I'll have to look through my stash. The thing about our Helen costume was that she was given to us second-hand from our sister store. They had the Jasper costume and Helen plus Chuck. She look like roadkill but it was my job to get her to look good again. Here feathers were falling off, the tights were dirty and riped, the whole thing smelled but a weeks worth of patching-up, having the costume drycleaned, gave here a new look. Anyeays I'll have to look for you chuckrules.

I'm so glad you were able to get her from your sister's cec store and that you got her looking so beautiful again. so now you have Helen, Jasper, Plus Chuck all together now for walkarounds? AWESOME!

that is the beauty of franchised stores. they are allowed to have all 5 walkarounds still (Munch Jasper & Pasqually had to be ordered directly from Cowan Costumes last I heard) Puppetmasterdo you know if this info is still acurate? I got thhe info from Mix when he was still in Dept 18.

Indeed after the corporate edict came down eliminating in-store appearances other than Chuck, at the franchised Union NJ we continued to have at least Jasper and Helen around as long as the costumes held up, which wasn't very well and too long, and of course that ended with the takeover of 2003. I now posess the last Helen costume that U-NJ used though she's quite a wreck, and the last full-time Chuck who was with us now has their last Jasper costume. In fact, it was the one that appeared in that Conan O'Brien video I posted last year.

So Corp. stores are not allowed to have the other characters come out? That's so sad! When we bring Helen out the kids love her. You're still able to get parts for Helen and chuck only right? When I spoke to the parts dept. they told me no more for the other costumes. Recently I had to order new tights and spanky-pants for our costume. I tried to ask about the purple cheer costume but they said they didn't have it to sell, I guess it's for the videos only. We have three green cheer outfits though so oh well.
oh yeah and chuckrules, I know how much you love her so........

Yes, it's sad but true: Corp does not want the other characters appearing as the feeling is they upstage the "star", Chuck E.
I know this well....trust me.....as it was one of the main reason i lost my job at CEC. Considering it was lost for something i firmly beleived in...well, that was a good way to end it i think.
The last two months or so i worked at my store we had three characters: Chuck, Helen and Jasper. Helen and Jasper were from my personal collection, and i had purchased them so our store could have more then one character out during our live shows like we had back in the good ol' days. They were clean, "official" costumes...not funky half a****d things slapped together. They were "Standard" performance grand suits from Corp.
We would use all three characters for the weekend Live Shows and it created a absolute sensation. People were SO excited to see Chuck E.s friends it was borderline hysteria sometimes. When Showtime came for the party waves, the entire Showroom would literally light up when Chuck and his friends stepped out to perform. The response from the audience was electric. You could feel the level of excitement in the crowd build up and then explode during the final notes of the last song.
Unfortunately some people felt this was a bad thing......bringing additonal excitement and having a "exclusive" attraction at our location was viewed as something to be remedied and done away with. I was told the excitement we created was bad as "The other characters are taking away from Chuck" and "We can't have other characters seeming to be MORE popular then the "star".
Okay, i can understand these concerns in some sense...but the additional characters were being used to COMPLEMENT Chuck, the "star" , NOT overshadow him which is what the DM feedback was at that time. Helen or Jasper would only appear WITH Chuck E. and both would recieve the same amount of attention from the Guests. Naturally though Helen would be more popular with some of the girls i'll admit.......lol...
Other angles came into play, such as the fact that by having three characters, we were "breaking the brand name mold". That is...we had something the other local CEC stores did not have and this was seen as bad. Since CEC is a brand name, all CEC locations need to be exactly alike and offer all the exact same services. Having something different, like additional characters, was bad as it made our store different from the others in our District. This was not acceptable. Having an "edge" to help us garner more sales was bad.
So our store had to stop using the costumes....and they left when i did.
I always thought it was a lost opportunity to use additonal CEC characters. I can understand why the Company decided to phase out there use, as most stores had trouble keeping one costume up to Standard let alone 3 or 4...but what harm is it for those stores that still have well cared for usable costumes to use them?
Well, it was a long battle and i tried....and had full support of the store behind me, as well as my GM at the time. He loved what was going on...but the uppers had the final say and that was that. We were creating a stir ( a posititve one with the Guests) and driving people into OUR store location because of it. It was our "exclusive" in the area.....and we finally had an edge to keep Guests coming to us instead of the other 2 to 3 locations 20 mins away! That was, and still is , a major issue with my old Store: losing sales to the "newer" locations just down the highway. We finally thought we had found the edge we needed and it was WORKING....until the plug was suddenly pulled.
It was GREAT while it lasted...but again, that was seen as bad in certain peoples' eyes.
So my advice to any Corp stores -- If you have your "other characters" still, it's considered VERY taboo to use them. Corp wants all the attention on meeting Chuck E. ONLY and none of his friends are "allowed" to steal his spotlight! If you have your GM backing you up, you are very lucky indeed. Just pray the DM does not get word of it, or your job will be in jeapordy.
To all you franchise locations that still have them: USE EM' all the time for your Lives and you will create a estastic reaction from your Guests. It also brings a lot of life to your performances, and i found dramatically raises the enthusiasim level of your Party Hostesses' and DRA's who have to do the Lives! Screw Corporate mentality, and MAKE MAGIC! :p

