Honestly that's pretty bizarre. I don't think that change is big enough to escape trademark/copyright infringement. That's close enough to confuse people and therefore crosses that line. I wonder if CEC's international trademarks are registered in Mexico though.

This restaurant looks like some hack-job anyway. Probably not worth their time to pursue, but it's likely that they're not even aware of this place (until now, if they're reading this thread).

;)

Someday there should be a REAL CEC in Mexico, was there ever a CEC/PTT in Puerto Rico?

VegaNova
05-23-2008, 01:10 PM
Yeah there was definetely a PTT in Puerto Rico. Not sure when it closed, but I've talked to someone who used to visit it in the early 80s. He recorded (from the showroom on cassette) some of Madame Oink's Tunnel of Love.

Chucky the Chihuahua? Wow, that's odd! I wonder if they have poodle Helen, Bulldog Munch, regular Jasper, and Greyhound Pasqually... (or in this case, a show!)

That's a lawsuit waiting to happen but I don't know if it is worth pursuing given its outside the US and how much luck they'd have with it but clearly it's a rip off. If that were in the US changing the name like that isn't close to enough to escape a lawsuit. They nailed Showbiz in the early 80s for copyright infringement just on the similarity to the concept.

Oh man, Menutia you just made my afternoon! I was tempted to ask if anyone had any video of that place, but what are the odds of that?? That's really a blatant ripoff, so it's not funny I guess, but I can't quit laughing.

Those guys definetely have some cojones, I'll give them that.

They've really dug themselves into a deep hole with all these licensing and trademark violations they've commited. No doubt that these lawsuits will put them out of business.

Yeah somehow I don't see this store having a fairy-tale ending at all.

I tried to look at their merch counter on their website and I didn't see any store-specific merchandise. But man, if they have a Chucky Cheeze mascot plush, I so want one before they get their backside handed to them. Anyone vacationing to Puerta Vallarta anytime soon?

Hard to say...the first time I went to that site, the same message was displayed, so who knows.
Anyways, a friend of mine in Mexico went out and snapped some pics of Chucky Cheeze's (haha) for me in May...I'll ask him if he's cool with me posting them here, if anyone wants to see.
For those of you curious, yes, Chucky is a Chihuahua, and no, there are no animatronics (unless you count the bull, of course)!

Hey everyone. I remember there being a thread about the Mexican knock-off restaurant Chucky Cheeze but I really didn't feel up to searching for it again.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a commercial for the place on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsRdYXSW5ls

They've even got a walk-around! Can you believe that? I still don't know why this place hasn't been shut down yet.

The stole the name Chuck E. Cheese.
They have a Barney thing in the commercial.
And when you go to the web site it plays the edd, ed and eddy them song.

Hopefully not, it's too dangerous down there right now. The drug cartels are pretty much running the country.

What are drug cartels?

And Chuck E. Cheese will never return to Australia or France or Japan for current CEC locations, and there has yet to be a CEC in England/United Kingdom! And there's several CEC locations in Canada!

As long as there's money to be made, Chuck E Cheese may branch out to other countries. I remember hearing a while back that they were looking at International locations in the near future...so places like Austrailia, England, Mexico, etc. could be seeing their own CEC's soon.

Mexico only recently became a very dangerous place. Pretty much all of the corruption and drug involvement is coming to a head. It hasn't spilled over to this side of the border yet.

Most poeple don't hear about it in the news. A couple of weeks ago there were 12 murders in one day. They've already surpassed over 1000 murders this year alone in Jaurez, MX. Basically, a war between the Mexican Mafia and a few others who want their business. Alot of massacre type things and stuff like what we saw coming out of Iraq early on in the war, except no IED's. kidnappings, beheadings, horrible stuff.

The police corruption there is pretty bad. The president of mexico sent in some federal officers and soldiers, and they ended up in a gun battle with the police! Yeah, i'm not doing that install.

You are incorrect! It is not a show, it's artwork!

I can safely bet that the character artwork on the walls wasn't properly licensed. :-P
One of the party rooms on the website is called (when translated)"Chucky Cheeze and it's friends"=)) There is even a Superman room. And the "Barney show" is a room.

And when you go to the web site it plays the edd, ed and eddy them song.

I hear the song!

I might E-Mail them and tell them to close it.

Why would you want to close this place down? This looks surprisingly awesome! I'd go in a heartbeat if it was local! Truthfully, it looks a lot cooler than the ACTUAL Chuck E. Cheese's!

Oh, and here's my imagining if they ever install an animatronic show at a Chucky Cheeze: instead of a Munch's Make Believe Band, they'd do a mariachi band! I commented (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsRdYXSW5ls) on the video of the ad (with alias fromwkfsmouth) asking what's next - I can imagine it having a Pasqually knockoff who is dressed in formal Mexican wear!

There was a CEC in Australia (A PTT),but it was called "Charlie Cheese's Pizza Playhouse", since chuck means "throw up" in that country.

The rip-off website! Glad I found it!
http://chuckycheeze.com.mx/
When I click on that link, it said "Account Suspended" which means that the real Chuck E Cheese may have closed the website down, or Cartoon Network suing them over the song on the website, or probably both. Is this place still open in real life?

Hey look, a cheaply made Chucky costume and a Barney show!
No! I am Pbsfreak's sister, and it said when translated (before the site closed) that it was a room, not a "show".

Let me guess (since i couldn't find anything about it)... Creative Engineering?

Not to mention they have illegal art all around the walls, if you go on the virtual tour on their website.
And they had claw machines, which the real Chuck E Cheese doesn't have!
In the commercial, they had burgers and chicken nuggets, which the real CEC also doesn't have, only hot dogs!

Sorry for bumping the topic, and talfonso, you bumped a topic that was almost a year old!
