View Full Version : Chuck E. Cheese doesn't care about maintaining their shows

I made this thread to discuss the fact that CEC doesn't care about maintaining their shows. I'm not talking about the people that go out of their way to make sure they have a fully working Studio C or MMBB. I'm talking about the people that are supposed to be in charge of taking care of these shows and let stuff like air leaks, damaged cosmetics, and extremely low sound volume happen. It's rediculous how CEC is supposed to be coming up with all these ways to make the shows cost less but they still don't make sure it's in the best working condition possible.
For example, the beta Studio C over where I leave has a ton of problems like, The ears sqeeking, exposed mechanics in neck, torn shorts, eyes stuck left, back broke in forward position, head no longer moves (stuck in down position), blue screen shows blue all over the screen, lights are out on the "CEC TV Stand", and proabably more.
But this kind of stuff is why people don't watch the shows anymore. I mean I am actually intrested in this stuff but, If I don't get a decent shows and you can't even hear the show, am I going to go back to watch it another day? No. I think CEC really needs to catch up on repairs insteading of making new stores and finding ways to do that cheaper.
If anybody agrees with me or whatever please post your thoughts and oppinions here.

My Studio C is in such great condition, there was a group of kids gathered around the stage watching Chuck E sing. And when the curtains closed, they were sad because they wanted to see him perform again. The sound is very loud and the movements are working and the store is clean.
There are lots of stores (especially MMBB) that have broken mouths that dangle, one eye closed or eyes stuck in position, and some that don't do anything at all. A lot of people complain about how dumb it is to have curtains but they don't cover their Chuck E up when the walkaround is on ground. I hate seeing a bad show, and it makes me want to work and repair.
If the technicians really did a good job, then more people would watch the show and sit in the showroom. Just about all the grandparents at my store chose to sit in the gamroom so they could watch their kids play. The gameroom is for Playing Games and the showroom is for Watching the Show and Dining.

I agree with you both... People do not pay attention to the shows anymore, which makes me sad as a fan. Our stage is in tip-top condition now that pasqually's eye is repaired.

I agree. But it's not completely the corporate peoples' faults either. It's up to the tech at whatever location you're at to keep up and maintain the show, and if they don't do their job, the robot and other things will break and never get fixed. I don't know anything about fixing these things, but I'd still at least try if I had that job. It makes me want to go in and try my hand at fixing them myself. It is a shame that they aren't being up kept like they should be. I've seen some gruesome stuff on YouTube... But for the stores that know how to budget and make the show run great, power to 'em because they've earned bragging rights.

Sadly, the show is not looked at as a moneymaker, so it's considered unimportant. Some stores have a budget for their show, some do not. If they don't have a budget, then how are repairs supposed to be made? It's ridiculous! Our show budget is $50.00 a month, but if something serious happens, it must be fixed immediately.

From what I see at my new store, the guest give a lot of abuse to the show more than anything. I see little kids all the time get up on stage and mess with the characters and props. I am sorry but my job is not to babysit the kids or the stage but when I see them up there I do tell them to get off and stay off. What the guest don't relize is it's not a play toy and just by itself without the cost of damages from guest the show is a costly upkeep. Our show is a three stage and it creeks and squweeks all over the place. We just got a new tech who is really doing a good job fixing it up; like the eyes sticking the the clothing/fur coming off the robotic bodies.
Beach Bear, some guest do care about the show and want to watch the show. I have guest ask me if they are aloud to sit in the (as they call it:) "party room" (showroom, lol) so they can see it while they wait for the pizza.

