Chuck E. Cheese’s Cited After Child Injured
NAPERVILLE, Ill. The city of Naperville will go to court against the owners of a theme restaurant where a child was injured Monday by allegedly hazardous floor conditions.
Citations for allowing dangerous excavation work and illegal dumping were issued to CEC Entertainment Inc. and the contractor doing remodeling work inside the Naperville Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant, said Dick Dublinski, development services team leader of the city's Transportation, Engineering and Development business group.
A child suffered minor injuries just before 6:30 p.m. Monday after apparently tripping and falling over a sheet of plywood on the floor of the restaurant, at 1154 E. Ogden Ave.
Assistant Naperville Fire Department Chief Mike Zywanski said paramedics and police were called to the restaurant Monday by the child's mother. Zywanski, citing federal privacy laws, would not identify the child by name, age or gender.
Firefighters and police found a number of what Zywanski characterized as plywood-covered "trenches" in the floor. The holes apparently were dug to accommodate the wiring for new electronic games in the entertainment area.
A city building inspector ordered the restaurant closed Monday night following the incident. It was allowed to reopen Tuesday morning.
Chuck E. Cheese's features carnivallike games and other amusements primarily aimed at preteens. CEC Entertainment, its parent company, is located in Irving, Texas.
CEC officials will answer the city's complaints in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton. An initial court date had not been set as of Wednesday.
