Suggestion for other smiley characters

I think that the board should have more characters in the smile section.
Theres alot of billy bob's(:bb_happy2::bbangry::bbembarassed::bbsad::bb wink:)
And like only 2 other RAE characters ( would post the smilies but limited to only 5 )

I agree aswell. The mix of old smileys mixed with character smileys make it look weird. Maybe the :p smiley could be redone to have Looney Bird doing it, or even have the :grin: smiley redone to have Beach Bear!

Here's another idea. Replace the smiley box with a box of links that each go to a different character's smiley page. One for Billy Bob, one for Chuck E., etc. Each page could have a character doing every smiley action. The possibilities are endless!!!!

First off, thank you for your suggestion and we will add it to our "Things to do before I Die" lists. :)

The reason why we still have regular smilies, is for the people that choose not to use the RAE or CEC ones...I, for one, is an example. But don't get me wrong, I still like to use CEC/RAE ones for specific reasons...

I'd like to point out that there are four CEC smilies and eight RAE smilies. Thats two times more RAE than CEC. So to keep it fair, we would either have to take away some existing RAE ones to make news ones (like a Beach Bear or Mitzi) or leave the existing RAE ones and make new CEC ones. We want it to be fair for both CEC and RAE fans here.

I'd like to remind you that our forum is powered by vBulletin and we are limited to what they have to offer to us. So making an archive of smilies and having links redirect you to them might not be possible...its something we could look into.
Also, I don't know myself, but we also might be limited to how many smilies our forum will host....

If anything happens, it will be during the "Season 3" remodel. Many other ideas are in the design phase for the remodel as well. ;)

Also, Travis was kind enough to make those for us.. they don't just come out of thin air. We'll be having an upgraded smilie collection down the road, but I'm not sure if that will include the characters.

All I'm going to add is that the emotions also are overused as it is, and adding more would only be enabling the problem. I believe it's set to not let you use more than 5 or 10 smilies in one post, but I think I might limit it to like three, because they're overused. The smilies are not meant to take place for actual words or be used towards the required ten characters required for a post. The members who have been here for months haven't complained, they were quite happy we added new ones to begin with.

So that said, welcome and enjoy the forum!

Well actually I wouldn't mind having more, or designing more for that matter, but it'll take a little time. Like Jeff said the "To Do" list seems never ending. I actually tried downloading a copy of Ulead GIF Animator yesterday to get the job done (a questionably legal copy since the full version is $49.95) but ended up infecting my computer with a virus of some type. Luckily I'm smart enough to repair my stupid mistakes. ;)

So yeah, we'll have to talk some on what can be done with it before going crazy with making tons of them. Also I agree with Aaron that people overuse them in posts. There's never a reason for stringing 4 or 5 of them together in a row.
