Dont really care for it unless the intermissions are good.

Will the programming be the same as last year or does Micheal have to reprogram this show?

Michael doesn't have to reprogram the show since its already ben done. the only thing that department 18 needs to do is add different intermissions.

If I could change anything in this show I'll have Helen sing "Pocket Full of Sunshine" insted of "Hot Sausce".

I didn't know about that being a Chaka Khan parody but I was aware Hot Sauce was a parody of Donna Summer's work.

(There's actually a few other songs I was not aware could be bought, like Back in Time by Hewey Louis & the News and also, Cheeseburger in Paradise (parody being Cheese Pizza is Pure Delight) by Jimmy Buffet.)

Have you guys seen the "Blue Screen Intermission?" The best part is Chuck E introducing it. Instead of just having video and music show up, Chuck actually invites all the kids to get up in front of the blue screen and interact with it.
I know the Water Skiing footage is recycled but this spin of CEC introducing it is kinda cool. I always thought the bot should do more during intermission time. I know with no curtains at my location, it would be cool to have the bot actually interact during the intermission. He could even act like he is announcing the birthday party commercial. Instead of just having the voice over for things like Minute Maid coupons and bday avertisment, have the bot actually appear to be making the commercials. Might actually draw more attention to it instead of it just fading into the background noise of the place.

A very interesting concept, but I'm not sure if corporate would go with that, since that would probably mean even more parts in the robot that would need fixing... and then the tech of today would most likely say "to hell with it, it'll stay broken" which is unfortunate. But as a whole, that would certainly make things more interesting.

im just happy they even make new shows as often as they do

i mean, when u really think about it, the couple dozen or so of us on this site are the only ones in the world who care so much about the show

im not saying no one else cares. im just saying not as much as we do

i wouldnt doubt it if one day it goes to just an annual show or something

most families only go a couple times a year

so lets enjoy the 5 shows per year now while we can

This is the show that was playing when I became a fan so I have an extreme attachment to it.
I think I like Best Friend or Summertime best

I'm kind of upset that the show is opening a month earlier. How long will it run? I haven't seen the April '09 and I'm running out of time!

06-11-2009, 01:21 PM
Wow! This song must be a very interesting song! I don’t know how they can make the birthday show longer! When I had my camp events for my group there, and it was somebody’s birthday, I had a hard enough time keeping the kids interested in the song when it was five minutes (plus countdown) I love it, now the birthday song is 10 minutes long not even including the countdown. Good thing I’m not doing a camp event this year!

bzier
06-13-2009, 10:19 AM
NO...it's not one big song...it's a bunch of guest interaction as well as a crown ceremony, the medallion ceremony the birthday song and a short version of birthday star.

Last night we had a BDay meeting, and I got to be the first person to try it as Chuck E....holy...cow!!! It's....nuts. It's extremely fun, don't get me wrong...but I do not expect a crowd of 5 year olds to be paying attention to me talking for 17 minutes, in fact, I'm expecting to not even be able to dance and instead be mobbed! But, during the test run I had tons of fun. The only thing is, it took the life out of me! I was so exhausted after that, that I could barely walk around!

I was at CEC yesterday and when they did a birthday show they played it from a boom-box next to kid check (like it was a road show), but Chuck E. was dancing all the over in the showroom!

And weirder still, the b-day song they used was Birthday Star 2007 I think. I didn't hear the beginning

I went to a CEC for the first time in almost two years to check out this show again (wanted to see the Huntington Beach footage ;))

The only problem I had was that the store I visited refused to turn up the show volume. Seriously, we were sitting at the table in front of the Studio C Chuck and I could hear the Cast Member at Kid Check talk about her pathetic life better than the show. It's unfortunate when the audio in the bathroom is louder than the showroom. Might as well have dinner and a dump in there!

Although I could barely hear it, the songs were pretty solid originals/parodies. It was surprisingly a short show. I'm use to the looong 10 - 12 minute intermissions from a few years ago.

Anyway...it was fun to go back after a long absence and I look forward to the September Show. If I can hear it, that is...

Intersting format to Summer 2010, though I'm not too thrilled with the re-use of songs we've already been listening to for the past three months...and a Best of for September? Um...okay?

Ugh...I can't take any more fo that Justin Beiber kid...please tell me he ISN'T involved in the January 2011 show...

I think it's just about time for me to find another job.

Whoope doo...how I can hardly wait...I think I'll be too busy working for the other mouse than to go see a 4th run of half of the Summer 07' show with some exclusive songs that have not been in a CEC show for years...songs from the recent April 2010 show.

If i'm whining...I don't care...this stuff is just too funny to not complain about. I feel bad for complaining about the last three showtapes...but something tells me I have a right to feel the way I do about recent showtapes. Though I am glad Matt is back...and I think the CEC voice actors and programmers at Dept. 18 still have the talent...it's the constant recycling that is getting incredibly ridiculous...but I thought I just share that. There's nothing I can do to fix it, along with the rest of the fans, but I wanted my opinion to be known.

