I was in the process of recycling a dubbed videocassette when I found this shot of Chuck E. doing an intro for my TV show from in front of the Union NJ store back in March of 1998.

Gee, I miss that classic red derby and black tux look...it gave Chuck lots of class and style in those days.

Wow, that CEC looks all ghetto...like they didn't even bother to remodel it like the other stores...:lol

It kinda looks like it's in the middle of a desert if you look in the background...lol

Regarding the looks of the place and its surroundings, you have to know that this building is a former twin-screen (built years before multiplexes became popular) movie theater that got converted into PTT/CEC in 1984, which explains why the place is unusually large inside. It is also a completely standalone structure, with a small lawn out in front (where Chuck is standing in the picture), its own parking lot to the left and behind and alleyway on the right.

Despite being located in suburban Union NJ, the location did also draw its share of ghetto customers from the nearby cities of Newark & Hillside, and even the Middle Eastern ethnic crowd all the way from Paterson & Passaic (owing to the advertising directed there by the Jordanian managers in the franchise days during the 90's).

That store sign had since been replaced with the one of Chuck E. in the red cap and yellow shirt. It originally was PTT style. I haven't been there since early last year when the store interior was renovated to Phase 4 so I don't know if the sign had been changed again after that.
