I'm really into video games, and just wondering what kind of systems you guys have/had in your life, or your personal favorite. I had NES, and still have N64, PS one, and PS2, but I'm talking just classic.

I don't have any modern systems... game cube, X box, playstation, etc. The old Atari is all I really play.

Hmmm...I'd probably count that in the Atari section, thogh not the same, they're still kind of similar, so if you want o vote for Intellivision, vote for Atari. At least that's what I would do. Man, I wish our NES hadn't of busted on us. If anybody has any old NES games, email me!!! We do still have our N64 system. Just got Banjo-Kazooie the other day! It sucks because my Z button on the controller doesn't work, and Z is the most important button for the game, however our other games are okay.

Man, you all are truly lucky to own all of these old systems. The oldest one I own NOW would be N64, but I did at one time have NES. Hopefully for Christmas, Santa will give me a NES system! I'm just hoping...

Atari all the way. I will always love Pitfall 2. And those dragons that look like seahorses in "Adventure," always get to me. :rollin I do, however have fond memories of playing my brother's NES....

I know it wasn't a game system, but I loved my Commodore 64. The Atari 2600 next, then the Colecovision.

Hey! I was just cleaning out my room and I found an old cartridge. I'm not sure EXCATLY which system it's for, so I'll ask you guys.

it has a red sticker that says "SPACE ARMADA," and it's a small rectangle shape with a slanted side. and, on the top it says INSERT TO THIS LINE. It has the cartridge battery on the open side, and on the back it says (C) MATTEL INC 1979 USA.

I THINK it may be a game for Intellivison, not sure.

The one standing up in the pic is what I found. BTW, these are not mine in the pic.

Dude, it couldn't have been yours cause your 14? Weird...

MMBBfan327
09-25-2005, 08:37 AM
Yeah, I was thinking maybe it was one of my parents, or maybe my brother bought it from his friends during the NES era (no idea why). I think it was my dad's, so first I'll ask him, and if he doesn't know, or if it is his, you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna TEAR UP THE BASEMENT LOOKING FOR INTELLIVISION!!! :D

MMBBfan327
10-01-2005, 09:44 AM
THIS JUST IN---Ok, I asked my dad about Intellevision, and he said he had Atari 2600 (only with PONG), and that's all he ever had, so it's still a mystery of where the Intellivision "SPACE ARMADA" cartridge came from.

MMBBfan327
10-02-2005, 03:06 PM
OK, THIS IS SWEET!!!

Today, I found 6 different games!!!!

I found:

1. "Space Invaders" for ATARI 5200!
2. "Taz-Mania" for SEGA Genesis (Mint int he box w/ instructions)!

and...........DADADADA!!!!!!:

4 GAMES FOR NES!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!

THERE'S SMB. 3, NES OPEN TOURNAMENT GOLF, SPIDERMAN, AND BATMAN: RETURN OF THE JOKER!!!!!! AHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Atari kicks a** all the way...there is no comparison when it comes to CLASSIC home arcade systems. Nolan became a legend for this baby!

I can proudly say that i still have my original 1981 Atari system and that i STILL play it to this day on a regular basis. Some folks look at me like i'm a nut when i state this..but heck, i still play my vinyl records and shoot photos with a real camera that has film in it! LOL!

Seriously though, Atari rocks. They had the neat stuff back in the day, and there is just something incredibly nostalgic about whipping out those old school joysticks and stuffing a cartridge in the slot. Let's not forget to put on those big a** padded headphones and listen to some New Wave music at the same time!

Yee Hah!! Now we're livin'!!!!

MMBBfan327
10-04-2005, 09:51 PM
Which Atari system is that, Jenn? Atari 2600, 5200, or 7800? Doens't one of them have controllers that look like telephones with a joystick on top?

Shiney Happy Jenn
10-06-2005, 07:25 PM
I have 2/3 machines and they are all 2600's.

My original is a 79/80 model with the wood grain finish. The one i play all the time is the 1981 black version ( often referred to as the "Darth Vader" model).

I have a huge load of games for these......from waay back!