Point being...I am now worried about the future of new showtapes and the characters themselves.

I know! If they are going to recycle why not do some of the older stuff from 1998-2004 or '05?! That's what I want to see. 2004 was one of the best years for me and I don't think it was just because I was really young. The Jan 04 show was great actually. I wouldn't mind a rerun of that one.

:)) Ole Mathat, Why am I not surpised that you're complaining agian? You know Mat, before I started working with Dept 18, I used to think the same way you did about about the re-used content and not fully understanding why. Now that I'm working with Dept 18 now, I fully understand why and it makes sense. It all comes back to a simple word,"buget." We are not hollywood and we don't have that "Hollywood" buget. We so much for the year and that has to last us. so recycled content is necessary in order to strech that dollar.

Now here's what really cracks me up... The April 2010 Show had about 95% new content and guess what? People like you still complained about it. Now granted you are entiled to your option. I just want you to keep what I said in mind the next time you wanna go thunderfinger happy on the keyboard.

Well, I think most of the people that dont enjoy the April show dont enjoy it because 1- All intermissions, 2- Bieber, and 3- If by 95% of the content is new, than I am guessing you are talking about the new commercials! I hope the next show will be at least a tad better. Sorry if that sounds true, but its my opinion. I do like most of the songs Chuck sings though.

I knew the recycling has to do with the budget. And it wouldn't surprise me if corporate is sucking the life out of dept 18's budget, especially since I'm seeing how they're strangling all of us stores with our budgets as well. I know many workers are getting paid minimum wage, and many of us managers are making below what we should be making, and yet I'm sure the bigwigs are making more than ever year after year. It's the times...and it's not just CEC. Most companies are doing the exact same thing.

MatHat13
06-29-2010, 11:37 PM
Well I guess I understand the whole budget thing...and well, I don't mind recyled intermissions...it goes more to the show segments. But yeah...the economy does still suck...so I guess I am kind of understanding when it comes to producing new shows.

As for April 10'...I had no problem with the segments...it was the long intermissions, and lack of character interaction.

But I mean eh...my opinion stays by. But hey Michael...at least I know I can't do nothing about the show's content and i'm not at least people like Paul who demands corperate to make the 3-stages and shows more better. ;)

I agree. April 10' is a GREAT show. It just takes a while for the actual SHOW to start. Since we have long intermissions. I know CEC has to credit their sponsors and everything though... But on a unrelated note, I'd really like to know how are shows programmed? Do you have to type in time values and which movement or function to activate? Press a keyboard key to the syncing of the movement or function?, Do you guys sync it in like a timeline interface?, or do you have a board with a bunch of buttons setup?

Nooo. The fall '02 show is MUCH to good of a show to reuse. We've got to reuse the "Just For Kids Show" again! Just kidding! I'd personally like to see a re-run of Summertime '03 next summer, if your going to re-run things again. I didn't get a chance to see that one. Chuck E's Rockin' Rhymes, January 2005, or September 2006 would work for me as well. Especially since September 2006 has "These Words", "The Look", and "That's A Deal". So it'd be a great choice to re-run.

I have lots of questions about how the financials work in the entertainment dept. What's the allocation percentage of licensing vs. production? Are the ad spots actually sold, or are they bartered? All the spots are for products that CEC sponsors, but it seems to me like you could have some real leveraging power to play a spot every hour in every store in a company that does $800 million in sales a year (going off the annual report here).

NOOOOOO! Some of the Segments are one-songed. I'm glad In The Summertime and Best Friend are being played again. Those are both my dad and my favorite summer songs. I know I meant the segments are all generic...I'm saying it would be soooo much cheaper to just use the four original segments instead. I don't care what they put in the intermissions as long as it doesn't effect the show segments/character devolpment which IMO the April 2010 show did just that...though the songs did save that show. So...how much will we hear out of Munch and Pasqually if the shows continue the 1 song per segment format? Chuck sings, Helen sings, Jasper sings...and that's that...maybe you'll hear the whole band laugh for a sec...eh...this is all your fault Justin Bieber..

the 2nd paragraph was talking about the summer show & how they were using the 4 song covers from the April 2010 show & the 2 segments from the summer show. Then he say "We know you're gonna love it" And if you don't blame Michael Hill (aka puppetmaster 29). Here is one other thought in regards to the complaining of recycling material. Did you know the CEC has reused skits from the very beginning of time? Seriously. Many of the early skits from the first shows were still recycled on Foxy Colleen, Sally and Harmony Howlette. Segments of Harmony's show appeared on Madame Oink's reels. It wasn't until Broadway Helen before the first rounds of recycling stopped. Then those trends continued later in the 80s with earlier Helen material. CEC has ALWAYS reused clips of their stuff on show tapes. The idea of recycling clips with the MMBB is nothing new. It's been going on since 1977.

Man, I had Richard Scary books back when I was 2 years old. It's funny how that and Arthur have become actual cartoons almost 4 decades later. I met Marc Brown, the creator of Arthur when I was in elementary school and got several of my original Arthur books autographed by him.
