It's weird - I was just thinking the other day about how I vaguely remember hearing about CEC video game a while back but being under the impression it was only for in-store use, for some reason...but I honestly can't remember where/who I heard it from...could have been someone on this forum or one of my contacts in the gaming industry. No clue.

Anyways, interesting to see that I wasn't just imagining it. I too am curious about whether or not the rest of the band will be playable - hopefully we don't just get some generic kid characters or something instead.

A quick Google search tells us they were the developers behind the smash hit SUDOKU MANIA!!! for the Nintendo DS

Assuming this becomes reality, then it's very exciting news. Has anyone checked the ERSB (or whatever it's called) ratings? Usually prospective games are verified by the rating they get - because they have to apply for them months in advance. I know that's how most new Wiiware games and retro stuff for the virtual console is sniffed out. :)

This is actually not just exciting, but a rather sizeable new development for us here.
For awhile we wondered *if* CEC corporate was ever going to release anything cool. Now we not only have a CEC best of dvd coming out, but a video game?

Just two questions of course:
1. Will this be merely sold in CEC stores like the Burger King game was exclusively sold at Burger King, or will it be released elsewhere? Im assuming given that Gamefly has it released, it will NOT simply be a downloadable wii ware title but a physical disc release

2. As everyone is asking, *what* characters will there be? Simply Chuck, Helen, Munch, Jasper and Pasqually? Perhaps a few generic kids thrown in?
Someone once posted on here that CEC corporate *still* owns the rights to all the Pizza Time Theatre era characters. Could we possibly see The King or Warblettes?
In the 1999 Muppet racer game for playstation, a ton of obscure Muppets long forgotten had cameos, even Fraggle Rock. We know that CEC acknowledged PTT era characters as late as the early 90's with the parody posters, which some restaurants kept until the 2000's. However not including RAE stage retrofit mini characters(building, munch jr, etc), Studio C bird, or the newer puppet characters on CEC TV...theres been NO new characters introduced in the CEC canon since the 1980's.
Maybe they'll create some new ones exclusively for the game?

Either way this is a very exciting development...it's just they'll be getting even MORE
cool points in my book if they have appearences or cameos by long forgotten characters:)

Being an avid gamer, I can tell you that:

a. Kart racing games have already been milked for all they're worth, and

b. Nothing good ever comes from taking a license and slapping it's characters onto a video game


Just think of every video game based on a movie or tv show. They're all terrible. Also, someone mentioned that their games sell for cheap. 94% of console games (especially Wii) that sell for less than the usual MSRP of $50 suck and have little to know replay value.

This game will probably entertain kids for a while, though. And when I say "a while" I mean a week or two.

Cel-shading, I imagine. It seems to be the industry standard for taking something that's normally 2D and making it 3D.

Since when do kart games have cut scenes worth playing for? Even Mario Kart Wii's end scenes aren't worth winning a tournament for. It's just the characters riding around on their karts and the top three waving at the crowd. WOW.

Now once in a while a halfway alright game comes along, like Astro Boy (7.0 rating I believe) and then all the rest of the games get a score in the range of 3-6. Some don't even get rated at all. Most end up with a four or five, five and a half. Not only that, but they always have poor production values and just slap it together. I'm expecting sloppy controls, shoddy AI at best, and little to no track variety, not to mention annoying frame rate inconsistency. Ouch, the game's dead in the water before it can come up for air........

Oh, quite the gamer. I'm not casual, but not hardcore either. I'm in the middle. I'm terrible about playing games. If Nintendo Power rates it a seven, I won't buy it. I actually am a sucker for kart racers. I *love* the one that started it all: Mario Kart and *all* it's followups(Martio Kart 64, GBA, Game Cube, Wii and DS) as well as Nick Toons Nitro Racing(featuring Invader Zim!)

Can we expect much from a CEC kart racer? Maybe not. But I always leave room to be pleasantly surprised. Let's be honest, very few of us ever imagined there'd be a CEC video game. And the play mechanics to me could be as eye rolling as the 1958 video game "Tennis For 2" as long as old PTT era characters made an appearance:)

The DS version seems kind of cool, least for the 1986 Super Spring spoof and rockband-esque and Galaga spoof thing. But one thing that confuses me...is the CEC Kart game still coming out? Why hasn't there been any screenshots or footage of it, or even any entry listing at the UFO developer site?
