What is the best website to download videos off Youtube. I want the ones where it's automatically in Windows Media Player.

As far as I know, none of these sites do an automatic save to Windows Media format (for one thing that would be a Microsoft copyright violation). So what you do is use these sites to download the .FLV flash file that is actually residing on YouTube and then convert it to whatever you need using something like Super C.

Try one or the other. There are additional sites but they seem to be offline at the moment.

What I've had to do is convert them using a special set of codecs, and some rather unreliable programs. However if you stick with it, it works like a charm.

I used to use youtubex.com and some of the others but often times I can't get them to work. So I use Firefox plus the DownloadHelper add on (both are free) and so far there hasn't been an embedded flash video that I haven't been able to snag.

Once you have the FLV video you have to "convert" it to AVI to get Windows Movie Maker to play/edit it. Once you get it in there you can do all sorts of simple edits to it. Movie Maker crashes all the time on my system and I don't reccommend it, but when it does decide to work it does neat stuff.

Anyway here's a page that talks about how to do all this stuff... it's what I've been doing to make the Video Archive edits thus far...
