Hi folks!
Well it is officially 2009 by my calendar, so it's time once again to begin the discussion related to CheeseVention! This year will be the 6th Annual Event, for all fans of CEC and Showbiz!
THIS YEAR however...i have something different in mind that will get the Fan Community MORE involved in having a say. I thought it would be cool to let YOU, the FANS, VOTE for where YOU would like CV6 to be! Yes!
THis thread is a NOMINATION THREAD - here is where i would like to see fans who are interested in coming to CV this season post there suggestions for WHERE in the US it could be. Let's just keep it realistic ( no CV's on MT. Washington, for example...) and fun. Any STATE is fair game....
Folks have until the first week in February to post their suggestions. After that time, i will post a VOTE for the CV6 LOCATION thread where the ACTUAL voting will take place. Please note- depending on what the final desitination choice turns out to be, a alternative location MAY have to be selected if unforseenable circumstances happen ( like airfare prices, world wars, economic downturns, etc...). Rest assured though that we want to give Fans the choice this time around....SO LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD HERE!
So let's start the nominations!
I would like to nominate these locations-
Chicago, IL ( i have planned a CV for this area since 2006..)
Southern CA ( loved it out there, and there is much to do and see even non-CEC/RAE related...plus, Nolan owes us! LOL....)
Orlando, FL ( for obvious reasons...and NOT so obvious reasons...;)

I have been thinking of New Jersey. I really wanted to see the Wayne store, First chance to see a Road Stage. We do have a church in Ocean Grove, but they don't have much empty rooms for us.:|

Chicago would be nice, (close to home for me). I'm kinda new to the site and havent's been to a Cheesevention, but definately want to, but I dont know what the requirements are for meeting places, etc.
Also what about somewhere near Chris Thrash's restraunt? It'd be interesting to see the past of PTT and Showbiz, then to see what Showbiz Pizza Zone is doing to make sure there's a future.

Plus, the new UWink opened on Hollywood Blvd and I've been dying to try it out with some like-minded folks...

I can name several places for the next CV... How about bringing the CV to places who have yet to experience the magic of cheese... Vermont doesn't have a store... How about holding the next CV in Montpelier?
Okay, seriously - the CV needs to be held somewhere with reasonable transportation and a significant site or attraction that people will want to travel to see. Past CV's have included historic Danvers, San Jose first stores and the Irving H.Q. Beyond just naming your own hometown or an entire state, I hope to see posts include the reason for the nomination.
Having a few reasons to attend will help me (and other members) make a well informed decision when it comes time to vote.
Also when making your nominations consider the planning stage and the familarity of your site. I'm sure that the CV committee will favor locations where a forum member is located or travels to. If you are nominating your hometown or favorite spot consider offering to be the CV co-host as your knowledge of the area stores, transportation, and meeting locations will be essential in getting your nominee to the next step.

Well, let'see. We've got UWink, and a ton of local CECs, including a couple of 'notable' locations (the stores used in the film 'Made' and the tv show 'According to Jim')...OH and then Garner Holt isn't too far. Not entirely sure what their policy on tours is, but a friend of mine has been there a handful of times.
And then there's all of the typical tourist stuff. Disney, Universal, ect ect.

Yeah, I'm with Menutia here everybody's gonna want CV to be next door to them but it's not really practical for anyone else attending. So what we're looking for are decent attractions and infrastructure to get everyone around.
I think this could be interesting! Here's my suggestions....
#1 - Seattle, WA - There's a bunch of interesting CEC places around these parts that none of us have ever seen (one with a giant statute, I think that one with the cyberamics on the 3-stage, etc). Plus there's lots of other stuff to see and do here - non-topic related.
#2 - Chicago, IL - There's the NRAE stores, Enchanted Castle, Rockford IL's rocker stage, plus lots of non-topic things like the Sears Tower and the birthplace of McD's.
#3 - New Orleans, LA - Smitty's is about a 2 hour drive out from here (not as bad as it sounds, trust me on this) but we could always have a backwoods "campout" there for part of the event and then have N.O. as our homebase. A few CEC's nearby and lots of historic stuff to check out there.
#4 - Columbus, GA - Since Chris' new SPZ restaurant has now opened I wanna throw this out on the list. It's a bit out of the way, but I'm sure he'd be happy to have us all drop by and invade him. Flights would be into Atlanta, and then a puddle-jumper over to Columbus. Phenix City is close-by, and Columbus is a decent sized town with places to stay and a CEC with a 3-stage that ran really well last time I saw it.
#5 - San Jose, CA - Yeah I know we've been there already. I've got my own reasons for wanting to go back (basically that we didn't have much time to really hang out and take in the area). There's a lot of historical stuff there that needs to be found. This is somewhere I want to make it back to someday, so since we're throwing out locations I figured I'd thow it in the pot....
I'll be fine with wherever it is though. There's been some other good suggestions - Los Angeles and Orlando would be good choices, as would Dallas (for the umpteenth time). Heck we could even do someplace a little less predictable like Vegas or Ohio or the Carolinas. Just thinking out loud here. LOL