Hi Jenn, wow! Much mahalo for sharing your story! I can't believe all that. I too can understand what you were explaining about how other characters may take away from the fact the Chuck is the star but that's just it, Chuck is the star and everyone knows who he is anyway. Guest may struggle with the other character like who they are, Helen's sometimes refered to as "Birdy" but kids know what the mouse's name is. Anyways thanks again for sharing, Helen so far is creating a posative addition to our store and I don't ever want to see her go.

I'd love to get my hands on some of the other charater's costumes! My GM came from a store that had a 3-stage, and now that he works at our store with a crappy Studio C beta, he wishes we had the other characters. I asked him what he thought about live shows using the other character walkarounds, and he thinks it's a great idea!
I'm sure he wouldn't tattle-tail to our DM about using the other characters, so if I can ever get my hands on them, we're definitely gonna use 'em!

Well then we'd just have to find a way to keep it a secret from him, or find a way to either get him transferred or ousted! Lol!
My GM told me today that corporate has really been thinking twice about some of their past decisions. Look at the whole slow-down of Studio C conversions from the existing stages.
Hopefully things will begin to turn around soon!

Hey guys! Ok, Here are some pics of our Helen costume. I know her head doesn't look like the one from the videos but that is because like
I mentioned, she was given to us second-hand from our sister store. The feathers were practicly falling off whenever you moved. So when I was given the task to put her back together, I simply got a feather boa and hot-glued and zip-tied it to the existing metal frame. I know it would have seemed much easier to just order a new head but of course that would have costed an arm and a leg plus to ship to Hawaii??? Yeah, not cheap. Anyways here she is. Hope you guys love her as much as I do.
Oh yeah and incase anyone's wondering........ This was not me, the person in Helen is infact a real cheerlearder so doing the splits was a piece of cake. :helen:

When I was Chuck during my days at U-NJ, that was one of a number of questions I was frequently asked by guests...
"Are you a guy or girl?"
And another was...
"Are you black or white?"
And I would respond by pointing to the back of my hand.
"Oh, you're gray, huh?"

ChuckECheese383, That would be awesome if you could post pics of their Helen. It's interesting how you guys mentioned that people actually ask you if you are black or white when you're Chuck. I've had people ask if I was a girl or guy but never that. Well to be completely honnest, very seldom will you ever see any guest who are black. In Hawaii we have a mixture of different races but not many black. That's why it shocked me to hear that guest over there actually ask that question. And if they got their answer, what does it matter??? If they find out that you are black or white does that mean they arn't going to take a picture with you, or let hug their kid? You're Chuck E. Cheese, not whoever.