I also have a Game Boy color and a Nintendo 64 with a few cartriges. The Game Boy i play once in a great while, and the 64 is not played much as i have it in storage.

The newer games just can't cut it when it comes to nostalgia, so Atari is king with me!

I thought i would share this with all of you....

This is a awesome and highly informative site all about the amazing history of the Atari, it's creator, and everything e vent remotely connected to it!

Check out this great site: The Atari Museum! This site is graphic heavy, so if you have a slow loader, give it a few minutes....it's worth the wait trust me!

hey, that's pretty cool, and here's a website I ADORE:

www.angelfire.com/80s/thenes/ (http://www.angelfire.com/80s/thenes/)

(turn your speakers on for a blast from the past when you go to it);)

BTW Jenn, which games do you have for N64?

DO you by any chance have NES?

Shiney Happy Jenn
10-12-2005, 09:37 PM
No, i could never really get into Nintendo anything really. Even the N64 i have i rarely use. I only have like 2 games for it and although i enjoy them when i do play them, they just don't challange or interest me like the classic old games do.

I did get into Game Boy Color back in 2000....i bought one second hand from a employee when i still was working in Danvers and it came with several decent games. I was a huge Pokemon fan then ( still am) and prmarily bought it to play the totally engrossing original series of Poke games ( red, blue, yellow, etc,). In the following years i picked up a few new catridges for it as by 2000 GBC was on the way out and everything could be found in the bargin bins. I still play it once in a while here...but it's my Atari that gets a regualr workout.

Fave Atari cartridge games:
Joust
Ms. Pac Man
Centipede
Defender
Space Invaders
Dig Dug
Sequest ( Activision)
Adventure ( nostalgic purposes)

MMBBfan327
10-13-2005, 03:33 PM
my friend told me about DigDug.

He said it wasn't that interesting. What do you actually do in it?

Shiney Happy Jenn
10-14-2005, 07:50 PM
Dig Dug:

You play a digger who tunnels his way through the underground trying to avoid strange monsters hiding in various areas. You score points by blowing up these monsters with a air pump ( i'm NOT kidding...!) and also by moving the most earth by simply tunneling.

The more levels you complete, the faster and more complicated it becomes...and the more fun!

It was a popular arcade game from Japan in 82/83. It's a neat game...different.

MMBBfan327
10-14-2005, 08:18 PM
Ok, thanx! That game does sound, different. I myself am a HUGE fan of Space Invaders and Q*Bert!!! Remember that game!!!

captslappy
10-16-2005, 10:50 AM
I remember the arcade Dig Dug! I wanted some classic upright aracade consoles and I hadn't even thought of that one. I have too much other stuff in my house though and no room to get anything like that though.

MMBBfan327
10-16-2005, 03:04 PM
You want to get the actual arcade for DigDug? Won't that be expensive?

captslappy
10-17-2005, 10:46 AM
Yes but so are animatronic robots. You can buy them though. My problem is I have no room for upright arcade machines. If I did have room I'd love to get Ms. Pacman, Donkey Kong and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A pinball machine would be cool too. But like I said I have no room to set up an arcade in my house.

MMBBfan327
10-31-2005, 06:23 PM
I dunno why, but I always favored Ms. Pac-Man over the original.

MMBBfan327
11-06-2005, 05:17 PM
Wait, Jenn--

Have you ever played "Pole Position II" for Atari? That game KICKS *SS!!!

MMBBfan327
11-19-2005, 01:09 PM
Today I got "Beetlejuice" for NES. It kicks ass.

Shiney Happy Jenn
11-21-2005, 09:03 PM
I have the original "Pole Position' for the Atari 2600. It's okay...in it's day it was very cutting edge and advanced.

Q*bert rules. The upright arcade game was always such fun...i loved the added effect when Coily the evil snake fell off the pyramid and a metal ball would knock inside the side of the game cabinet. It was as if he really did fall down into the game cabinet!

The original Space Invaders upright by Taito kicks butt. I LOVE that game...it's so freaking nostalgic. I always loved the 3-D screen illusion too....incredibly clever for 1979.

