I know, hard to even imagine that topic at CEC. But as you know, they have been bringing in games with guns and a bit more violence than before. We have received a couple of complaints from guests about games with guns (they don't want them there). Which is actually funny, because one of the complainer's kids was showing another kid how to play the game. One of the games is Jonny Nero Action Hero which is an adult game. The other possible candidate is Zoofari, which is a kid game

Anyway, are you guys receiving complaints about those kind of games at your locations?

Opinions? Comments?

I haven't received any complaints at all with our "shoot 'em ups", as I like to call them.
"Action hero" is right up front across from the merch counter.
"Extreme Hunting" gets 800+ plays per week
"Metal Slug" doesn't get many plays, but is violent enough.
"Zoofari" is extremely tame; you're shooting peanuts at animals trying to feed them--no violence at all.

Now Mortal Combat that's a different story. Those games No slugs Back referred to are cool and yet they have some violence in them they are still cec appropriate. :D :D

We actually had Mortal Kombat in the Union NJ store for years with no appearant complaints. Of course back then the store was a franchise so we got away with doing things a little differently (like having Chuck E. around almost all the time) from most corporate stores.

Were 1980's-1990's arcade games violent, especially Killer Instinct and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Or even 1980's-1990's laser disc arcade games like Dragon's Lair and Mad Dog McGree (If CEC locations ever featured in the early 1990's American Laser Games arcade laser disc games like MDM)?

I think they could get away with more then than they can now. But you're right... What about something like Dragon's Lair? Cruelty to dragons?

yes indeed, cruelty to dragons is a very serious issue...you wouldnt want a lawsuit now, would you?!?

Heee hee...this reminds me of a couple of stories from Ol' Danvers during my time there......

We used to have two games in our GR...one was called "Moto Frenzy" and was produced by Atari. This was a common game that was basically a full size dirt bike mock up you could ride on while watching a video screen of the race course. You would race down the "track" on a timer and the bike your were physically on would react to certain cues on the screen...such as when you would run over a "rock", you felt it!

Tame i know...not violent i know...but let me finish!

The other game we had was called "Off Road Challange" and was a fave of mine. Think of a pre- Artic Thunder setup, but without the blowing air or high tech graphics, and with bigfoot off road vehicles instead of snowmobiles! Anyway, this was just your typical racing game really.....nothing to graphic and violent here.

Not yet anyway....

It did'nt take long for the Tech i knew there at the time to show me otherwise!

Both games had a option menu like many games do, where you can up or lower the volume, brighten the screen, make it more diffcult or easier to play, etc. Well, these games also had a "Gore" button...and a "Babe" button!!

Switch on the "Gore" button on "Off Road Challange" and suddenly as you drive along during game play you get to RUN OVER animals as you charge along! I'm talking road runners, coyotes, and birds...all in BLOOD SPLATTERING glory. The sounds.....( shivers). Yeah...pretty nasty. He showed me this option one day and he left it on to see how long it would take anyone to notice the change!! Even the Regional Tech did'nt notice!! Gah!!

Now "Moto Frenzy" on the other hand did'nt have a gore option...but it DID have the famous "Babe" option! You read right people.....you could have BIKINI CLAD young Ladies flag wave you at the start and finish of the race!!

Outrageous i know for a "kiddie place" but usually these options were turned off at most CEC's ( for obvious reasons...lol!).

So the "Babe" switch would activate the option of have this chick saunter out and wave the start flag dressed ( or barely dressed is more like it) while breathlessly pouting and cooing: "Reeeadddyy....Seeetttttt......GO!" It was flipping LAUGHABLE! A similar thing happened at the end of the race.

Both of these games were junked when the "New 4 You' upgrade came through town...but man, those two games were classics!!

That Moto Frenzy kinda sounds like Cruisin' USA. Our local CEC still has that. They're "barley dressed" women in that, too.

Thanks for reminding me MMBBFan....

I was actually thinking more about those games this morning at breakfast ( don't know why really!) and was faintly remembering that Off Road also had the "Babe" option. Now i know for sure!

Yes, i remember that one. The Ladies would greet you at the start and finish of the race similar to Moto Frenzy.

Yeah, Off Road Challange is a lot like Crusin' USA except the graphics are'nt as nice. Off Road was like a step down in that department, but still a fun racing style game to play.

If anyone still has these games in your store, maybe some night ( or morning before opening) you can convince your Tech to show these options to you! It is worth seeing them, even if for only once.

I still laugh myself silly whenever i think of those ridiculous opening options for Moto Frenzy...

"Reeaadddy....Seeeettttt....GO!"
