Anyone know how many former Discovery Zones were converted to CECs, and of those; how many are still open today?

----------

P.S- Wikipedia says they bought (all?) 500 locations but obviously that didn't mean all of them were converted- I'm sure they closed locations that already had CEC's nearby.

i could be mistaken but i *THINK* they only turned like 7 of them into CEC's & sokld the rest. I know the Redwood City,CA store was a former DZ

Yeah they closed the 2 or 3 we had here since they were all fairly close to CECs already...

Here's a sketch from Parkway that shows how they'd mod the existing DZ's into CEC's at the time. ;)

now when I look at the picture Gabe just posted it leads me to believe that the Sterling Heights Michigan CEC used to be a DZ. good find Gabe!

FuzzyMooChicken, I also deeply miss Discovery Zone.

The irony of my local DZ was that it was only 15 mins. away from my house, whereas the nearest Chuck E. Cheese's was an hour away{as is its replacement, which is in a different part of the same city}.

Their Men In Black LaserTag-type show was a large part of one of my last visits there, and the aformentioned former PTT/CEC closed a year later.

The SkyTubes of modern-day CECs are the most obvious Discovery Zone element that CECE carried over to Chuck E. Cheese's stores, along with their redemption-heavy, no-classic-arcade-games focus.

I think CEC converted a handful of former DZ locations and the rest were closed down!
