View Full Version : WHERE IS THIS STAGE LOCATED?

Hello everyone...I know that is an older thread that we chatted that some franchisees still use the 'Rocker' stage...I came across this pic and from looking at the Chuck E face and costume he looks newer or updated...so if this stage is still being used, how does the showtape work? ie: Now (on current showtapes) CEC looks at Munch and Jasper to the right (as well as the rest of the characters) but this pic would indicate him looking to the left (like old "C" stages). Does corp make a show for the few stores that still have this stage?

Wouldn't it just require putting some airlines backwards..? Then again chuck's new outfit came out like Jan 2002 so...who knows

Awesome to see this is still around...

This is no doubt a franchise location somewhere...don't know where....maybe CA?

This is a repainted Rocker stage ( note the loud yellow color!) that has all the original Bots' still in operation. Note the old Balcony era Munch and the original Balcony era Jasper. You can tell them apart from the newer figures at most of the newer MMBB stages as Jasper has his original mask ( doggie face wrinkles). His shirt has been updated though...it's the current cow pattern.

The Chuck Bot' has a newer head and ear cosmetics but his legs and feet are original. His clothing has been changed out to the newer style that became availble in 2002 for the stages. The costume character had this same shirt and cap availible for purchase starting in 1999.

This show runs on a old cyberstar computer updated with a vcr like most current CEC's have....at least those that have the C stages and have not yet been converted to the newer dvd system. I highly doubt this is running off reels as CECE has'nt used reels in almost 2 decades now.

Interesting to see this old show still running! I hope we find out where this stage is!

OMG That HAS to be Rockford IL!

Sweet pic!!! Do you have anymore? I agree, that must be from Rockford, IL.

TreyTX
02-16-2006, 09:27 PM
can't be Rockford, IL as this location is a corp. and would have been transformed to MMB years ago...it's gotta be a franchisee where as corp. was not able to require them to change over. I think someone
on another thread was saying something about a location in Canada that still had the Rocker stage in use.

CEC3066
02-16-2006, 09:33 PM
Well remember Jenn C and Rocker stages are a part of the CEC stage family so just like a 1, 2 or Road stage would be on DVD now so would these. oh and even though it's the Rocker stage did you see what Jasper is playing?

CEC3066
02-16-2006, 09:39 PM
the Canada store is a C stage. Rockford IS indeed a Corporate store WITH a Rocker stage. Franchises have 4 digit store ID's Corporate stores have 3.

here is Rockford's info:

960 CHUCK E. CHEESE'S 3600 E. State St. Rockford IL
this ios the only Rocker stage I know of left in the chain so that has to be that location.

TreyTX
02-16-2006, 09:59 PM
Well, I have just called the store in Rockford and yes it's a corporate store and YES CEC is in the middle of this stage...so I am going to try to get this location soon and post pics of this stage as I am in Chicago.

do you have your video camera handy? I'd love to see some video of their show, but if all you have is a regular camera I'll see if I can get Brian (CEC72) to do the video work.

If it is Rockford, then the painting and outfit change would have had to be done in the last year and a half. When I was there it still looked like the old fashioned porch.

and my mistake that isn'tm Rockford in that photo. The 4 by chuck is a DEAD give away. ALL Rocker stages prominently displayed the stores ID # on their stage.

Very true Danny...and i was thinking of this when i was looking at the photo.

The question is then...who is #4? I do not know of any single-digit stores. Not even the first PTT's had single numbers as a ID.

TreyTX

I think the other number are behind the pole...you just can't see them...

Actually, it might have always been yellow...here's an older pic from a different store:

if there is a # after the 4, then it is sure placed far right of the 4.

i think there might be numbers missing. maybe fell off over the years. note how close the #s are in the other pic above my post.

where did the pic come from?

I thought the purpose in concept unification was to make all the shows as close as possible so they would all match programming wise and give the chain a more uniform look. I wonder why certain stores were allowed to slip through the cracks on this. Also Darryl said something about one place that still had the balcony/shelf set up until 2000 or 2001. After finding out about this I definately think that is a strong possibility.

Shiney Happy Jenn

Only Corporate owned locations had no choice in the matter when it came to CU. They were all changed over to C stages (MMBB).

It was the Franchises that were able to "slip thru the cracks" as you say.....and that is why Franchises rock! The Utah store that was close by CECE in 2001 had all of there original 80'/81 era signage...the REALLY early stuff.... and the building itself was still very much as it was when it first opened. See the photos in the Photo Gallery...although you have probably already seen them. They still used the original Bev Bar layout ( not self serve...but staffed!) and had many original games and rides still operating. Awesome stuff...and incredible that this location was able to stay this way right into modern times!

Corporate forced them to close..no doubt wanting to snuff out the last remaining remnant of the concepts glorious past. This location also had their showroom setup as the early original PTT's did.....no stage, but all the characters mounted in giant picture frames. The Cyberamics were from 82/83' and Classic Helen was still the Guest when the place closed in 01'. What a gem this place was....

Regarding the color scheme of the Rocker stage....the Porch itself was off white with a brown trim in most cases. That yellow paint job is custom, and again, since this must be a franchise, they pretty much can do whatever they want to the stage. It's a little to loud for my tastes though...

And yes, it is true that the "house" #'s often located on the Porch set were indeed usually the actual Store #. It was a clever in-joke and also insured that anyone in the know would realize where a certain stage was photographed. Looking at the pic in question, it looks to me like #4 is it and there are no other numbers there. More then likely since this stage has been redone and repainted the original numbering is long gone. I could be wrong, but that's my opinion on the matter.

