We've just lost my favorite entertainer... and definitely one of America's favorites.......
Don Knotts (1924-2006)

Don Knotts passed away on Friday February 24, 2006 of pulmonary and respiratory problems. Don Knotts was 81. Andy Griffith was at his side.
Thank you Mr. Knotts for always bringing a smile to our faces. You will be sorely missed :(

I got to meet him and Tim Conway a couple years ago when they were doing a comedy show. He was so nice and down to earth. His comedy will be sorely missed! Good Ole Barney Fife thanks for the memories!

Ah no way! I didn't hear that til I read this. I loved Don Knotts. I have always been a big Andy Griffth show fan. Barney Fife WAS that show. After he left it wasn't the same. I also really loved his guest appearances on Scooby Doo. I thought it was cool they paid tribute to him by dropping his name in the movie during a conversation.

I don't know if CEC/PTT's Jasper T. Jowls had any influences on the late Don Knotts (as well as another Andy Griffith/Mayberry actor named Jim "Gomer Pyle" Nabors).

I loved Don Knotts in the 60s movie "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken."

I doubt Jasper or any other PTT character had any influence on them. THEY might have been influenced by the Andy Griffith characters. I do believe at least a little bit of Billy Bob and the gas station theme were based on Gomer. I think that is a little of what Aaron was going for. There was no Barney Fife like charcter in either CEC or the RAE. It's too bad. Barney was such a great character. Don Knotts did a lot of other stuff but I think he left his mark as Barney.

You don't understand, like Don Knotts and Jim Nabors, Jasper T. Jowls of CEC/PTT was a country/hillbilly leaning dog since 1977.

Hey man.. I hate to burst your bubble.. but Andy Taylor, Barney Fife, and Gomer Pyle were making people laugh on TV at least 12 to 14 years before CECPTT was ever thought about... you did know that "The Andy Griffith Show"... or TAGS for short is 46 or 47-years-old didn't you???? The First Andy Griffith Show aired in 1961 and was filmed in early 1960.
After all.. the first five years of the show were black and white. LOL! Does the entire World revolve around the CECPTT characters in your view or something ...??? :p
Don't take offense to that... It just looks that way.. that's all.

I see some Gomer qualities in Billy Bob but definately not Jasper. The fact that he was hillbilly like really doesn't have anything to do with any of the Andy Griffith characters. To me he is nothing like them. The fact that Jasper is a very southern character is a very weak connection.