It may have had to do with the precise location of the Union NJ store...literally straddling the urban environment of Newark/Hillside NJ to the East on one hand and the quieter suburbs of Union township and county to the West.

The guest were cheering through out the whole thing, the energy in the showroom was awesome. The second time I came out was for a walk-around. I again had lots of fun with the guest. I went to a table that a huge family at it. There was plenty of kids and their parents there. I had the most fun teasing the guys at the table. I kept blowing kiss' and playing with their hair. I posed for tones of pictures, and pretended to want food and soda. I don't know if they were drunk but the guys were in a great moode. It made visiting this family so much easier and fun because they were at least playing along with me. For those of you who do walk-arounds you know how it can be hard trying to visit tables. ive been through the same thing, i got money sometimes too, but only the b-day kid gave it to me, he couldnt get enough of Chuck, he wanted me to stay while he opened his presents, i did of course! i get drawings that kids draw all the time, those i keep around!

Yesterday Cheerleader Helen appeared in our local July 4th Parade. As i had mentioned in this thread a while back, all 5 characters were slated to appear this year in honor of the 30th Anniversary.
Well, it happened!
Early 90's Chuck, Cheerleader Helen, and Classic PTT versions of Jasper, Munch, and Pasqually all marched in the parade. Our own Richard was there to partake in the event, and hopefully at some point he will get to post some of the photos that were taken at the event.

Yes Richard had told me that he would be partaking in the Boston 4th of July Parade with CEC and the gang! So Jenn were you Helen or was someone else Helen for that Boston 4th of July event?:)
And my favorite walkaround versions of the CEC characters would be anywhere from early, mid, and late 90's to what is current!

Wow Jenn, that's sounds like it would have been so awesome to see. Two years ago I was supposed to apear in a local Christmas parade as Chuck but unfortunately my manager yanked me out of it because there wasn't enough showroom on-hand to host parties that day. I've never seen the other character costumes we have here because my owners keep them in storage but hopefully I can change that and get them out for more appearences. Aside from our store having Helen, our Jasper costume is at our sister store here in Hawaii. I have seen the costume when I visited the store but I never got to see "Jasper".

We couldnt keep her seeing as that we borrowed her, but the kids, parents, as well as the employees loved her, and to our surprise she actually didnt take the spotlight from Chuck, they shared it! Also we did a live B-day show together, which was an excellent experience, but sadly I didnt get to capture videos or pictures of that, maybe next time!

I love the pruple shoes our Helen costume has but the green ones deffinately go with the green cheerleader outfit. If corp. ever decides to sell the purple cheerleader outfit I'm definately going to order it. One day when I was Helen I decided to wear CEC's green shoes out, can't say it looked right but it kinda did. This Helen costume also looks like it is in great shape, that's really awesome. I am now a huge fan of Helen after actually walking around with her lol I also kinda of want to own my own Helen costume to go with my Chuck E. suit, but Helen is a rare one to find though! The store we borrowed that one from actually got her as a limited edition of when they first opened up, the suit is in pretty good shape but some of the paint was starting to wear off on her beak as well as the suit part is kinda a dingy white, its pretty good, but still pretty good! So, how often do you get to be Helen? I so wish we could have kept her at my store, but she was only around for the weekend only, maybe next time we'll keep her for a week or 2! Wow, you wore Chuck's shoes with the Helen suit.......hmmm.....I can see that matching considering she has green and yellow in her outfit, the only way it wouldnt have matched is if Chuck's shoes has C's on them hehe.... I'm glad you two liked the pics, pretty soon I'll post up pics of my walkaround costume I have, its in great shape as well, but thats another topic hehe. Also thanks for the comment on me being a cute Chuck! I bet that day i took those pics, everyone probably though that me and the person playing Helen were really a couple, but thats all in being a good actor/actress!