You know why people are'nt sitting in the showroom. It's because half the time all the tables have reserved signs on them (at least around here) so people can't sit there. it's not because they have parties reserved oh no it's because the staff don't want to take time to clean the showroom and they save on labor that way! :((

That's how our Chuck's back and head got broken. The kids would pull on his ears and stuff. The sad thing is no workers are even around to watch Chuck. But, I said in my post that I wasn't talking about the people who do a good job in their work to keep their show operating. But yea I know what you mean. I would have told the kids to get off myself but I don't work there so I can't really boss them around but I am older LOL.

thats EXACTLY what happens at like almost all the stores here!!!!! i still sit in the showroom anyway. then when someone tries to come tell me something, i ask them what time the birthday will be at so I can make sure I move before then. they usually respond by saying there isnt one. and i reply "oh great then you wont need to worry about me moving before anyone gets here." they dont know what to say next and walk away most of the time. if they say anything else i remind them that reserved signs are supposed to be for parties and home office spends lots of money on producing the shows for customers to be able to watch, so if they won't allow me to continue watching it then I will be sure to let home office know.
only two times at the 101 CECs ive been to have they still told me i couldnt sit in the showroom (fontana, ca and huntington beach, ca). i called home office on both occasions. never happened again in fontana, although the manager wasnt quite happy with me anymore after that lol (hes gone now anyway). in huntington beach it continues to happen (they even actually have a paper signed taped up that says "showroom for birthdays only") but i havent had to call home office again because luckily i know the gm now because she got trasnferred from another cec i used to go to.
oh ya, i just remembered one of my other key arguing points... what is the difference if i sit in the showroom or the gameroom anyway? either way they are going to have to clean the table afterwards!!!!! besides, i usually clear my own table, throw out the trash, and place the black pizza thingy (omg why cant i think of what its called right now lol) where it belongs anyway. so theres not really much to do after i leave a table.
the problem is that i shouldnt have to fight back. it should not even be happening in the first place. i thought it was corporate policy that they werent allowed to do that. but maybe now corporate just looks at it as labor savings. although it really isnt since any table someone sits at would need to be cleaned. i think the next newsletter needs to have a section reminding stores that reserved signs are only for times when there are actually going to be parties and that they cannot just block off the showroom to keep it clean.
more people would then sit in the showroom. and maybe gms would notice the interest people actually have in the show. although budgets might be low, they can still do things that just need a little bit of labor once in a while (like fixing a broken mouth or misaligned eye)

Good point Robbie. I don't think its fair for birthday people to sit in the Showroom, acting like its THEIR room. The parties won't probably even WATCH the show. If you can't get a seat in the Showroom, if you're at a walless store, sit in a booth that runs with the booths in the Showroom.

Yeah! That is ridiculous... We don't have that problem at the store I go to. But, yeah I can imagine it. They don't want us to go over if a party is in progress and I can understand that part though.

My showroom girls always try to block off the showroom on slow days, just so they don't have to clean up...but of course, me being the meanie I am, I take all the signs down and let anybody sit in the show area...after all, the show IS for EVERYBODY!

i can understand tables being reserved if there actually will be parties. but it pisses me off when they do it just so they dont have to clean. they are at work! they need to do their jobs!

Well you could always run the show without the animatronics, that's basically what alot of the other shows do, because they are so broken.

What I have noticed at my store is that the main thing the kids care about is the walk around charecter. The Stage is small and only has Chuck E. they rather be interacting with chuck then watch him perform.

For my store, the reality is that 90% of people are in the gameroom. The other 10% are in the showroom talking to each other, or have to be there because they are drinking alcohol. No-one watches the show, I even have an occasional guest ask me to turn down the volume as it is annoying to them. Yes, my show is in top condition!!!

That shouldn't even be allowed. But yeah if your stage is a beta, and every movement in your bot works, I have to give you props. Because it's not easy maintaining the bots when the kids destroy them like they do.

