Hey, here is a topic for anyone to talk about their disabilities, any type of syndrome to attention disorder.
Well I have what is called Asperger's Syndrome. It is a form of autism which affects social skills, which can create a burden on one's childhood, and it is very hard for someone with it to adapt to an enviroment, even if they have been around for a long time. I have pretty much adapted well enough though, sometimes though I can get shy, and at times I can just pace around thinking of something, and also sitting listening to someone speak, can make me shake a little quite a bit(though I don't have ADHD). At times I can get sensative, or naive, or just have weird thoughts, guess it goes all part of my syndrome.

Well as most of you guys know. thoughs who I have met during our wonderful gatherings In Danvers MA. know that I am prone somewhat to seziuring. I have the Jacksonian kind when I just stare into space at times. and I miss at times maybe parts of a sentence or 2 that some one might have said. So what ever type of physical contact that does envolve the head meaning like of sports etc. That's out for me. And it takes people like you to know where anyone with a disability is coming from.:) And I thank each and everyone of you guys to.
PS. I might not be the best at trying to put something into words. But at least I try to anyway.:)

Mine's a physical disability, I had a spinal cord tumor removed in 2002 and now I'm partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair. It's tough at times and alot of places don't have ramps and make it really difficult and awkward to get in. I'm getting more used to it though. It's just really weird when you go from being 6ft tall to like 4 ft tall. :lol :o

lets see I have seizures (grand-mal kind where I'll kinda loose conciousness,. they DON'T happen very often. I also have hydrocepalus (water on the brain) When I was born Doctors placed a shunt in my brain to drain excess fluio. I've had one tube lengthening & a complete shunt replacement. I sometimes shake my head but it doesn't always mean i'm saying "no". @ the time I was born that was the only body part I could really move. I don't think I've told many of you this but when I was born the Dr'.s were giving me very little chance of survival. in fact when the Dr.s tried to put the shunt in the first time, when they anethesetizeed me, I nearly DIED.I also have Cereberal Palsy too wich makes it difficult to do alot of things for myself that a normal 25 year old can. I'm really glad you brought up the topic Matt!

Yeah thanks Danny, I was interested to know what others may have.;)
I dont know if this would count, but i have bad tonsils and often get sore throats....i also tend to frequently get ear infections which have resulted in my left ear being internally scarred. I can still hear perfectly though :)
Nah, i dont plan on getting my tonsils out. I'm willing to live with it :smokin

Hey Matt,
This is actually a good topic to bring up... a bit dangerously loaded, but something that makes for a good discussion. I'm glad someone finally did it. :D
I'm not going to throw names around mostly because it's not any single person that I'm thinking of, but sometimes there's this vibe about some of us being 'Chuck E. retards' that goes around. Which is a bunch of crap I might add - I don't understand why people would even have that attitude. >:
This community is a little strange anyway and why some people would put themselves above others is beyond me. In my opinion, anyone who loves CEC or SPP and visits this website is a little strange, or has a screw loose upstairs at least. That includes myself. ;)
But I don't know, personally I find it all very intersesting myself. There's many people with disabilities who frequent the site - many of which aren't on the message board. I've gotten many e-mails from the parents of autistic children complementing how much all this means to them.
To me it just makes for an intersting community. Not to sound all hippie on everyone, but we really do have quite a diverse range of people here from all walks of life. I've thought about this quite a lot recently.... which is why I made the SP.com tag "Where EVERYONE can be a kid". To me that just fits so perfectly considering how different everyone here is who shares the same obsession.
But anyway it's interesting to hear everyones stories - and thanks to everyone who's shared them so far. Myself... no real physical disabilities to speak of. I did have ear problems as a kid though and had my tonsils taken out when I was in the 1st grade. All I remember was they promised me all the ice cream I wanted which sounded like a sweet deal. Of course the pain was so bad afterwords that I didn't want to eat anything at all. :rollin