MMBBfan327

which Utah location are you referring to Jenn? Where in the photo gallery are the pics?

CEC3066
02-19-2006, 01:45 PM
The Ogden, Utah store closed in the early 90's

there WAS a CEC in Lake Forest,CA That closed in 2001 w/ a balcony show.

one thing that I thought was bizzare I once caught A misprint, They had put on their website:

Fairfield
it then proceeded to give the address of the LAKE FOREST store. and I pointed this out to my boss and I thought this goof went just as far as the website but he actually SAID "No wonder we haven't been getting some of our stuff":rollin

i dont know who is in charge of updating the database, but theyre not doing their job. I noticed missy's store has the wrong address on the website. And the Costa Mesa, CA store is described as "next to blockbuster music" on the phone system. lol! blockbuster music went out of business yearsssssssssss ago!

YoungCaliHottie

i email them and call them all the time. theyre probably sick of me. lol.

plus i do surveys all the time too. not just for bad times tho. i try to do one for every visit. i like complimenting a store when they do well, but the times when things are crap also need to be fixed.

but i only do one like 10% of the time. which they probably like. lol. plus i go to cec more times than id like to admit. :lol

I doubt it. I mean this is probably not any kind of a big secret that corporate doesn't know about.

Maybe not a secret but maybe it's gone unnoticed...remember our tour of Dept 18 Mike? Matt said they weren't sure if there were still Kings out in the field. We know there most likely aren't but, the fact that they were unsure. IDK...:o

Shiney Happy Jenn
02-23-2006, 07:19 PM
True.

Who's to say there is'nt still a King operating somewhere out there at some long forgotten franchise location? Could be...though very unlikely at this point.

This is why the darn few CEC franchises we have left have to be "preserved".....they are the last gap between the great days and the medioce times.

MMBBfan327
02-23-2006, 08:45 PM
If a franchize still has a KING or other Cab setup, do you think the curtains are now gone? :lol :rolleyes

MMBBfan327

Shiney Happy Jenn
02-25-2006, 05:39 PM
PTT never had curtains that operated. That came along much later when the MMBB Stage concept was introduced. Up until that point, no PTT/CEC had curtains of any type...that moved anyway! Most Cab acts had a backdrop curtain, and the Classic Balcony setups had red curtains that hung above and to the side of the characters boxes.

The curtain system was introduced to make the MMBB setup look more like a RAE. I beleive the curtains were even produced by the same company. It was so obvious that the MMBB concept was a total rip off of the RAE. Everything from the stage, characters costumes, and the fact that they even imitate the same layout ( guitar player, drummer, piano player..etc....) makes it more then obvious!

I remember when we had the 1st CheeseVention here. It was at the Danvers CEC and our surprise guest was Aaron Fechter. When he walked into the Showroom after being introduced he took one look at the MMBB 2-Stage and said: " Wait a minute...that's Fatz's keyboard!!" HA ha!! :lol

TreyTX
02-26-2006, 01:25 AM
This is true…the CU was introduced to adapt CEC to Rockafire…porch sets were still being installed right until the CU happened then choice of full or half road stages were introduced.

I FOUND IT! I FOUND IT!! I FOUND IT!!!

I FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT IS.....

dun dun dun...

...store #411 in Simi Valley, CA! The 11th ever store. The stage is STILL THERE TODAY! I took pics and a video with my cell phone that i will post in a little bit! It is a CORPORATE store! And is sadly scheduled for studio c in october :'(

To answer some questions...
-it runs off of a VCR.
-it uses the 2 stage tapes.
-the characters do look the wrong way when talking (ie: chuck looks stage left at helen when talking to jasper, who is located at stage right).
-it uses 2 "community" speakers, one on each side of the stage. and there are two really really old speakers that are completely back and in the back of the stage hanging from the walls. you can hardly see them. they are in a black area of the wall (above the door).
-jasper and helen have recent looking faces.
-helen stands up and looks the same as 1 / 2 stages.

ill post pics/vids soon.

i was so excited when i found out about this store! lol! i felt all accomplished like i solved a big mystery! lol!

YoungCaliHottie
03-26-2006, 11:48 AM
they wouldnt be able to correct the character order easily because jasper has no body frame (his shoulders alone hold his shirt on) and the bottom of his "body" is just foam legs or something similar attached from the rocking chair to the floor. chuck and helen are the only full bodied characters. munch and pascually are only half bodies. all bots are using the old original parts. (except a few cosmetic upgrades). so they couldnt just reposition them.

as far as reversing the air lines, that wouldnt work either. lets say you reversed chuck's air lines. he would look the right way when talking to jasper or munch. but now he would look the wrong way when talking to helen or pascually.

Regarding the Simi Valley, CA CEC location still with a Rocker stage house facade show: Is that the same CEC location originally a CECPTT first opened circa 1979-1980 that had originally a CECPTT Pizza Time Players shelf/balcony show with Munch and Pasqually coming in and out of doors plus Artie Antlers and Beagles side/cabaret shows that former VegaNova SPP/CEC message board posted Moose mentioned in the past and had photos and video footage of this location taken in 1984 that he planned to share with us but never did?

I talked to one of the managers there today, and I was told that they are not sure if they are gonna get Studio C in October or not. That is the plan, but they said that from the looks of it, it doesn't look like it is going to happen. They said that if they did get Studio C it would be cause they are moving to another location. But they don't think it will change anytime soon, but then again, anything is possible.

And I think we all know you've got CA covered ;) Those top notch standards should be a model for the entire company.
