Ok then Robbie...you've gotta make a list of the MUST VISIT stores in California. Which ones are the most unique? Which ones still have the PTT feel? Which ones have unique stages and posters and stuff? Which are the biggest? Which seems to have the best pizza?
I would totally put Bell and both San Jose Stores in there...and I guess Visalia too since it's the last store with a 3 stage in that state. But what else aside from those?

it helps not having a job. rofl. but after doing this for a few years i think its time i go back to work. lol.
thats what im saying! they need to! lol.
i just take note of that stuff in case some fan somewhere wants to know anything about a certain store.
i know 99.999999% of people will never see nearly as many stores as i have, so i kinda felt like it was important for me to collect data for the fans.
personally i just think it's cool finding something new. you guys would love the 3stage-turned-studio c alpha in st paul, for example. just because it's so unique.
Ventura, cool.
Oceanside, cool.
Newark, why? im curious.
Las Vegas, which? I'm guessing Lake Mead?
Fairfield, because the old design of the building/exterior?
San Jose, obviously lol. I try to go once a month.
Thousand Oaks, neat sports room and raised ceiling where the rocket/nighttime skytubes used to be.
Salinas, why? but the staff there was so friendly!
lol. the areas probably look worse than they are. i actually cant think of any that are in an area that is dangerous.
ya ditto. and duh im gonna be in everyones neck of the woods if im gonna some day go to them ALL. lol.
oh wait, i think i LOVED the one in Roseville....... ......because it was near a Golden Corral. Mmmmmm buffet! lol.
that reminds me, one day i need to make it out to laguna hills cec to enjoy the lunchtime buffet
I like CEC's for very oddball reasons. Since I was a kid, one thing I love is being on a random road trip and randomly seeing a CEC right off the freeway. Or being lost from a turnoff and happening to pass by one. Like you, there's different things I look for. Some of it might be as random as the day Im having or the scenery around it. I like different expected layouts...while many CEC's are insanely streamlined now, some still have a different layout. The Thousand Oaks one I liked as it was mellow. To contrast, I couldnt get into the Burbank or Sun Valley one. The Fairfield one is being remodled, so I've no idea how it will look. I guess I just have a lot of memories there from the 80's and 90's. I have no yet been to the CEC's in Pinole, Concord or Dublin yet.
I wish time machines existed, or the ability to project your consciousness into the past. I would love to go with you and others on a tour of CEC restaurants in the late 80's. Back when they were no longer had "PTT" in the title, and even some were under the "Showbiz" name...but they would all feature the Balcony rooms. I remember in the mid to late 1980's going on so many trips up and down California, checking out many many CEC restaurants. For instance, the CEC in Modesto and Oxnard circa 1988 were very small
but still had the cool seperate dinner/theater room, and that midway point between the arcade that had "The King" and the Beagles.
Early 80's PTT was a bit much, and I can see how it may have scared off kids..it was VERY dark lighting wise, and easy to get lost.
I think late 80's CEC had a good balance.
The CEC in Roseville is like a lot of newer CEC's I've been to in California. Small, Studio C Cappas, but they have their own charm.
Oh the Vegas one I went to...err, it was the one closest to the mall there. Since I was little I've noticed there's always a
CEC near a town's big mall. (As a kid I called it the "trifecta", where you'd find an area that had a mall, CEC and Toys R Us)
Out of curiosity, what do your friends think of your CEC obsession? And have you ever thought about going international to check out some of the crazy CEC's they have there?

How is it at the Huntsville store? As I said in another thread, I've hear that it's really rough due to the part of town it's in. My sisters won't even take their kids to it anymore.

