Hello all,
We just bought an Uncle Klunk and was wondering if anyone had one of those diagnostic / movement lists.
I have the "big" RAE list - but could use a list of the Klunk movements.
Thanks,
Chris and Beth

Where on earth did you find THAT?!
Travis lists this as a diagnostics tape: http://showbizpizza.com/videos/spp/promo/spp_diag_83klunk.html

Hey Beth, can you send me the files for the main list? I seem to have misplaced them. (And they don't seem to be in the blue manual)

Sweet Sassy Molassy!
Considering that I live one state away from Beth, It's been my intent travel to York, PA{ a few hours away from where I live} someday to see her Rockafire setup{along with Damon's, but Pennsylvania is certainly closer than Mississippi is to me}.
However, hearing that Uncle Klunk is now "joining the ranks" gives me even more reason to plan on making a visit.
I've been to York in the past, but not recently{the closest I've came is to Hershey back in the spring of '09}.
My question for Beth is this:I'm aware that your setup is seasonal{based on what I've read on this forum}, but what are your plans for Klunk?
Based on your diagnostic questions, you definitely plan on using him in some capacity{with/without the RAE, inside/outside}.
I'd love to not only have the opportunity to see the RAE in person{yours might be my first, depending on when I'm in the Southern U.S again/when my first CheeseVention will be}, but to see Uncle Klunk would be a dream come true.
Klunk's "cornball" nature{i.e.- his Carrot Top/Gallagher-esque stage persona, the loud suit and hair}and the sophistication of his movements make him my favorite character within the SPP/PTT fandom.

We have no idea for sure what we are doing with Klunk yet -
At this point, we are trying to make the robots we have a little more safe from the enviroment ,,, Rolfe didn't do so well outside all winter... :(
In the mean time - we'd love visits of you are ever going to be in the area... just let us know ahead of time so we can make sure the show is working and we don't have other plans!

Aww, that stinks. What, that you notice, is wrong? I had wanted to point out that 2nd gen Mitzi was rusting up.

Have you ever seen it in person?

No, which is why I had wanted to point it out, but since I only have seen the high definition pictures on the website from the tour and had not actually seen the bots for myself, I kept my mouth shut. But since something has gone wrong, I had wanted to confirm my suspicions on whether it was rust or not.
But since you’re wondering how in the world I could come up with the audacious conclusion that 2nd generation Mitzi was rusting up without actually being in front of the bot, here is my defense:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkgivnsr9FU
2nd gen Mitzi at the time of the 1983 Save the Colander Telethon. The legs are a little darker than the rest of the body, but the wild movements the bot makes during the test prove that it’s not in a rusted condition. Plus in a few shots the arm dips in just the right angle that you can see a reflection of the arm in the leg. Since rust causes a surface to lose its reflecting quality, we can safely say that there is no rust there.

As the address says, this is the picture from the CEI tour in 2006. This 2nd gen Mitzi has got hair, hands, and tubing covering up the arms. Also the legs seem to have a reddish brown coloring to them, but not all over them. In fact, near the joints the reddish brown coloring is not there, it’s more of a silver color. The logical assumption would be that it’s rust on this metal. But how did it rust? Since rust is the result of iron oxidizing there would have to be a source of water for the chemical reaction to occur. Most common way water can indirectly get around is humidity. After personally being in Florida, and quite a few times in the Orlando area, I can guarantee you that it gets quite humid there. Not as humid as melting Pennsylvania snow rising into the inside of a dark colored tarp, but I digress. And from personal accounts from people who have been to CEI, it’s pretty hot in the warehouse/factory. Even Aaron in the movie The Rock-afire Explosion can be quoted saying that it gets pretty hot in CEI. So we’ve got water from the humidity and time (1983 – 2006), but there’s one critical component missing in this rust equation, iron. Yorkmiss said that the characters are made out of aluminum. http://www.showbizpizzaforum.com/showthread.php?4293-There-s-a-new-show-in-town...&p=50140#post50140
Which there are three explanations I can think of how there could be rust on a character that shouldn’t have iron in them. 1. The prototype characters were made of different materials than final ones. 2. The aluminum wasn’t a pure aluminum but an alloy which contains iron. 3. Yorkmiss is wrong in saying that the materials listed were the only materials inside a character.
So, anyway, that’s the logical conclusion I drew up that 2nd gen Mitzi is rusting up without actually seeing the bot for myself. If it could happen to 2nd gen Mitzi, why not other characters. But yorkmiss owns a character (for years, even) and I don’t so I didn’t try to tell yorkmiss that I thought keeping the character outside could be dangerous for it. But now I know that something’s wrong, yet I don’t know what that something is. Since I’ve concluded that characters can rust, and it was outside with wet snow, I offered the possibility that problem was rust as well as trying to find out what the problem was.

I've seen it in person. It may be dirty but it is certainly not rusting. Some of the metal parts may have oxidized over the years but to say that its sitting there rusting up isn't accurate. The 2 things that really have deteriorated on everything at CEI are the seals in the cylinders and some of the latex masks. Mitzi's latex mask is still good on this character though.

The idea of putting the show outside is really cool, but I'm just wondering... why not put them inside, where they'll be safe?

If the I-presume-lady doesn't have the space inside, then that's where she puts the robots. I'm sorry your Rolfe got torn up in the weather! Maybe if you wrapped him up in a raincoat or a tarp he'd hold out a little better.

Is this the show that I saw a video on it (The video was one where the curtains kept opening & closing) - Believe it was Mitzi's first time to intro a show(?).
Just curious...

One word - SPACE! I've have a show and various robots for more than a decade now - and I STILL can't grasp just how big these robots are when they are inside a house. Yes, you could squeeze everything together into a small unattractive pile and get it to work - and maybe still have 3 feet to stand in front of it.... but you'd better have a huge house if you ever wanted to have a full size RAE installed properly.

That's exactly what I went through and why I'm downsizing my own show now. Without the proper space the show doesn't look good forced into a space smaller than it was meant for. My conclusion is it is better to have one stage done well the way it was intended to be set up than to have multiple stages that are crammed into a tiny space and comprimise the presentation.
