I have a few friends that have caught onto the Rockafire Explosion by association. They both never experienced the band first-hand, so it's interesting (to me) to hear their outside input.

Lila, one of my e-buddies, couldn't stop laughing at their faces when I first showed her the RAE (via an old Cyberstar tape). Quote: "It looks like someone scraped their cheeks off with a melon baller". Especially Mitzi. She's HARD on Mitzi, depending on the make-up. Says she looks like a full diaper. She's convinced Rolfe and Earl are secretly (or not) lovers. She listens to Dook's "Unchained Melody" on a regular basis, though, and admits that now that she's gotten used to them, their faces are "not horrible".

She doesn't know Billy Bob's name. She calls him "bear nugget". I'm gonna call Billy Bob "Bear Nugget" from now on in this thread, okay? Okay.

My in-real-life friend, Erin, is a little less infatuated. Bear Nugget's early-80s voice terrified her, as did Mitzi's and Beach Bear's. She CAN, however, remember the entire history of the origins of Pizza Time Theatre and it's legacy through Showbiz Pizza Place and Chuck E. Cheese. She and I both call Aaron Fechter "Fechter Rage" for short.

I've even gotten my Mom to be a tiny fan! Although she doesn't like the Arcade Fire fan video (says it's too far away from their roots), she loved the old 4 Minutes video so much that now she says she can't listen to the song without thinking of it.

And, although it's already in a different thread, my almost-3-year-old little sister now consistently drags me to the computer and asks to see "Mouse" and "Dog".

Anyone else have similar stories of second-hand fans?

I'm kind of one of those 'second-hand' fans you speak of. I've never experienced RAE first hand, in fact didn't even know about it until a few days ago. I was introduced to it by a good online friend of mine, Gwen, who is also a recent member of this forum. Despite never seeing a show live I'm continuing to become obsessed. I've watched countless videos on youtube, and almost went ballistic on some fool who called Mitzi unattractive and creepy >_>. I guess it's one of those things, you either love it or you don't. I was overjoyed when Gwen told me there's still a handful of Rock-afire shows in operation (some in better repair then others, but let's not go there :( ). It's now my goal to see Rock-afire Explosion in person sometime before I die. In fact Gwen and I want to do it together, so she can relive her childhood and I can discover the one I never had ;)

I know this is off the subject mostly, but Dook sang "Unchained Melody"? Ooh, I wanna hear that! ^^ Is it online somewhere?

It certainly is. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwwE0E4OjMs&feature=channel_page) As a newly introduced individual to the RAE, I found this song quite moving when I listened to Dook's version for the first time. I enjoy it a bit more than the original.
