View Full Version : CEC GIVES ONLY 4 TICKETS NO MATTER WHAT THE SCORE IS?

So I found this video on YouTube that states that CEC only gives 4 tickets no matter what the score is...is this true? Way back in the day at CEC you were given tickets for the high score you received from playing skill games (Wack a-mole and Skeeball) now you get tickets for the light that you 'hit' when you press a button, etc...
It sounds like NJ has mandated CEC to change their ticket prize.
Something I remember...when CEC first entered NJ as corp locations (not sure about the franchised CEC game mix) they had stores that were called 'next generation' stores...at the time I thought they were trying to copy DZ but you paid an admission when you entered the place were kid check was and from there all of the games were free...there were not tokens given as you would press a button on the games to operate them and no tickets given...everyone was was given a valture for a prize (only a handful of prizes were aval and you could purchase anything) upon leaving...you would order your pizza in the traditional matter and not sure how CEC promoted themselves as they could not promote free tokens with purchase...this might be one of the reasons why it came around...now they give everyone tickets when you start a game.

That is in New Jersey and it is based on the law? Wow.
I'm glad its not like that in Texas. Tickets dispensed is based on how well you do on the game. There is also a minimum number of tickets you receive just for putting in a token (usually 1). Think about all the other places that operate on the same principle - Dave and Buster's, Jillian's, Arcades, etc.
In Texas I thought it is not considered gambling because you don't get cash for it. It is ok to get tickets and get prizes, and they are for "entertainment use" only.
The machines you talk about are still in various restaurants and establishments here in Texas.

hmmmm, i never heard of that "next generation" thing youre taking about. yea, since you get tickets, its not gambling.
but i have heard about stores that dont allow rubble bubble because coin pushes are illegal in their state. I think that actually happened in Greensburg when they opened....it was illegal in the county. But obviously not in PA since Bridgeville has it...

That's wild stuff... that dude who put that video together had a pretty good point though - why should the prizes stay the same amount of tickets if the kid is destined to only get 4 per game.
Now granted I haven't played in CEC arcades that much, but as far as I can recall, 4 tickets out here was on the lower end of what an average game dispenses. :(
Strange.

Certain Games in my area are limited to 4 tickets. I know most of the cec's in my area that have cyclone are limited to 4 tickets. they have the bonus maxed out at 200 or 250 i believe. The cyclone game used to have up to 10 i believe... but have recently changed to the 4...

as far as I know techs can change the ticket output at their leisure, say for example if their ticket per token is high they can compensate with games that are giving out more than "needed". it might just be penny pinching

So does that mean in most cases you will get between 1 and 4 tickets? As opposed to ALWAYS getting 4 tickets regardless of how well you do?

the games all vary. like chuck e duckie for example, you get a ticket for every 2 ducks. most of the games that have bonuses (tower of power, wheel of fortune, cyclone) the most on the game is 4 if you dont get the bonus. but those games also have the most ticket per token. my wheel of fortune is like 8.
most games are purely based on skill. as in, i could go to cec and walk out of there with SOOOOO many tix cause i know how to beat all the games....cept flaming finger!!!>:

New Jersey is a weird state, wht can I tell you? :lol
Seriously though, we have one store that doesn't even dispense tickets.
In one town, the mayor considers it 'gambling' therefore, all merch must be purchased.

Some CEC locations that have ticket games now don't care about progressive ticket jackpot wins for ticket games?

That's correct... it's been that was in NJ stores for quite some time now. The standard is 3.1-3.3 tickets per token, and to achieve that they have gone up to 4 tickets per game. This guy is taking it a little far. CEC's hands are tied due to the law. I don't think gambling is illegal, but rather closely regulated... I think it has something to do with Atlantic City. The tickets are actually a little easier to get according to the law of averages.

Yes, the progressive jackpots are still active here.
Also, I did some checking on our games.
The skeeballs still give up to 20 tickets.
Quite a few games will give you 10 or 25 tickets depending on how well you do or landing on a certain spot.
The game the guy was talking about in the video (Pop-a-tac-toe or one similar) gives 25 or more tickets if you get the corners.
Rubble Bubble (the one with the hands that push the tokens down) has slots for 20 or 40 tickets if your token lands in the hole.
There are just a few games that do have a max that is set at 6 tickets because it is so easy to win.

not that I have a problem with gambling...it can be fun...just like drinking...but anything in access that you can not control is a problem...that being said CEC does have gambling games...the kids put a token in on some games and on most games get tickets based on there the token 'hit' unlike skeeball, which is a skill game and you should get rewarded on your performance...kids only play the games for the tickets to get the prizes...it is surprising that they have gotten away with their newer games...first time I saw the ICE Cyclone I couldn't believe my eyes (unlike Hungry Hippos)...it still surprises me people don't see it, though some states make casinos illegal.

I think there are many forms of "gambling". The most obvious ones are when you get money directly back for doing something. Subtle forms are getting tickets/prizes/other compensation - but then you can see that in so many things. You pay to compete in a sport and you are rewarded for your 'placement' - is that gambling? Or is gambling which its just luck of the draw with no skill involved? Well, that can't be true because you can always have "skill" involved in something. Cyclone game - skill to stop the light on the highest target. When is it gambling? And when is it not?
We have a Texas lottery - that's obviously gambling because there's no skill involved?
Except for Rubble Bubble, I can't think of any CEC games that don't require some kind of skill to influence the number of tickets you receive.
