I grew up with his music. I still can't believe it. Wow. :(
Anyways, I can't believe it was a heart attack that did it. I mean, I kind of expected it to be the Skin Cancer he was apparently diagnosed with? And I sure as heck didn't expect it so damn soon. :ohwell:

For those unfamillar with Jackson's King Kat Performances...

Unless WB has a copyright on it, maybe the tour can still go on but now called the "that's all folks" tour...
(What, too soon???)

I think it's crazy that we had two cultural icons drop dead in one day. Him and Farrah Fawcett! Crazy stuff.

I did not expect it. (Partly because I heard of it shortly after my brother's graduation...)
Now, I don't mean to sound like a cynical jerk or something, but I think it's totally overblown a la Anna Nicole Smith. The media's treating it like the Vice President died or something. Which means it'll last for THREE. CURSED. MONTHS. (In case it wasn't clear before, I hate it when the media can't shut up about one topic.)

Yeah still pretty shocking news, didn't know he was THAT sick, but... hey as I know first hand, sometimes things happen very fast.
Sympathies go out to his family.

Sorry Michael Jackson lost his life to cardiac arrest even when he was making plans for his 2009-2010 comeback tour. I know he had his career slump since 1993-1994.
Michael Jackson even visited CEI once circa 1983-1984!
And the tragic death of Michael Jackson is on the same day actress Farrah Fawcett Majors (best known for her role as Jill in the first season of Charlie's Angels) passed away after a battle with cancer.

Oh man, I tuned into the news shortly after he was hospitalized. I was just telling my mom that he was in a coma and there was no way to tell if he'd survive or not, when I heard 'It is now confirmed that Michael has passed away. Michael Jackson is dead." I couldn't help but cry. I loved that man, despite all the drama that followed him. I was just listening to my MJ records last night. It's just a huge shock that he's gone...
R.I.P Michael, I hope you're in a happier place.

I'm actually really bummed over this. People can argue me all they want but this is as close to losing Elvis as my generation will probably ever see. I still think that all the drama that surrounded his life in recent years was probably overblown or exaggerated.
Totally crappy news to me. I'm not the biggest MJ fan in the world but I still would have kicked my own grandma out of the way for a chance to meet the man.

Same as Travis, I am devastated. I loved Michael and his expression of art! I know what showtapes I am playing this weekend :)
Much love to him and his family and may my prayers be with them.

To say the least, the man will be missed by millions. He made fantastic music, and I doubt anyone will surpass his musical achievements. He'll live on forever as the legendary King of Pop.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson.

And this summer he was getting ready to start his musical career back up.
I don't support the bodyhacking but he was a brilliant musician.
RIP- King of Pop.

It's astonishing what a massive event MJ's passing has been. This literally has to be the biggest thing to happen in the last 8 years as far as worldwide impact...for several days I havent hardly seen anything *but* MJ coverage on the news channels. In fact, according to many news reports Michael Jackson's passing *literally* brought the internet to a crash almost, with many major sites(google, aol, wikipedia, etc) experiencing an insane amount of traffic.
I remember being obsessed with Michael Jackson in the early to mid and even later 80's. I have fond memories of roller skating to all his hits, and to this day Billie Jean still gives me goosebumps. Sadly, I have to say to me and many others Michael Jackson died in the late 1980's. Moonwalker to me was one of his last best things.
I grew up with his music. I still can't believe it. Wow. :( :ohwell:
I know! I remember when the "moonwalk" craze first got big. MJ was so massive when I was little, it was literally like he was a kind of god. Definitely way bigger than Elvis or the Beatles by a landslide. Heck I think Thriller has sold more copies than any other record in history.

For better or worse, Michael Jackson will be forever tied into the world of
Chuck E Cheese and Showbiz Pizza.
To me one of the most surreal moments of the Rockafire Explosion documentary, is the section detailing how MJ and companies went to Aaron Fechter's wherehouse to discuss some sort of project.
Also, of course one of the last Pizza Time Theater/Chuck E Cheese characters ever made was King Kat, the MJ tribute redressing of "The King". I so would have loved to have seen that in person, and Im glad you guys posted the links to the footage of it.
And of course, there's the Michael Jackson Parody Posters at Chuck E Cheese.

more than a week later I still cannot believe he is gone. He was such a huge influence on me as a child. Im hoping today's memorial is special and not a media circus.

I just caught the tail end of that memorial (I'll have to go back and watch the rest later on), but that was rough... especially the part where his daughter spoke. I was doing ok watching it up until that point.
I've actually been having a hard time dealing with this. And that's weird considering that I've never considered myself a hardcore MJ fan. I basically grew up with his work from "Dangerous" forward, but even still, as a young teen when that album came out, I was hooked just like everyone else my age.
He's just one of those people that's always been there, and will always be there (at least that's how I've always believed). So with him lying there in the casket it just seems like none of this is even real. My mind seems to still be rejecting this weeks later. I don't know, its sort of like my sense of reality has been ripped apart.
I'm probably being melodramatic here, it's just so weird that I'm bummed about his death (to the degree that I am). Things usually don't affect me like this so I guess I'm struggling with my own reaction.

My feelings are along the line of VegaNovas. I grew up watching Beat it, Billie Jean, all that good stuff, especially Thriller.
MJ just seemed like an elemental force - and he grew somewhat stranger looking, he never looked like he really aged. I guess I thought he was a part of my 80's childhood that would be eternal. It still doesn't seem like he's gone.

I remember running with my skates on at the local rink in the early 80's whenever they played Beat It and Billie Jean. That song still gives me goosebumps to this day, and I cant say I've heard any mainstream radio song since that comes close to evoking that kind of awe.
Anyways, cool to see the tribute radio podcast you did. I didnt know just *how* entrenced MJ was to the CEC/Showbiz world. I mean PTT players,
RAE band, MMBB, and even an actual PTT character after his likeness.
I LOVE this 1988 Chuck E Cheese(Showbiz location, PTT balcony style)
rendition of MJ's "Bad":

When I think 80's, I always think: Nintendo, Chuck E Cheese/Showbiz, and Michael Jackson.
Also for anyone who missed it, the greatest 3D film of all time:

Captain Eo is awesome..i have it on disc and watch it once in a while.
I have not commented in this thread as like Vega i have been a bit of a mess lately. Between this and the death at Walt Disney World this has been a very somber, mellow week for me.
All i can say is i hope Michael can now have the peace he never had here on Earth.
