Yup, they've had the final straw--the police have been called to 2701 S. Chase Ave. more than 16 times in 2 months. They want to close the store, but first they're taking the liquor licsense away from them. There was a story about 2 teens fighting to play a basketball game in the paper on friday, which is leading the mayor's desecion to close Chase for good. The teens were reported throwing metal napkin holders and pizza pans at each other and surrounding guests. As much as I love Chase, it probably would be good for the public's health and whatnot. Chase was one of Wisconsin's very first PTT's opening sometime in the VERY early '80s. Nothing so far, but we'll see.

I dont think a mayor has the authority to close a private business. They can fine them, take their liquor license, etc. but I dont believe anyone has the authority to shut a business down just because of problems. If they are in violation of any laws, that is differnt. The health dept. could shut them down if they fail a health inspection and do not pass in a certain period of time (usually 30 days). The building could be shut down for fire hazards or other serious saftey violations after warnings. If illegal acts were taking place such as drugs or prostitution that would be grounds. Just having lots of fights and having to have the police out there a lot should not give the city the right to make CEC close its doors though.

Regarding Capt.'s post, they actually want it to close, but I think I might have messed up saying they are going to close it.