Ok then Robbie...you've gotta make a list of the MUST VISIT stores in California.
There actually aren't very many. Phase IV made most of them pretty standard.
San Jose... all around awesome. chuck statue. 3 stories. huge.
Laguna Hills... AMAZING pizza! best in the whole entire company. in the best neighborhood of any cec in cali.
Visalia... last 3 stage in the state to my knowledge.
Simi Valley... just kidding
Which ones are the most unique?
The ones above are pretty unique. There are a couple more...
Thousand Oaks... only one in ca with a separate sports room to my knowledge.
Ventura... only store in the west with token cards. previously used point system but now all games are 1 token
Which ones still have the PTT feel?
Almost none. Some did but Phase IV killed that.
Fairfield... but i believe it is being remodeled
Chico... but it is no longer a cec
Big Torrance... used to but recently got remodeled and is very cookie cutter now.
Which ones have unique stages and posters and stuff?
Once again, Phase IV killed this off too.
Lancaster... the one stage is very tiny and runs diagonally across the corner of two walls.
Corona... road show with a paint job that makes the "box" colors different
Fontana... used to have a huge 1 stage with chuck in a tux but it has been replace in phase iv with studio c beta
Bell... used to have many of the old posters. they have all been removed in the recent remodel.
La Mesa... the last time i went it was still phase 2/3-ish. had a giant pizza slice on the wall that was a triangle mirror with painted crust and pepperonis on it that i havent seen anywhere else. havent been there lately to report if it has been remodeled. it was previously due for a remodel but they put it off because they were considering moving the store to a new location because the lease was almost up. i dont know what they decided to do.
Which are the biggest?
Not in any particular order or measured with any accuracy. Strictly based on memory/perception of size.
San Jose Fontaine Rd
Bell
Ventura
Bakersfield
Walnut Park
Corona
Covina
Fullerton
Garden Grove
Huntington Beach
San Diego Hibert St
Torrance Prairie Ave
And just for fun... the smallest...
Norwalk
Northridge
and a couple cappa stores i cant pinpoint off the top of my head.
Which seems to have the best pizza?
Laguna Hills (Their own ingredients and method of making the dough)
Pico Rivera (Testing a pizza that is similar to the Laguna Hills one)
The rest are all corporate garbage.

im not sure which vegas one u mean. there are probably more malls in vegas than anywhere in the world lol. almost every major casino has its own entire mall inside it. then there are more malls up and down the strip. and every suburb has a mall. maybe u mean the cec near the galleria?
my friends have different reactions. just yesterday one of my friends blurted (off-topic) to someone "my friend has been to 140 cecs!" i wasnt sure how she was going to respond, but then she said "that is really cool... do u collect stuff from cec? i used to have a coca cola obsession and collected anything related to coke." so it varies greatly based on someone's understanding of being a fan of a particular brand. sometimes people love video games so they think it sounds fun from that perspective. other people see it as one of the last pizza chains where you can actually still sit down inside of the restaurant to eat your pizza. since im in socal there any many adults who are disney fans, so they understand it from that point of view. i have some computer "nerd" friends who think that robots/animatronics/games are cool. most of my friends understand that it has always just been part of my life since i was little and that theres a lot of nostalgia to it. they just go with the flow, have some pizza, play some games, and enjoy it with me. of course there are always going to be the people who dont understand it. they view it as a little kids place and dont see why an adult would want to go. some will get it when i tell stories of childhood memories, but usually these type of people can only think from a logical standpoint and not an emotional one. when they take that approach, then i can usually get through to them by talking about things liike: how they have all the same exact games as dave and busters but for a fraction of the price (i.e. $4 motion theatre vs 1 token that u can usually get for free with a pizza purchase), most of them sell beer and wine, it started out as a concept for young adults, etc. i also think in the back of everyones mind they really just need to see that you arent there for the wrong reasons. there are some crazy people out there and the media really hypes that up. even if someone never understands it, they will most likely just be like "whatever, do your thing" once any suspicions are gone. fortunately no one has ever been like "stop talking to me, that is so weird." but then again i have some pretty great friends. if they see cec coupons theyll save them for me, forward random news or youtube links they come across, give me their unused tickets/tokens, etc. a few friends have even come to me for advice on the best one to go to or how to have a party there in the most economical way lol.
i have thought about going abroad but the countries with cecs are actually pretty sketch. im really surprised at the places that have them. maybe one day i will, but for now i have only been to 140 cecs here and there are over 500. so ill just take care of that first. :))

