View Full Version : Should the History and Timeline pages be revised?

I was thinking... Would it make sense to merge the History and Timeline pages (since the timeline covers all of the same information in History) and perhaps re-write the history section to include updated information that has been uncovered (or that has happened) since it was initialy written?
I like the idea of including pictures in the document; but right now they're all hyperlinks to the picture files and I think it would make more sense to embed those pictures in the document itself in the appropriate places?
What do you guys think? Or do you like everything as it is now?

If we can unearth more PTT origin years material...

Definitely need updated! It's just a matter of when I'll have time to revise it and make it as inclusive as possible. The bad thing is that, even since that last version was written, we have enough information to probably write a book. It's part of the reason I've tried to make stuff like the character pages and the showtape reviews as informative as possible, so that way when this history is revised, most of that can be left OUT of it. Ha ha.
Otherwise it gets into the "book" realm. ;)

Travis,
LOL! Yeah; I figured you guys had uncovered a whole lot of new information since then.
You could always make it a multiple (separate) page section with a table of contents- maybe with a page covering events leading up to 1977, another covering 1977 to 1984, another covering 1984 to (say) 1986, '86 to '91, etc to make it easier for people to sift through.
That way; you could load each page with images without worrying about having one single massiave page with 100+ images on it.

I'm fairly positive that a dedicated and moderated Rock-afire wiki would fulfill most of these needs while also encouraging regular updates.

I suppose that could work; but personaly I'd prefer it stay in-site instead of being developed as an outside Wiki.

It wouldn't have to be an outside Wiki. In fact there are at least three different Wikis that integrate with vBulletin alone, including the tried and true Mediawiki software.

A book isn't a bad idea. Have you thought about writing one, Travis?

Agreed. Travis, Jenn, Gabe, and Mike could put together one hell of a great book if they combined their knowledge and resources. I think it would probably have to be an eBook because I don't think a physical book would sell enough copies to be profitable, but I'd absolutely buy an eBook.

I would too. (I actually made an ebook of the main "history" essay that's up on the site, just so I could read it on an ereader.)