Ya! This is a really nice thread to learn about our companions!:lol
1. I have a weak stomach, so I can only eat foods I was used to when I was a baby/kid. So if I try something new, the food will only go so far, b4 (in a matter of seconds) it comes back out!:lol :x
2. I'm sort of pudgy too B and Franchize. It does suck, but like I said above, I can only eat certain foods, (I.E. Hamburgers, Pizza, Steak, all those fatty meat products, and little fruit and vegetables) I don't know whats wrong with you two:lol , but it doesn't stop be from doing Chuck E., its good excercise!
3. I have asthma, its curing as we speak, but it was really bad when I was a kid, sometimes I had to go to hospital and have them give me treatments!:(
4. I have some problems with speech, I can talk normal, but if I talk to fast or respond to someones question, I slush my words, kinda like DON VITO!;) :o I really don't know, I kinda think ahead on what words im going to use, and when I think of them, they accidently come out, out of place....don't think of me like or looking like Don Vito!:\ NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!:lol

I do the same thing, :rollin , man this is what I screw up everytime, "Attention All Chuck E. Cheese guest, will the person with Toyota White Lights on, DAMMIT" Yes I actually say Dammit over the intercome, but not loud enough for anyone to here, so then I try again, "Attention all Chuck E. Cheese guests, will the owner of a Lights on White Toyota, plz turn your lights off, DAMMIT!" And then I do it a third time and get it right! :lol :lol

Let's see: I have never been very social, I possess very strange interests (Like, I'm still a big fan of CEC even though I am 20, and others outside the board think I should have stopped at 10), and I work on various projects in my spare time.
There are a lot people out there that have disabilities (both physical and mental), and I feel it's not right to harass or tease anyone, with or without any disabilities.

me to i can kinda be anti social(sort of i just finish having 40 people come to my birthday party yesterday). what i do in my spare time is try to duplicate the light patterns from the show at our store(Studio C) to my DJ light setup. or i get on my computer and redesign the CEC TV logos(if any one wants to see them email me to franchizeent454@yahoo.com (franchizeent454@yahoo.com) if interested). i use to design the old CEC Stages but that computer is getting repired

:cec_thumbs: I was born autistic, other known as Asperger`s Syndrome. I have a very short body like my grandmother. I get overstimulated sometimes and I tend to cry when there are big crowds around me. But it doesn`t stop me from doing all the things I normally do like swim, watch TV, sleep at nights, go to school, going to CEC and 4-H meetings, and anything else I can think of. I get headaches and strep throat every so often, because my tonsils got taken out at age 7, and I stayed up all night in the hospital, watching cartoons. So my autism doesn`t give me any problems, except for staying up late at nights. :cec_thumbs:

I am studying Special Eduation for Early Elementary as a major and I read about a study they did in England. They were saying how just the food we eat and the air we breath is what causes a lot of the disablities found in children today. This is because of the chemicals they use to grow and process the food we eat and some of the food we eat is just most if not all chemicals. Same goes with the air. I live in Indiana and there is a lot of farming around here and they are constantly spraying for pest which KILLS my allergies and gives me really bad headaches. Not to gross you out or anything but think about the mattress you sleep on every night. To keep it up to code they have to spray it to keep the roaches out of them but when you sleep on it you are breathing in that chemical every night... scary isnt it.