Pac-Man still rules after all these years, as does Ms.Pac Man. These will never go out of style and will always be wonderfully challanging to play.

Centipede is another upright i adore. It's awesome. I play the Atari cartridge Centipede a LOT...that and Joust are the ones i play the most. Defender too. Those games rock!

The STUPIDIST Atari 2600 games ever made are Combat and Warlords. They STINK!!!!

Smurf rocks though! :b

MMBBfan327
11-21-2005, 09:44 PM
Yeah, I'm a HUGE fan of Pole Position. In fact, I may start looking for an old cartidge of that (for collectible purposes. I collect a whole bunch of stuff :b ).

Also, I head a funny thing--

Back in the 70s when Space Invaders was first introduced in Japan, young kids were offened spotted breaking into stores just to play it.

Shiney Happy Jenn
11-28-2005, 10:18 PM
Space Invaders was flipping HUGE back in the day. It was the first really huge hit video game.

It was SI that made video gaming a industry. Without, we would be living in a totally different world right now.

Think of it as the "Pac Man' of the late 70's. I love the upright..it rocks. Love that background effect!

Lilredridinghood
11-29-2005, 09:43 PM
What was the upright?

Jenn, do you remember playing "Spaced Invaders" two summers ago at Salem Willows with uh....hee hee. I so wish I brought my camera then!

Or was that Pac-Man you guys where playing?

MMBBfan327
11-30-2005, 06:43 PM
I believe an upright is the actual arcade machine (like at CEC or other arcades).

Lilredridinghood
12-01-2005, 05:56 PM
Oh, but of course! Thanks for the info!

Shiney Happy Jenn
12-01-2005, 06:09 PM
Yeah..a "upright" is a term used in the arcades to describe that type of machine.

It was "Galaxian" that i played with Air that night at Salem Willows. He was good considering he probably has'nt played this game since the early 80's. I forgot who won...i think i did!

Lilredridinghood
12-01-2005, 06:14 PM
Oh was it "Galaxian?" I could have sworn it was either "Spaced Invaders," or "Pac-Man." Oh well.

Boston tomorrow! Wee!

MMBBfan327
12-01-2005, 09:41 PM
Galaxian was super cool! I have it on a cool PlayStation 1 game I have. VERY advanced Space Invaders.

12-05-2005, 01:30 AM
You guys should check out gametap.com. I just found it the other day and then today I saw a commercial for it. It's video game heaven on classic stuff. Unfortunately it is not a free site and even to get the trial you must have a credit card but I have been playing games on there like crazy.

MMBBfan327
12-05-2005, 04:50 PM
Damn, no credit card here. :(

So Captain...what you are saying is that there is a website where you can sign up and pay to play Classic Arcade games?? Sweet!!

Two questions: The COST to do so, and what are the games? Do the games closely resemble the "originals"...or are these cheesy rip offs?

Awesome news..thanks for sharing!

MMBBfan327
12-07-2005, 09:07 PM
I found a cool site where u can play ORIGINAL NES games for free, however the sound is crappy, and some NES games aren't there. I also found one with the original SMB game.

Who here agrees that "Galaxian" is WAAAAY better than "Galaga?"

Shiney Happy Jenn
01-01-2006, 07:52 PM
"Galaxian" kicks shell. Period!

It doesnt get any better then that....at least when it comes to flying insect-shaped space ships attacking you!

captslappy
01-01-2006, 10:05 PM
I agree too! Galaxian is much better. I got an atari flashback II for Christmas and it has several prototype sequels that were never released including Adventure II, Combat II and a few others. I love this thing! I also got a joystick with Ms. Pacman on it. Regular pacman is on gametap.com but it really sucks trying to play using the keyboard. That's one you gotta use a joystick on!

MMBBfan327
01-01-2006, 10:28 PM
Is your Ms. Pac-Man thing blue with a joystick that has a yellow top on it? I have that, too. It has this cool game "Xeovious" or something.

