Congragulations Matt. I got my Eagle right before I turned 18. I was in scouts starting in the third grade as a Bobcat, went on to Webelos and all the way to Eagle while I was a senior in high school. I proudly display all of my scouting awards in my dining room. It is the first credential I list on my resume right after my college degree.

I was in OA. I did the tap out and ordeal but wasn't really active after I got into my lodge. I only went to a meeting or two. It's like being in 2 scout troops. The guys that got really involved with OA generally went inactive in the troop.

We had tapouts when i was a new scout but when we switched councils we had to do it the sucky modern way where you go on a wknd and notch sticks and tapouts are "hazing" also i do so much and dont miss a meeting of oa or troop also capt wat lodge r u in u stay in till u die

I heard they got rid of the tap out which was really cool. I don't know if they do ordeal or not because that could be considered hazing too but it wasn't done in an abusive way. To me hazing is really people doing mean spirited things or endagnering the lives of their initiates. Really most of the hazing problems are specifically fraternities or sororities in college. It can be a problem in high school too sometimes with Cheerleading and school marching band. I am in the Mikanakawa Lodge for OA and my Council is Circle 10 which is north Texas and now part of Oklahoma.

They still do ordeals but in a different way if you'd like to hear how you can give me your email adress and i will email you because we can't let people on this board hear about it and i was not allowed to get taped out because i was one year short of when we stopped doing the tap out and switched councils

Yes OA tap out hurt. if you were a candidate you were really warned to wear sunscreen. If you got a sunburn during camp and got tapped out, I don't want to think about what that would have felt like... If you guys wanna talk scouts off the board my email is MScherpenberg@yahoo.com