Yeah there's like 550+ CEC's now....that's ALOT of ground to cover. WOuld take alot of time and money to hit them all up. Too bad I'm poor and have to work full time....otherwise I'm sure I would have seen about as many as you Robbie. I had a plan to hit about another 25 stores when i went to Texas back in 2008...but my car decided to give me tons of trouble and it cost me thousands. :(
Of course, every Cali trip I hit up 2 or 3...used to be 10 or 12...but I dont have as much time off now.

Once you've been to 20+ CECs within a year; I think that should entitle you to unlimited Skee-Ball games for life or something. :)

It's amazing how some cities have 4-6 CEC's(if you count immediate adjacent suburbs)
I sometimes fear people will think "what a weirdo, why is he into old kid crap?" with my lifelong Muppet/Jim Henson mania. Though, I guess now it's seen as more "cool/retro"(especially with The Muppet new film being Disney's main tentpole film this holiday season) Hey, least we're unique. Im the only hardcore Muppet fan I know, just like Im sure youre one of the only CEC fans you know. I randomly went into a CEC today with a friend as it happened to be near where we were shopping, and I felt the need to jokingly say "what can I say, we're just bored", as if there's some perceived shame of being a grownup without a kid in a CEC. I think the look and feel of modern CEC has grown on me, call me weird. When I first signed up on here I was such a staunch "PTT/80's CEC" only fan.
I can totally see college aged or older crowd seeing past what modern CEC is(ie: sterile bright kids running amok daycare) and seeing an overall love of nostalgic 80's animatronic pizza arcades. I think thats why all the Rockafire screenings were packed all over the US with teen, 20, 30's and 40 something college kids and hipsters; even tho Im sure most had never heard of SPP or the RAE.
It is nice, as much as I've lamented upon the "death of true geek culture", that at least anyone can easily find their niche online. I remember in 2000 when I discovered this site and forum, I was riveted.
10 years later Im glad its still around. CEC/SPP/RAE is probably the most niche and obscure of all online subcultures Ive been party too, but I think that rocks.
I gotta ask, what other passions do you have? For me it's retro gaming(particularly mid-late 80's and early 90's arcade and console), indie/foreign films, art stuff and crafts, muppets and indie/electronic music.
One more question: what state do you plan on going to next that you havent been(thats chalked full of CEC's)? And is there any CEC's you wish you could have seen before recent phases/demolitions/decommissions?

Lol! I'd work there myself, but I doubt my mom would be willing to drive me from Braintree to Attleboro lol. My mom said that she had been trying to avoid CEC for so long, now her 15 year old daughter is interested in those types of mechanics XD

Aha! What interests me most is the costumes, EVERYDAY I'm in the costume room, Weather I put it on to walk to the kitchen and be silly or just put on the head and goof around, It's just fun. x)

Hey, how did the show work when you went? I'm planning on visiting soon, but I haven't seen the show since 2008, and people tell me it's now in bad condition.

The only CEC I've been to is the one in Amherst, NY and when I was 7, 8, and 9 years old I had my birthday parties at that CEC and last time I've checked they have the 1 stage. The Amherst CEC I think it opened up between the years of 1989-1992 because IIRC they had on the outside sign originally the "rat Chuck" with the checkerboards stripes and either side of Chuck E., but in 1995/6 they change it to the 1995-2003 "Kid Chuck", but they sign always said "Chuck E. Cheese Pizza" also the bathroom doors still have the old "Rat Chuck" and old style Helen Henny on them. They used have in where the kiddie games and rides are a baby ball bath as well a the ball pits I don't if the Amherst CEC had one or two "big kid" ball pits under the Skytubes? I've been to the Amherst CEC recently and it has changed since the last I was there the ball pit is gone as well as the show room wall and it has a little bit of "Phase 3" with the Toddler Zone area, Ticket Munchers and different arcade games.