I thought her eyes were green, because the plush i have has green eyes, but then again i thought maybe they made the plush wrong and that the eyes were really supposed to be blue, but then again, im not sure how old this suit is, they've had it since the store was called Showbiz Pizza, so thats pretty old! Originally, Helen was issued to look like the Stage version ( black and purple dress, black and white "hair"..blue eyeshadow, etc.). In the mid-90's they simplified the costume and introduced a new look for her with the Cheerleader version. The newer version had her with yellow "hair" and the green outfit.
Now this is where things get interesting....
Original Helen heads had black eyes( no colored iris) and light blue eyeshadow. Newer heads had "colored" iris eyes such as purple and green. I have seen all three versions and it is interesting to see that some modern heads have purple eyeshadow and purple eyes with the green and yellow theme. You can usually date a head by the combination of the colors.
Some "old" heads also sometimes get "modernized" so you will have a head where the iris screens don't match. It just makes things all the more interesting for fans !

Rebecca, do you actually have your own CEC walk-around??? I believe Franchize has his own head and hands? but you have your own full costume? Is it "yours" or your stores? I'm bumed you never got to hang on to the Helen costume longer, she's a real joy to have. And you're right about the part you said about how guest might have thought that you and the person playing Helen might be a couple being the way you guys were behaving in costume. When I'm Helen or Chuck, whoever I'm working with, we always pretend to actually behave like a couple. We hold hands, link arms, give kiss' , kids think it's funny but it's all good. The bigest laugh is when a kid tells us to kiss and then they say "Eeew!" when we do it, I mean hello, you asked for it.:) And Jenn, that's all interesting about what you said about the differences between the eyes of Helen. I never noticed that. Oh yeah, and Nevin, Today at work my co-worker came out several times as Helen, I went picture crazy for you buddy! lol my name isnt Rebecca its Andrea! Yes I have my own walkaround costume, this one doesnt belong to my store. Being a CEC collector and all, I was able to find someone who was selling one ebay and bought it from them, they also had a Helen one, but I missed out on her! You're right Helen, made our store more exciting those 2 days, kids got to actually see her for their b-day or not even for their b-day, everyone wanted a pic with Chuck and Helen! Actually we were actually acting like a couple in the suits, we gave each other kisses, we mostly walked hand in hand as well as with our arms around each other, that was part of the characters! I enjoyed it as well as the other person! My managers son was like, "does Helen and Chuck E. sleep in the same room" how funny was that when that came out hehe...... I'll be putting up pics of my costume pretty soon, possibly in the fan photos board. Mines has 3 sets of hands for each outfit, 1 head with red hat with black rim on it, the black tux with matching shoes, and 2 other outfits, one the outfits comes with Chuck's actually walkaround feet, they kinda took a beating but what could i expect they are old, but still usable!

That's funny Andrea, yes Helen was going into Chucks room but Helen and Chuck do share the room together ;). It's funny how you mentioned the star on the door, MMBBfan327 mentioned the star in his thred, said it was a classic. It does help to let guest know that it isn't the bathroom. Our stores layout throws guest off so it helps. Her pompoms I believe are the originals, or at least ones that came with the costume to start out with but she has another set of pompoms. They aren't as big as these but they are the rinky-dink kind and completely yellow. And like I mentioned about her feathers, well when we got her she practly had none. Since it would have costed way to much to get a new head for her, I just got a feather boa and did the patch-work. Not to put my creation down but I deffinatly like the original feathers that come on the head like the ones in Andreas pics but I had to do what I had to do. I love Helen anyways. :)

After circling the gameroom five times, Going through the skytubes one time, dancing in the showroom, and playing with toys at merch, I decided to leave the store. We weren't that busy so I left. My manager thought I was nuts for wanting to go outside. I didn't have an escort but that doesn't matter to me. Chuck wasn't even with me. He came out earlier so I was on my own. My store is located in a mini shopping center so I visited some of our neighbors. I went into a store down the way from us which was so much fun. The owner there loves when CEC or Helen visits. He's a sweet chinese man so he rings this bell and I danced the hula for him, it was super funny. I later walked down to an ice cream shop and sushi place where I waved to families inside. Since I wasn't geting much love (mostly weird looks or laughs), I went back to my store to change. So that was my excursion.

