Why can't today's commercials be ANYTHING like the ones from the past?? I know companies are always changing, but commercials still need magic too...

Today's commercials really aren't that different. They just don't mention the show at all (which I wish they would).

If you notice though, there is not as much singing, and it's all about the deals now...

In today's economy; parents like a good deal. Remember, that the commercial above is probably from before the merger, and tastes have changed quite a bit since then.

True, true... It would be cool to see a classic style commercial make an appearance every now and then...

Kids today are a lot more sophisticated than they used to be. Everything's about flashy camera angles, bright colors, and "cool" stuff. The low key stuff of the past just wouldn't work with todays kids.

Does anybody here remember that a few years ago, the father of that kid who played "Howie" actually contacted us here on the board asking to get him a copy of that commercial ? His son never saw it after it was shot all those years ago until I sent him them the spot on DVD. His career continued for a little while longer doing cartoon voices until he retired from acting and he's now a showbiz lawyer in the Los Angeles area.
