knowing people that can do things for you is absolutely perfect!!

More updates to come... I might drag my friend to Party City tonight to pick up some mouse ears and blonde wig... Being semi-blonde in the sunlight just isn't good enough for this...

Just remember to keep it simple.... Look at the pic in the link provided. As you can tell its not 100% Mitzi but you can definitely get the feeling of what she was going for.

Off the shelf sweater and skirt. Felt "M". Cheap ears, cheap pom poms. And you cannot see it to good in the pic put she acutally had a plain pair of white tennis shoes that she used a sharpie on to make them look like saddle shoes!

(and fyi it was orange instead of green since she was from texas)

Yeah, I'm notorious for keeping things toned down... in fact, one costume I did for an anime convention my friend bribed me into going to had nothing but a cheap pink wig, a cloak my brother wore two years straight on Halloween, and some chain I sewed on the cloak. At least I wasn't the absolute worst cosplayer there, though.

I'm gonna at least try to make this one at least half-way decent, though. XD

Yeah, for the skirt, I'm gonna either have someone make one for me, or just buy a green skirt wheather it looks like a cheerleader skirt or not. One thing I'm sure about (well technically two) is that I want to get some relatively nice mouse ears and a blonde wig.

Meh. Longhorns. I live in Texas so I kind of have to support them, but after that one game they played in against Nebraska a few years back... nobody in my house has liked them as much XD We're all Nebraska fans here!

D'oh! I forgot about the marker-on-the-tennis shoe trick! We actually had to do that for a little girl's costume one year.

My shoes are actually real shoes that I'm going to be wearing to school, so if I do decide to make them look like saddle shoes, I'm probably gonna just tape black paper on them :D

One way you could make the saddles is cut them out of felt, then use temporary applique glue to hold them down. It will hold better than tape, removes easily and doesn't leave a residue. I use it to attach temporary decorations to costumes all the time, when I don't want to permanently alter the base costume. Fabric stores have it, and sometimes Wal-mart.

Well, us folk 'round here in Texas just ain't made of money... we needs stuff that's practical and affordable and can be worn on all occasions. :P Plus I need to get rid of all my shoes that are too small for me before I can get any more :( Time for a closet dump-out after school starts... :(

On another note, there's my wig! It's a tad too light, but the color was also butchered by the flash. It will also be mega-dark out when I'm trick-or-treating with my brother, so it won't be too noticable. Plus, I can use the wig for other things! Again with the whole "things have to have multiple purpouses" deal... So it's a good thing wigs like this can be flexible! I'm going to have to get some green hair bands for this, though... all my green ones decided to go and break on me... meh. I... really hate this picture. Well, I hate all pictures of me, but that's beside the point. I might put a pic up of just the wig and not my zombie-derp face later on.

OK! I'm doing a happy dance right now... I GOT ME SOME HAND-ME-DOWNS! :D I got a long-sleeved white turtle-neck shirt! I can use that!! As soon as I alter it, I'll post a pic, but for now it's under a huge stack of clothes waiting to be organized... I really need to do that XD

Em... You can always buy a V-neck sweatshirt... Just get some green fabric, haha.

Yeah, but I have absolutely zero cash. I'm willing to trash a shirt I didn't pay for rather than get a shirt and pretty much wreck it. LOL. I'm planning to just cover up the turtleneck part with green fabric and just go with it :) I just need to get my butt down to the fabric store. I actually unearthed the shirt, and now it's in my closet waiting to be decked out :D

I might also be making a makeshift Helen Henny costume for my friend since she is probably going to a Halloween dance with me and has a bunch of feathers and doesn't want people to know it's her. She's got a red dress, a feather boa, a feather mask, and a feather hairclip. I just need to coordinate it and get her one of those dopey rubber chicken beaks! That way, I have another robot with me, albiet a poorly put together one. Seriously, the feathers are pink and orange! XD It still works, and she'll be happy that she won't look like a fool dancing her pants off :)

It's great to see another person who makes their own costumes! I've been doing that for a while. I made Michael Jackson, Linda Blair in The Excorcist, and I just finished my Judy Garland costume!

Well, I actually had a few things change! I may not wear the wig (not wearing it tonight since it's the Halloween dance and I'll be dancing...) And my mom actually let me get a sweater and a turtleneck from Goodwill to trash as I please! She also let me get a pair of Vans knockoffs that were white to draw fake saddle-shoes on!! Man, I love my mom at times like this. She like, jumped into the project enthusiastically. :) I'll probably post pics today or tomorrow of how I looked at the dance! :)

Also: My friend decided to drag an old witch costume out of her closet instead of being a chicken :( OH WELL! :D At least I'll look FAB!

Nice! It seems that custom Halloween costumes (or any for that matter!) ALWAYS come out way more awesome than the cheap plastic ones at stores. This costume just backs up my theory.:)

Ha ha ha! That was me in those photos and I did a Texas Longhorn version of Mitzi :) Thanks Damon! He's right though. It was really easy and cheap (as well as a conversation starter.)
