:cecwink: I was thinking to myself just now….. can you imagine if Chuck E. still had a tail now a days? Kids are so rough with Chuck E. I wonder how long it would take to get that tail pulled off?? :cecwink:

kids were rough back in the day, too!
I remember poor chuck getting his tail yanked back in 1982
(not by me, of course)

I think that is one of the many reasons it was removed. Chuck either had to hold it in one of his hands, have an assistant hold it or sometimes I saw it ziptied to his side. I witnessed many a kid yank on it back in the day too.

I think Chuck having to give up his tail is one reason why he now wears pants all the time too.
I remember years ago a story that my Chuck E predecessor at Union NJ once told me. He said one day a little girl walked up him when he was Chuck and asked what happened to his tail. So Chuck made this "chopping" motion with his hands, to which the girl responded,
"Did (Lorena) Bobbitt do it?"
Chuck E then practically broke out laughing so hard that he had to run to the kitchen and take his head off so no other kids would see him cracking up so much.

That's hillarious, but I have a hard time believing that a little girl would have known who Lorena Bobbitt was and what she did.

Yeah, tis' true - the tail was removed as it was becoming a issue with the walkarounds.
Also it has to be said that Corporate was 're-inventing' Chuck E's image in the mid 90s to a more Mouse-like characters. Ditching the tail was a step in that direction.

One of these days I'll have to invent some kind of mascot tail that's un-yankable. Or that at least won't hurt/get damaged if someone yanks it.