The pink glitter eyelids have been the official replacement lids for the C-Stage Helens for the past 6 years or so now. Most tech's order them are replacements not realizing that to better match the Helen Mask onstage they should order CEC Lids ( light blue versions) instead!
So to answer your question, they are not overly rare since they are of a newer type, however it is not common to find out in the field.
I ordered a set for our stage Helen at my old Store back in 2002 and was surprised when i opened the box and found these light pink eyelids covered in irridesent glitter. I ended up not using them, and ordered a new set of blue CEC lids which she has to this day. The pink glitter ones would have made a complete mess on her black velvet dress as the glitter bits flew everywhere when you handled them...imagine the bigger mess with all the fluttering they would have done everyday on stage!
I now have them on my B.B. Bubbles...they are PERFECT for her.

At my old Store i used to have all of us suit up and go off on little outside adventures...usually on the slower weekends when we had the staff availible and it was a great excuse to lure some business in.
I remember a couple of times Chuck, Helen and Jasper went grocery shopping next door at Market Basket. The staff would always be caught off guard there, but eventually became familar with it happening so played along in the end. I clearly remember a couple of times...once i think Chuck actually bought something! One time i was Helen, and the three of us went off to visit all the stores in our strip mall. One of them was a beauty salon..so naturally Helen wanted to have her hair done! We all went in and while Chuck and Jasper sat waiting, Helen sat in the salon chair and fluffed her feathers in the mirror as the beauticians looked on in delight. They loved it, and the kids waiting to have their hair cut went crazy!! It was awesome....we then went over to the grocery store for yet another visit...Jasper drove the shopping cart while Chuck and Helen walked down the aisle hand in hand picking out various things.....ha ha! It was great...
Ah the good ol' days when we could do cool stuff like that...
Now all the characters live with me and have their own adventures.

They ARE very nice...and look spectacular under the spotlights....but the glittery mess they make on the clothing ( not to mention the stage floor!) made me not want to put them on.
They look much better on B.B. anyway....Stage Helen really needs the light blue CEC lids. They match the C-Stage mask better. The glitter pink ones just wash out somewhat in the spots ( despite the glittery twinkle)
The Original poster asked if folks here own Helen costumes. Yes, i own two - Original "Dressy Helen" from the early 90's ( black and purple formal dress/ white feathered hair) and also a more modern "Cheerleader Helen" ( yellow/green cheerleader captain dress - orange/yellow feathered hair).
I love em' both...but of the two the cheerleader version is MUCH more comfortable to wear..and a LOT cooler too. I did not have the original pom poms that were availible for use with the costume, but ended up making my own earlier this year for use.
You can see me in action as Cheerleader Helen in the 'CheeseVention 5 Dvd Promo Video Clip" posted on YouTube ( link is in the CV5 video thread!) During the finale you can see my Dressy Helen costume in the Band Finale segment, though in this segment i was playing Tux Chuck. Munch, Jasper, and even a PTT era Pasqually costume make up the rest of the Band. It was a cool way to finish up this years' CheeseVention!
Glad to see all this interest in Helen costumes.....even the Company is showing a LOT of interest in having her back at the resturants. :->

I've seen Helen out here in SoCal a few times...at the Valencia and Burbank stores. I wonder if they 'rotate' her or something. According to this kid I used to babysit, they have a Jasper at the Sun Valley store, but I was there a few weeks ago and didn't see him, so...it is a mystery.
*cough whisper*
Jenn...you-know-who did say Helen AND Jasper, right...? 8->
