It appears to be a sign that may have also been used to inform people who'd never come into the restuarant before what it was they were going to do at the desk in front of them. But yes, it does seem likely it was a preview.

The store I used to work at (080) had Cameras installed in the hanging sign for kidcheck. It was cool.