Wise words from the Mighty Menutia. Having a official 'Co-Host' to help out with hosting the visiting Event is always a plus. Think of Cv3 at The Captains, and Danny E. helping us out with Cv4.

I'm voting the MidWest...we can go to Rockford, see the NRAE, then trek up to Milwaukee and visit the Chase Ave. store, as it to is historic, then there's a 3 stage in Madison. Not to mention the few abandoned ShowBiz's around these parts.
looneybird78
01-09-2009, 09:10 AM
If all you are wanting to see in Chicago is the NRAE then don't bother. You talk about a let down! The family and I hit BOTH Odyssey locations and NEITHER show was operational. Nor could anyone tell us when they would be.
Thank goodness for Lombard atleast we got to see something new and interesting. (Thanks for the heads up on that Menutia~!)
And ole Rockford yes its still as nice as ever. Just make sure you have a dang party reserved if you expect to sit on the floor of the show room.... otherwise you'll be up in the balcony!

HAHAHAHAHAH Be careful what you wish for Jenn. Mississippi is still hi on the list of Moonshine runners! Maybe I should just go for the realism and put a REAL Still up there for Looney! Gawd he would never come outta his barrel then! Haha Then again I may never go back to my house hahaha=))

I'm with many on this...the Chicago area would be nice...you've got Rockford and it's Rocker Stage, the New RAE...which when I last heard WAS in operation...a number of CEC's in the greater Chicago area, and of course my old stomping grounds in Milwaukee, which are only an hour away from Chicago!
Not to mention all of the non-CEC/RAE stuff, like one of the best Six Flags parks, the Sears Tower, the Pier, The Cubbies and Wrigley field...tons of fun stuff!
Otherwise, I say we make a Trek back to California...with almost 80 CEC's in the state, there's plenty of stores to see...as well as Uwink, Disneyland, Hollywood, Universal, etc...that's all SoCal of course, but there's always the beautiful San Jose store too, just a few hours north!

We JUST got back from our Holiday trip and both Odyssey shows were down as of LAST WEEK.
I snuck a peak behind the curtains at Naperville and the chars are in HORRIBLE shape.
So like I said don't go expecting to see them running. But I do agree with Rockford it is LOVELY!

Great. Any chance for a 'Dreamworks Tour'?
;;)
Regarding the Odyssey FunWorld locations near Chicago - i have visited TWICE over a two year period and have yet to have seen a show run...for more then one lousey TiVo skit!
WHen i went to IL last summer, i was treated to visiting BOTH locations, and neither show was running. The first stop we managed to motivate someone to turn the show on..but it took them about 20 minutes to figure out HOW to ( and this was the 'tech'!). Once it got going, it was in terrible shape. Many many animations out, and the skit only lasted about 2 mins if that and the characters never moved again.
At the second location, again nothing was running. We asked to see the show, and again a 'tech' came to turn it on. Nothing. We got talking with him, and he noted that the show is down as they are waiting for parts from CEI to replace the old original play system. So again, no show. The Bots' and stage looked a little better condition wise then the previous stop, but this was more then likely because they have not moved for a long time!
Forget about these joints.....they seem to me to be nothing but dissapointment. In my opinion, the REAL attraction for animatronic entertainment in a pizza arcade concept is THE ENCHANTED CASTLE! This place is AWESOME. I highly recommend it. The show may not be top-of-the-line stuff ( old school Sally Corp) BUT it has massive appeal and some neat touches. The building itself is fabulously themed and there is literally something for EVERYONE here. They have it all.
Chicago and Southern Cali seem to be the popular choices so far. We have 3 weeks left to suggest MORE..so please so post your nominations!
Damon, i want some moonshine boy!