Like a few other members within this forum community, I, too, have Asperger's Syndrome. This condition, indeed, is concerned with the way people with it behave and think. AS in many ways affects how one is on a social level. My sensitivity can often be very extreme. This is probably the primary reason for me getting embarrassed very easily. When people tease me I usually get very upset. You see, I rarely ever do this to others because I do not want to risk doing/saying something that is not appropriate. I am highly afraid of the consequences. No one likes to be treated badly. Most people with AS have a limited range of highly developed interests. This is very true for me. I do my best to always avoid events and objects that I do not particularly care for. When it comes to what I do like my interest in these things are usually very deep.
It should be noted that I am generally a very excellent lesson learner. This is perhaps one of my very best traits. Events that stand out tend to stay in my head all the time on from the moment that they occur.:)

I just live by a quote from the notorious Carlos Mencia: "I don't care if you're fat - be fat and happy, or lose weight." I take it to mean that if you don't like being fat, then stop complaining and lose weight. I'm not saying anyone here's complaining, I'm just quoting Carlos. I'm personally on the "fat and happy" side. I mean, check out Buddha or Fat Albert or even Santa. They're fat, but they're livin' it up! (Sorry, had to make the analogy.) Again, I'm not accusing anyone of complaining, I just quote Carlos.

Fortunately I don't have any major physical disabilities except for minor scoliosis/an asymmetrical back, which does cause me discomfort but it's nothing too debilitating. As for mental disabilities... well I'm definitely not normal. I'm not really sure what's wrong with me. Ever since I can remember I've had a hard time controlling my emotions. I used to cry about everything when I was younger but I don't cry as much anymore, though I do tend to get upset/angry over stupid things. I feel like I act younger than my age, and when I was little my parents took me to a therapist who said I was emotionally immature so I guess that's my diagnosis. Also, I tend to be socially awkward and I get obsessed over things pretty easily.

As I had mentioned earlier, I had noticed that a lot of people here have either Asperger's or Autism. I noticed it when I went to CV7 and when someone mentioned they had AS, nearly everyone else said they did too. I found that rather interesting.
I have it too myself, it was terrible when I was a kid, but as I got older and with help I learned how to function normally. I still have sensory intergration issues but I've learned to deal with it a lot better than I used to. Mostly now, it's hard to tell I have any sort of problem, I just appear a little 'odd', which I am actually thankful for since it's not pleasant when your disabilities are obvious.
On top of that I've had depression and anxiety issues most of my life (starting when I was 6) nowadays the depression is mostly gone, instead of being constant it comes and goes about every few months or so. I'm still very anxious but not to the same extent I used to be. (I used to be extremely agrophobic)
I also have Multiple Sclerosis, when it started last year, it rendered me nearly entirely unable to do anything because I had really bad vertigo and dipolopia (double vision) so bad that I was basically blind. I had to to go through many tests to figure out what was wrong, and had to go through an IV treatment in order to help with it. Nowadays I'm a lot better thankfully. But I get tired extremely easily and get random sharp pains in my back. But as long as it doesn't get any worse I'll be fine ^^

This thread is an excellent idea, as it helps bring us members closer on a personal level{while still maintaining privacy}.
I was born two months premature, and have a mild case of Cerebral Palsy as a result.
It affects everything from how I walk, to how my brain chooses to function on any given day.
I have also suffered from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder since the late 1990's, although it is not nearly as bad as it once was.
Lastly, my second-youngest sister was born with Down Syndrome{although she is remarkably high-functioning}.
I personally dislike using the term "disability", as I feel that all humans have unique strengths and weakness{some people are bad spellers, or deficient in Mathematics, for example}.

Just from some of how people respond or write, I can tell a number of people here over the years seemed to have(on some degree or another) aspergers. A lot of niche hobby forums I'm on seem to have a high concentration of people with aspergers as well as various other challenges. It's good a community and finding shared interests with people online can bring out one's inner self. I think it's good in just the last few years more and more people are recognizing they may have it in some form, providing answers to frustration.
I realize social awkwardness is already an issue with a lot of people, and can be compounded immensely with aspergers or other similar situations. I've always felt like the kid who was last to be picked for kickball! heh
I just have low level stuff...little bit of OCD, type 2 diabetes and depression that comes and goes. I look back though how I used to be, I definitely think I've become way more social and coming more into my own. This year I've just been challenging myself. Some days I'll jog/walk a good 6 or 7 miles, as much as I'm pretty heat averse.
