View Full Version : Thinking it's time to bail CEC

I think in the next week or two I am going to be giving my two-week notice to CEC, so the question is...
I mean really, for those who say it may get better, down here in Burlington, it ain't gonna get better, never will, after last weekend.
Burlington's CEC these days is either ****ty, pshycotic, junky, trashed, dissapointing, etc, it's not worth it even if I am the best Chuck there. It won't get better if I continued, it'll just get worse til I end up going crazy there.
So, i know i can make my own decisions and all, I just posted to see, what are your opinions on this, not only my CEC issues but the way most CECs are run these days?
:(

Sex, drugs, and breadsticks...sounds like my kind of CEC!

All Chuck E. Cheese's have the same problems. The saying is that one person can make a difference, but I've found that only reigns truth if there's one person in every area that wants to make a difference. A single cast member cannot change the entire flow of the store, unless the master trainer. A manager cannot do it, or even a GM/DM or higher, for that matter. The store will only change with the right team, and until there is a meeting of the minds so that teamwork is the #1 priority, stores will continue to fail.
CEC is like politics, you either love it or you hate it. To me it seems every few weeks something happens at your store you cannot handle, so you threaten to leave. That's one of the many differences between your district and my district... if you guys threaten to quit they beg you to stay. A general manager can threaten our DM to quit and he'll find their replacement. This company says people are their greatest asset, but they want the right people... and for that reason, I agree on not begging anyone to stay. If you are bold enough to threaten to leave, then don't waste your time and work where you are unhappy... leave.
Every store I've been to has its ****s, psychos, junkies, trashed shifts, dissapointing days... all that jazz. You have to be able to work through it if it's somewhere you want to be. Usually I avoid these topics, because I feel like I'm lecturing, which in a way I am, but its just one of those talks that needs to go down.
If you are really that stressed with the store, take a break. However if you are so annoyed with it that you keep threatening to quit, save your time and theirs... just leave. I know you've been told to transfer before by people here... if you don't want to leave the company then just do that. My point is, coming on the forum every few weeks complaining about your store isn't going to change it. If you applied your efforts you use on complaing here rather towards your restaurant, cast members and management will see the difference, and that is what changes the store. All it takes is one positive person in an area to turn it around. Focus on one area. Take the gameroom if that's what you have, and do everything in your power to make it better. But if you're in gameroom, only worry about the gameroom. It sounds like you're trying to turn around the entire store, and you just don't have that much power yet. The more you show you're a positive person, rather than threatening to quit, the more they'll see in you, and even your managers will follow your positive example. You'd be suprised just how much of a difference you make when you are positive.

Yes, I agree most CECs these days are indeed like in the condition that I am feeling, but when I see it through other eyes, I see more people thinking they need a better job that pays better. Indeed, it is true one person cannot make a difference, but when it came to being Chuck, that did make a difference, and that is the only difference I made on my own at that store. Our head showroom girl is also very good at the job because she's been with the company for quite a while(quitting back and forth). She feels the same as I do when it comes to the way things are in order at our store.
Yes, I do admit, I have complained alot about my store, but sometimes I guess you can't blame me(depends on how you read it I guess), and I almost actually did quit, even saying 'I quit', one day a few weeks back after I was stormed by too many guests and cast member requests, but I guess from the way it sounded from my managers and a few Cast members they wanted me to stay(probably because there understaff and so their parties can go smoother, plus...I guess i'm also 'fun' to have around').
As for transfering, sadly, I cannot do it because I have little experiance driving on the highway 20 min to Danvers, and there is lots of traffic every weekend, and my mom won't drive me all the way there either, so that is out of the question for now. I have also complained about the problems that I have complained about here to my store...but they laugh and don't care, and tell me to stay positive, and **** like that, that won't help.
I guess our districts are pretty different in some ways, I suppose Aaron, down in NJ the stores are well run(?). How many cast members does the average store in NJ have?

Our cast numbers run completely different in each store. My old store had over 40 and the store I'm at now has around 15. You're 18, right? We have 17 year olds driving 30-45 minutes to our store on the parkway, highway and routes. Our general manager drives from New York down everyday, so I guess I don't see the driving point as that big of a concern. Like I said usually I avoid these threads when they do come up, but if your concerns weren't addressed headfirst, they might continue and I don't think it's right. What I've learned is the amount of cast doesn't matter... it's quality over quantity.

Like I've told you before, Matt.... If they make you completely miserable and you're not getting anything out of it... leave! I know you'll find a more enjoyable, better paying job elsewhere. I know some people may be shocked at your saying that you hate the job and it sucks, but every store must operate differently 'coz DIFFERENT PEOPLE work there, right? Some people may love it and others hate it, but I think that really has a lot to do with the environment you work in and WHO you work with. Like any other job. Ya heard?

I'm gonna be blunt, and this will probably come off as me being a jerk.
Suck it up, and work out your problems, or just leave.
You need to stop complaining to us. We're not your managers; I always talk to my managers, about every question, or problem I have, and they are always willing to talk to me.
And if you have a problem with your co-workers, let me let you in on a little secret : Every job, that you will have, for the rest of your life, is going to be filled with people who are jerks. Learn to deal with it.

Ok, I am really going to sound like a jerk, but,
COME ON GUYS, you are all complaining cause Matt comes here to blow off some steam. This is a family here, I know that we may fight like familys, but we are also here to support each other. If Matt needs to blow off steam, what better place to do it, than with friends that understand. If you dont want to hear it, just dont read the thread. I know I have not been on here much lately, and I will post the reasons why in a diffrent thread, but REALLY guys, lay off Matt when he needs us, and support him. We all know what its like working at CEC sometimes.
Ok, I am now going to climb down off my soap box and continue lurking in the dark.

Matt-
Speaking as someone who is (gasp!) twice as old as other members here :bbsad: I'd say this. You can still enjoy CEC without working there, and other jobs will give you more opportunity for money and advancement. If CEC's your thing, good on ya. But I dunno if you could afford your own RAE on their salary. But now I'm mixing my fandoms. :)
Carry on! Let us know what you decide. I for one don't think its whining when you consult those who care about you.

Thanks J.
To be honest, you guys would understand this more than my managers who don't even have any, and I mean ANY Friggen time to take their 2 minutes with me, I'm always put up at f**king kid check and were so understaffed at our store no one has time to talk to me, so I guess its just more of a disreguard, I thought since you guys are better about CEC than my store is, you'd understand, which is true, J.'s comment made me feel better.:cec_thumbs:
and to amelovesjasper, I'm sorry to say this, but your comment didn't do me any better, you sound exactly just like my managers.

...I'm usually at Kid Check too, I don't see what the big deal is. You need to show you're serious about working there instead of whining about it, which is what you seem to do.

Is that your final answer? This thread is so beyond closed... however, one final note, and I'll let everyone swallow this however they choose...