ALABAMA BABY! :D Seriously, I highly suggest Alabama (You know why :p). I don't think we should have CV in the NJ/NY area until next year (once I get my show operational). My back-up is SoCal. We NEED to see Nolan this time. ( and I gotta ask him about the workings of Computer Space ;))

Just popping in with my 2 cents. I don't really know where to do it but I'd recommend it be somewhere new. My involvement will be questionable because I started a new job this fall and I probably won't have any vacation time between now and fall so at best I might be able to fly out to where ever Saturday morning and be involved for Saturday. Most of these events are done by Sat. night so I'd fly home Sunday if I can make it out at all.

I will echo The Captains' sentiments in saying that i think it would be nice to take CV someplace completely new.
Again, it's all up to the fans where ya'all want it this time around!
So let's see what we have so far listed for Nominations:
Chicago, IL
Southern CA/ LA area
New Orleans/Alabama/ other southern local
Orlando, FL

Seattle, WA

Here are a couple places that I nominate. Non of these are were I work at. I would wanna a place thats anywhere besides my CEC. (reason being: A different CEC experience) Anyways..........
King Of Prussia, PA's CEC: Has a good sized Game Room and Show Room( I think about 13 B-day rows)
Lancaster, PA's CEC: From what I saw..has a clean store.
And Either Somewhere in Deleware or New Jersey.
Dover, DE: I didnt like Wilmingtons, so i guess it would be cool to check out Dovers. My managers says its nice.
New Jersey: Cherry Hill

#1 - Columbus, GA - SPZ!!! & 3 Stage CEC closeby
#2 - Las Vegas, NV - Obviously a fun place and something different. 4 cecs. transportation: airport, monorail, taxis.
#3 - Orange County, CA - A slight departure from LA (only about 30 - 45 mins away), franchise CEC store that uses the old showbiz ingredients for pizza, new cec stores, and of course the stuff thats already been mentioned (2 uwinks, hollywood, disney, universal, bajillion cecs with every possible stage type *except 3 stage*), dont forget knott's berry farm (peanuts theme park) and magic mountain (6 flags). also not far from garner holt. transportation: airports in oc and la, buses, trains, subways.
#4 - Chicago, IL - nrae, rockford, etc
#5 - San Jose, CA - the "main" cec there as well as dozens of others
i would say florida should be next year. and texas needs a break from us. or at least from me. i damn near hit up every cec. lol.

Also, when I turn 16 (in September) I'll be applying for part-time show tech in the Wayne store so then you could see a nice Road stage instead of a near broken one (Much better for you Chuck fans:cecwink:) when you come over here. Hi Rockafirefan!
The CV5 Dvd is done, and last i heard from Travis it was about to go into the Online Shop here. That was a couple of weeks ago. I have not checked the Showbiz Online Shop myself to see if it is currently listed, but if not know it is only because he has not had the chance to list it yet.

I'm voting against New York, due to the high hotel costs unless you stay in Jersey. At least with Chicago, there are lots of suburbs with reasonable costing hotels and such.

Aww, no wonder hardly anybody visits me from out of town here. :(
Nevertheless, Whitehall PA...Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey ...anything in the lower Northeast Corridor sounds good to me.
By the way, what time frame are we looking at? I have a narrow window in which I can exercise priority taking vacation days off work at my job.

For Richard and anyone else wondering:
Chances are good that the actual dates for this years CV will be sometime in June or July.
We have little more then one week to go for 'Nominations' ! Last chance to suggest a location! Starting the first week in February we will begin the actual voting ....and once the votes are in planning will start on the essentials.
First, dates of course. Next, hotels and airfares ( hope for good rates....). Lastly, what we shall do.
One step atta time though....right now we are airing suggestions for a location!

Don't worry about your post. It's not your official Vote.
Once the top locations are selected, you can begin your campaigning for the city you think should host CV VI (6)

Okay Gang....just a few more days before official voting begins!
Last chance to nominate a location for CV6....
If i am reading the poll options correctly on this site, we can have up to 10 choices. I will go through this thread and choose the 10 choices and place them in the upcoming 'Voting Thread'.
Watch for it at the beginning of next week!

What about international locations? Let's go to England and see the RAF shows there and try to find Hannah!

That would be very cool...but i don't think a lot of attendees would be able to make it.
I mean, who here that comes to CV has a passport for instance? If you don't, it costs like $160+ for one now. And how about those airfares overseas...and not to mention the horrible exchange rate now for British pounds vs. US dollars?
Hey, i know you are just kidding.....but yeah, that would be neat to do.
Actually, it would be sweet to go over to that Showbiz in Saudi Arabia!
Who would come with me????

Actually, if your nominating locations, I nominate the CEC at Pacific Coast Hwy,, California. That CEC is a alpha and it's in great shape.
