So what exactly is going on in the picture? Is that Mitzi tied up in the background?

My guess is yes that's probably Mitzi in the background.

Yeah that's what she's doing. She did it in response to the other thread I started. My comment would be to recolor her more like Mitzi by putting her in a white/green outfit with an M on her chest so everyone can identify her immediately.

Thank you Thank you Thank you everyone. No it's not very good because I am a perfectionest and to me it has a lot of flaws. lol. I think that is also because it took me 5 hours to do it and stareing at a picture for that lenght of time will do that to you. :s I didn't do it to get a reponse (even though you guys are waaaaaaaay to kind). I did it to share my artwork and I would like to do more and learn more Photoshop now that I have a full verison.

I was and my sketch from this is in that thread. The reason Mitzi is in that colour outfit is because Helen and her switched outfits so Helen is in Mitzi's redesigned green cheerleader outfit and Mitzi is in Helen ugly purple and black dress lol! Chuck E. is in a lab coat (poorly displayed in that pic) and helps Helen kidnap Mitzi and tie her up in Chuck's lab and he uses the machine in the background to switch looks... kinda an off wall idea from what you where getting at but that's the way I pictured your idea. Hope you don't mind. :helen:

I plan to do more Helen because I think she is fun to draw but I wouldn't mind sketching other ideas that people throw at me. ;)

No that's great! I understand now. It's a great first draft. It may need multiple panels with some set up. My one comment though is you might have her in the red saloon dress. My thought really is she's old lady Helen and she gets this new Mitzi look and transforms from Broadway Helen. Basically "youthening" herself. Without making it risque, you might have Mitzi in her undergarments instead of switching cloths with her. (Why would they take her clothes, put Helen's on and then tie her up?) but I'm over thinking it. I really do like it and would love to see some further revisions to it.

I am not really that familar with Rock-a-fire or Mitzi or the older Helen so a lot of it is made-up or from my limited knowlege or the subject. The reason that I had them switch clothing was because I wanted Mitzi to be the 'ugly' one and Helen to become the 'pretty' one. (for every action there is a reaction). I will be happy to work with you to make it more like your idea if you like :) it was just me messing around and having some good old fun.

That's cool. Go with what you know and your own interpretation. It's a good drawing.

Just remember when you're first starting out with digital art, it's going to take longer to do for several reasons. Your first outing will not be your best work ever. Nobody's is. Especially if you aren't drawing with a tablet. Using a mouse is a very intimidating task in and of itself. Don't give up on digital works completely. With practice, it'll be as good as the traditional pencil/pen and paper.

Advice I'd recommend you take is that you shouldn't completely stop using one method or the other. When I first got my tablet, I got used to it and how it draws and couldn't draw the traditional way for a couple days after that. Using the mouse can possibly produce similar issues if used too much. :)

Well, one trying to pick a new hobby to entertain myself and to pass the time. I also would like to learn so open new doors with my artwork. I have looked into a tablet but until I graduate college I don't think I could afford one. :( even if I had the tablet I wouldnt stop drawing on paper. I doodle on EVERYTHING! There is a joke at work because I use the expired mocha syrup to draw on the sinks before I wash the containers. I work in all kinds of mediums. ;)

Thank you!

Tablets by WACOM are quite affordable! A lot of people are surprised by this fact. The thousand+ dollar ones are super fancy screen-like things, and not necessarily for beginners. I got a Bamboo Fun for only $199. It came with Corel Painter AND Photoshop Elements. A GREAT deal considering Photoshop is hundreds by itself. There are also cheaper ones than that. They start @ $99. :)

Also, one suggestion if this is photoshop. Try drawing things in layers as you add details and save the drawing as a psd so you can alter it and add to it later. You can save various versions as jpg as you go after you flatten it. By saving it as a psd file you can continue to alter and tweak the picture.

HAHAHAHA I don't remember. :s I was playing around and pushing so many buttons I don't remember what did what and how I did some things. I am thinking I am going to mess with photos for a while before doing art again. Just until I get a hung of what some of the simipler things do what function.

Oh, and Thanks. :D I am always up for tips to make my life easier. grr. :)

There is a great series for Adobe software called "Classroom in a book" that teaches you the ins and outs of each of their programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, Go Live, etc). It's a worthwhile investment.

Hey, I just wanted to throw this in here.

This is a step-by-step tutorial that explains how I do digital art on Photoshop. Very simple to learn! :3

But, anyway, not bad for your first try! Keep drawing! :D

You know, I think it'd be cool for us to have a general art discussion thread here on the fan forum...share tips and tricks and ideas, etc.
What do you guys think?

Unrelated, but. YOUR ICON. I LOVE it.

On a more related note, YES! I think that's a fantastic idea!

Indeed a splendid idea. I mean, I'm sure we've all got questions on how to shade this, how to fix that... I can see it really having a potential to go on for many, many pages at a reasonable pace.
