Imagine Chuck E. Cheese with the technology from this video?

Wouldn't that be amazing?

Yeah. But that would be very expensive if all of the 5 characters had movements like that.Probally a million bucks! lol XD

Yeah I'm sure it would. But what if it was just like 3 characters? I think then maybe a acceptable price, somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 dollars LMAO!!!

That would be a techs nightmare. Still, it would be cool to see. That makes Alpha look like crap.

Pretty much any of Disney's technology makes Alpha look like crap. :)) Technical nightmare, check.... and lets not forget destructive kids... This would be one of those things where stages need to be higher up, like the 2-stage setup so the younger ones won't go around crawling all over it. However, my solution for the older folks... I have no idea.Maybe if kids didn't think it was a robot they wouldn't destroy it? Doubt it, but we can all dream. Still, it would be more than just pure awesomeness. Perhaps some day in the future, they'll get to utilize this technology (which by then may be quite cheap to make and may also be a bit obsolete, making it even better a deal).

They probably know its robots because:

They're broken
You can see uncovered robotic parts
A kid who didn't know they were robots will be told by another kid who does know they are robots
A kid might not even imagine them being robots, but will know it once they see Chuck E come out while the robot is randomly moving around
I have NEVER seen a video on Youtube of a kid climbing onto or destroying a MMBB stage with 5 characters. Maybe because they're bigger? Maybe because the stage is higher? Or, it could be because the stage dosen't have many lighting effects and a cute little carpet like the one they have in their Kindergarten classroom. I hate seeing kids at Studio C hanging on the Alpha desk or walking around Chuck E. I wish they'd fall on their butt and get hurt>:). Then they'd learn their lesson:

DON'T CLIMB ONSTAGE!!!

Awww those are the kind of kids that you can excuse for climbing on stage though. She didn't really try to hurt Chuck. But yeah it would be funny if Chuck actually could defend himself.

Also, sometimes I wish I worked at CEC so I could stop the kids from breaking Chuck. So, I know how you feel. It makes me mad too.

Not necessarily, the way Disney makes their animatronics seems to be in a way where they can run all day with almost no break and work fine for about a month. I rarely ever see a animatronic broken or see a worker repairing one. Also, if they make the stage higher and bring back the desk, if they still go with the Studio C thing, I think that would solve the problem of the kids destroying Chuck.

But if something naturally breaks, it does seem like it would be hard to repair, because it looks like a mess in there. But I suppose some kind of color coded tubing could solve that.

Same here. I think the robots were so incredibly creepy on the 3-stage nobody dared get close to it save the workers. :)) All little kids watch the 3-stage from afar! I honestly can say I've never seen anyone messing with a 3-stage either... and it wasn't really much higher off the ground than Studio C (in fact it may be the same). But perhaps you're onto something with the pretty lights and Chuck's cute appearance/cutesy carpet theme. Maybe if they'd make a retro design that brought back the more adult night cityscape theme back (which was one of my favorite aspects of the 3-stage), kids would kinda... back off? Of course I can't say I've never gotten up close to a stage before myself, but it was for picture-taking purposes.

However, to comment on the robots defending themselves... Chuck kinda can on Studio C...if he's even working. If you're not paying mind to his arms.... well let's just say you may end up on the floor, or you may get a love tap (as witnessed in this aforementioned vid in another thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ3uc5ttW_s)

Oh yeah! I've seen that video before. It never gets old though. Yeah even with 16 movements Chuck still knows how to get away with touching' the ladies. =))

Heres a golden idea (sarcasm was just used) Why not just put up a sign that says "Please Keep Your Children Off The Stage"

Yeah you've got a point there too. I noticed CEC never said to do that. But let me add to that, "Please keep your children off of the stage. If any damage is made to our equipment, you will be held responsible and will pay for the repairs."

I think they can legally, do that.

Yes, and they should make it a very large and noticible sign... Bet that'd help keep control of those stupid kids, if only by a bit.

I'm surprised I missed this thread, so I'm gonna revive it and bring it back on topic.
I spent a good time studying Disney Animatronics, and they are incredibly state of the art. Like said before, these are built to last.

Uncle Walt called his first collection of animatronics A-1 figures. In these A-1 figures, Disney had to sacrifice speed for control. This is the same method CEC does it, that's why CEC bots move slow. To eliminate most of the shakiness, they have to slow the speed, to gain the control.

Now, Disney builds A-100 robotics, giving the figures a human like movements, as seen in the Alec Tronic video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpEP-N-9Vec&fmt=18)
When A-100's came rolling, Disney used a method called "Compliance." Disney uses compliance to eliminate that shakiness in their figures, to make them more life-like. (When you swing your arm and make a sudden stop, does your entire body rock back and forth? No) With this new invention of compliance, they don't have to sacrifice speed anymore. They can have the movements move at incredible speeds and still eliminate that shakiness.

One major difference between a Studio C Alpha bot and Dinsey's A-100 bots is the use of hydraulics. The Alpha bot only uses pneumatics, while A-100's have a mix of pneumatics and hydraulics. Hydraulics require much more care then pneumatics and requires the use of fluids.

Now, I still believe the Studio C Alpha (even though built cheaply) is very state of the art. It doesn't beat A-100 models, but it beats any other Animatronic I've seen out there. If you study it closely, CEC does move quite life-like. This is the main reason why I enjoy Studio C more than existing stages.

We will never see CEC have the technology Disney has, because Disney has something CEC doesn't, and that is $$$$$$$.

If you want more info on Disney's Animatronics, email me and I'll fill you in or this video Brian uploaded on youtube will basically explain everything I mentioned:

Very, Very intresting information. Thanks for sharing it. But yeah I noticed Chuck still has a little shakiness still. Mainly, with his body leans and bady forward movements.
