CEC's Greatest Weapon: The Cheese Aroma

Today I was briefly at my local CEC, and as soon as I opened the door...BAM! The overpowering delectably strong aroma of that unmistakable CEC smell hit me. And in that instant, as it always does, it truly transports you back to your favorite magical times of going to CEC as a kid.

For me, it brings me back to the magic of Pizza Time Theater/80's CEC as well as Showbiz Pizza Place. And Im glad the exact same smell greets you at the door of most the CEC's Ive been to even today.

I'd have to say the classic aroma isn't just a great reminder of the magic of yesteryear(smell induced memories for the win!), but one of the top things I remembered and loved about classic CEC or Showbiz.
CEC might have changed quite a bit over the years, but I'm happy that aroma is still ever present.

Anyone else here taken back to strong childhood memories of yesteryear and when CEC was glorious by the smell?

Wow, and I thought I was the only one! I loved that smell as a kid. I was glad when I went back to CEC last year that exact smell was still there, even if they did change the pizza's ingredients slightly and the place's original decor had been destroyed a la Phase Four remodel (which, IMO, it didn't need). When I inhaled that smell, it definitely took me back. Like you said, it reminded me of yesteryear and the magic it produced. The magical sense of the 3-Stage...and it's presence. Oddly enough, I only walked up close to it once to get a photo or to even look at it working.

The aroma's at our store too, just like it has always been since our store opened in 1991.