The other day I went to the CEC in Annapolis MD and Helen's Latex mask was looking terrible and there WASN"T ANY FUR ON CHUCK E.'S INDEX FINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm reviving old topics again. Yay?
First of all, this quote made me laugh so hard my heart started hurting.
Second of all, I notice this in every CEC I go to (granted I've only been to the ones in San Diego, minus the Vista and Oceanside ones because I have no interest in seeing Studio C, No Munch = No Me). I even posted a new topic (with video footage B-)) yesterday and as much as I'm probably making -too- big of a deal out of the ANNOYING AS HECK kids I saw at the Mira Mesa store yesterday, it really REALLY REALLY bothers me when kids get up on the stage. It bothers me even more when the parents TELL THE KIDS TO GO ON THE STAGE. I couldn't even stay at the Escondido CEC for more than 15 minutes because the kids and parents were pushing me to the edge. LITERALLY. The parents were shoving me out of the way so they could eat their cake. And the kids were pulling all Chuck's cosmetics off. But that was nothing to what I witnessed today at my store in Mira Mesa. These kids, and parents, had absolutely no respect for the bots whatsoever. I know kids may not understand that they are expensive and whatnot, but they should at least know they shouldn't try to destroy things that aren't theirs! One little girl was the 'leader' of the entire 6-kid group of demons. She started out grabbing onto Chuck's mouth and pretty much hanging off of his jaw and arms, then proceeded to stomping on his feet as hard as she could TRYING to rip his feet off (she DID manage to rip the fur off his feet), kicking him, trying to snap his arms, etc. Then she moved over to Jasper and thought it would be fun to sit on his lap and violently swing his body back and forth, pull his gloves off, mess with his guitar, force his jaw open while he was talking, etc. While she was doing that, the other kids were sitting on Munch's keyboard and killing Pasqually's arms, as well as kicking/punching his drums. Their last victim was poor Mr. Munch (which got me REALLY angry. Nobody. Touches. MY. MUNCH.) They were pulling his arms down farther than they ever move, taking his body cosmetics off, rocking back and forth on his keyboard, punching him in the nose, SITTING ON HIS ARMS, hanging on his arms, and twisting his head and body back and forth. They did, however, manage to somehow get his head and body turning again. I don't think I've seen him move back and forth since early January! He's always been facing Jasper. But, anyway, the most annoying part of this (besides the fact I couldn't stop the little brats) was that the parents kept watching them going "Oh look, she on Chuck E. Cheese. Look! Look! Hee Hee Hee! Funny." X-(
I want to get a job there just so I can guard the stage with my life.
At least I don't feel guilty about standing on the stage to get pictures with Munch and Chuck anymore. :-S
End rant.

And a rant well needed. I've acquired the same feelings for the stages. I've always respected them and enjoyed them as a show, but now in the present, I feel even more angry when I see videos of kids purposefully destroying things and the parents sit there ENJOYING IT like it's ok to just keep on with that kinda behavior.

Thats like at my show. We have a beta. The kids like to punch Chuck's nose, try to force his mouth open, jump on his foot while he trys to tap it, take off his hat, force his arms into positions he is encapable of, push his torso up vertically, and make him stand up (Which I will admit I like because it makes Chuck look better and the movement even sticks). Yeah our Chuck probably has 16 working movements and hes a 32 model. I'd also like to get a job at my CEC to return it to it's former 2004 glory and protect it from any further harm. But at least the kids got Chuck to stand because he usually dosen't.

Where in California do you live? I live in San Diego.
That's really terrible. :( It seems nobody respects the robots anymore, not even adults who should know better. That's like as if the parents were in a parking lot and just let their kids sit/play on some random person's car. If it's not yours, you don't break it. I don't see what's so hard to understand about that.
I did, however, see something today that made me realize there are still people out there who do care about the bots. This little kid up in La Mesa was IN LOVE with the robots. He saw me taking pictures and he looked at me and kept saying 'Chuck! Chuck! Look!', and his little sister was staring in awe at Pasqually. Her mom couldn't get her away from him. She just stood there watching him sing. It was ADORABLE. If you want to see some bots that are WELL taken care of (even down to Munch's fur being combed!) on a nice high stage, head down to La Mesa, CA. The condition and programming on these bots totally shocked me.
