The CEC History section says in part about the Wall Portrait show at the San Jose location:

The show would run only at certain times during the day, and the characters and shows were quite different from they way they exist today. Pasqually would call out the pizza orders

I don't understand how that would've worked.

Does this mean that somebody would speak the pizza order into a microphone and move the Pasqually figgure around so it looked like he was calling out the order? I doubt it because I don't think the technology was that advanced at the time... but what else could they mean by "call out the pizza orders"?

I always assumed it was pre-recorded but I'm not into PTT, so I can't confirm it.

Yeah that's what I'm starting to figgure. That would actually make for some pretty cool atmosphere. Creative idea...

This is just an assumption. But maybe the pizza orders were called out by numbers. They could have pre-recorded the order numbers along with any additional comment that Pasqually would have said and the employee probably pushed some button on a computer to call the next order number.

Similar to the Secretary of States office (DMV) where you take a ticket with a number and there is a sign that displays which number is now being served. When your number shows up on the little number display board, a computerized voice calls out the number that is shown on the number display board.

Just an assumption. I only know what I know about the 1st early PTT through other members on the board and in the info section on the site.
Maybe someone else could provide more insight?
