Anyone else here a really big fan of The Banana Splits from the late 60s? I think it ended way too soon; it had a lot more potential...

Count me in, as I'm also a fan for numerous reasons.
1.The costumes were designed by Sid & Marty Krofft, and H.R. Pufnstuf both went to series based on the Splits' success and debuted in a Splits-hoasted special.
2.Richard Donner{The Goonies, Scrooged, the Lethal Weapon series} directed all of the first season's live-action segments.
3.The live-action was influenced by Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, one of the greatest sketch-comedies series ever.
4.Secret Squirrel and Atom Ant were some of the animated shorts shown.
5. Four Words: Sour Grapes messenger girls. Enough said.
6.Without their campy, trippy "animals-playing-in-a-band" goodness maybe the Rockafire would've never came to be!

I like the Banana Splits and also a lot of the Krofft stuff, particularly the Bugaloos. If you watch Pufnstuf the backgrounds are eerily similiar to the Rock-afire stage. If you ever catch an episode note the flat 2 dimensional painted trees in the forest. That stuff was all obviously an influence.

The Banana Splits have been enjoying somewhat of a modest revival this past year, not only with their show being rerun on the Boomerang channel but also newer music videos online through their website Banana Splits.com (http://bananasplits.com) and YouTube.

That was at Midwest FurFest back in 2000. The hotel where the convention took place was across the street from the Arlington Heights IL CEC.

As a matter of fact, this year I was invited back to the convention as a returning Guest of Honor, which took place just a month ago.

In the 1970's when I lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland I would see the Banana Splits every weekday afternoon on a Washington, D.C. independent (pre FOX/CW stations) station.

Wow, congrats on meeting Fleegle{I'm more of a Snorky or Bingo guy myself}!
I love all the various fan conventions out there, as you can find one to attend no matter what your hobby is{I'm hoping to eventually attend a CheeseVention, we'll see what happens}.
One of the reasons as to why I enjoy the Banana Splits so much is because I've always been fascinated with costumed characters{Chuck E. no doubt played a major part in this, not to mention Big Bird and Snuffy}. Being a PTT/CEC fan has always been such a no-brainer for me. Its combination of three of my favorite interests{video games, animatronics, and costumed characters} couldn't{and can't} be beat!

I liked Snorky personally. I remember I was pretty little watching them in reruns (like 3 or 4). One of the Sour Grape girls squished him flat and he popped up and got all mad. It really scared me and I had nightmares and wouldn't watch them for years after that.
