For CEC stores that didn't utilize the Birthday Wave when Cyberstar came into play what show were they given to use? I know Gabe mentioned he heard the "Joy To The World" birthday show on a Cyberstar tape during that period instead of Birthday Extravaganza, does that mean that was the alternate b-day show?

from what I gather, CEC stores used the same BDay show that was used during concept unification which also had the parade of cakses theme....if stores didn't have this then then used "Joy To The World", in Ogden the store had cyberstar but never installed any TVs as Cyperstar was sent out free as part of the entertainment fund but stores has to buy their own TVs...our store was sent the "Joy To The World" with no video labeled on the tape that way CEC would not say "stay tuned for a CEC TV special" although we would get the reg tapes sometimes and just nothing but the audio of the 'TV Special would play and the characters resumed the random movments. Guests seemed to not even notice that you could hear the characters speaking but they weren't moving...also this store never had stage lights just spots that were on all the time that were hard wired into the rest of the showroom lighting...it was very boring.

Wow, this has strolled into something interesting..I HAD always wondered about that..I guess if your store didn't have the fund to complete Cyberstar it was just audio VHS tapes...man Trey, tell me you HAVE some of those tapes from that era and these videoless VHS...:p The one Cyberstar show I have with Joy To The World is the Kids show from '89.

I hope I did not cause confustion, the 'no video' was just states on the white label that right next to the name of the tape...the 'no video' meant that there would be no CEC TV specials or cartoons just the countdowns and the actual shows...you could still connect a TV and have the video play.

Hey do you have a JVC BR7000-UA? I found a couple of showtapes with the audio/bday track flipped around and labeled "HI-FI DLBY"...can you elaborate more on these kinds of tapes? :rolleyes They had to make it all exclusive.

There were also a couple of Cyberstar showtapes back in the early days where they swapped the HIFI and Normal Audio. Someone said it was because they wanted the computer signals in HIFI (or did someone mess up?). But I guess they realized that normal audio was good enough and then they went back to the original way.

Yeah, that's what I meant...the majority of the shows I have, have the signals in the normal audio tracks...but I've come across a few Rock-afire shows with the signals in the Hi-Fi tracks, then I gotta bust out my BR7000 and divide it up right...:p

Not sure if this is even on topic, so forgive me if I'm off base here...
I have a cyberstar video that claims to have no video on it. Can't say I've ever popped it in and watched it though (on my never ending to-do list). But it's listed as such:
CEC LIVE 90 #1 (VIDEO BLACK)
Being that it's a live it may not be anything special, but it's the only tape that I can remember seeing that said there's no video feed on it. Any ideas?

Yeah I've got it too, it's probably about the same thing Trey's talking about...except the Live #1 didn't have video anywhere whether the CEC had TV's or not. It's like The CEC March tape from '92 or '93 when you hear Bday Star after the live...it's just audio and black screen. CEC Live #1 is the first live show after that 10 min one on all the late '80s reels. Personally I prefer the Late '80s Live. :eek

I have it too on my box it says CU LIVE now I'm wondering is it the same show but just labeled differently depending on the store?

Yeah it is...CU was just another way of saying 3-stage...which is how they later ID'd them. CEC was for the C-stage

I might not be right, but it seems in the early days some live shows did not have any video on them just blank screens...but who knows as when stores would receive their tape they were lucky to even use them. I knew the owner of the closed Pt Arthur SBZ store and places a 'live tape' not know what the heck live even meant. It was just sitting in the office. I remember thinking it must be a tape to use if one to the stages were not working...in the case CEC's curtians were closed...and so this store didn't do live shows and was a low volume location...you can see the pics under Port Arthur, TX ShowBiz

I can confirm that many very early "Lives" had no video footage.
The one that springs to mind immediately ( though more recent when compared to the Live Show past history) is the original first versions of "Birthday Star". These all had black screens on the video monitors. This song did'nt get a video companion i believe until the re-issue of the 2nd version in 94'.
The REALLy old Lives had no videos either. Videos were a relatively new concept to CEC until the mid 90's when there was a explosion of footage. By that time, most locations had the new MMBB Stages and video monitors so from that point on everything had a video to go along with the Shows.