Shiney Happy Jenn
01-01-2006, 11:08 PM
As far as i'm concerned. ALL video games should be played with a joystick. This pushing of buttons crap is stupid stupid STUPID! I hate Nintendo for that alone....

I have tried playing "modern" games and even a couple of PC games but can't get anywhere with the lame controls...how he heck one can control a character with a multitude of buttons is sadly beyond me. I have a awesome LOTR's PC game a really like to play but its incredibly frustrating for me as i am so used to feeling the stick in my hand to direct the figure around. Buttons on a keyboard ( or a keypad) SUCK! I guess i've played too much Atari over these 25 years.....

I know there are modern joysticks out there that you can buy and plug into your PC to use...but i have'nt a clue as to how to go about getting one for my machine. I'm really clueless when it comes to anything "modern" really....:p

Lilredridinghood
01-03-2006, 12:45 PM
Adventure II? That is very, very cool as "Adventure" was one of my favorites...

captslappy
01-03-2006, 07:18 PM
Yeah me too. Adventure is a major favorite. The sequel alone makes it work buying the flash back II. It is really hard though but the kingdom has more to it and there are more dragons and castles. It really takes you in circles for awhile tho to find the other stuff. It can get really frustrating.

Shiney Happy Jenn
01-03-2006, 11:40 PM
Ah ..but getting frustrated is one of the hallmarks of a good game! :p

captslappy
01-04-2006, 10:17 AM
I'm telling you that game alone makes it worth buying. It has so many great games. Haunted House, Maze Craze, Combat, Combat II... just too many to list and a few unreleased prototypes as well. I think this is worth owning over the original unit. Between that and gametap.com I am pretty well set. I think so far Donkey Kong is all that I am missing I really want. It will probably either show up on Gametap.com eventually or in a joystick with games in it. If not, it may well justify my purchase of an upright arcade machine for my collection.

Lilredridinghood
01-04-2006, 03:35 PM
Oh, Haunted House was another game I enjoyed! Now if they would only come out with a C64 flashback, then I would be all set....

i love my nes, i play it more than my ps2 lol. the only thing i dont like about it is... has anyone ever gotten the games to work the first time you put them into the machine?? lol it takes me forever to make them work anymore. i have about 20 games for it, i'd like to get more. i like playing anticipation, its like pictionary with dots and no one wants to play me at it anymore cuz i know what the puzzle will be just by the dots :\

MMBBfan327
01-08-2006, 11:56 AM
Hmm...Anticipation...I might know what that is. On the cartridge does it show these people smiling and waving? And there's a tall guy with glasses?

The ShowBizWolf
01-08-2006, 04:22 PM
omg yeah they look like they are having THE time of thier lives playing this game. theres only like... 2 people actually playing the game, and theres like 10 people on the cover lol. anticipation is written in green on a white background.

Lilredridinghood
01-11-2006, 05:11 PM
has anyone gotten the games to work the first time you put them into the machine??

Hey Britt, I seem to remember my brother's NES doing that...I would sometimes have to re-enter the game and then it would work...

The ShowBizWolf
01-11-2006, 06:51 PM
yeah, ive had to like take them out and clean them and then put them back in and hit reset like 500 times, busticate the machine offa the wall, throw it out the window, go down to the street and pick it up and plug it back in and then it MIGHT work ha ha.

I consider myself by far a retro-gamer. While I do enjoy playing seventh generation console games such as Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and Trauma Center: Second Opinion, I find ever chance to turn back the clock to 1985, 1989, 1993, or 1996...whatever the approximate video game era.

I still have all my old systems and original cartridges (and game enhancers) in addition to emulators on my laptop and flash carts occupying my GBA SP's. I also have emulators for my PSP (1.5 firmware).

Lately now days I find myself downloading games for Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console. Out of the NES games, I'd say I play Punch-Out the most. Out of the SNES games, I play Sim City and Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past the most. Out of the Genesis games, I lean toward Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Spinball. For TurboGrafx-16, Alien Crush is what I play most often.
And for N-64, hands down, Star Fox 64. As for Wii being backwards compatable with Gamecube games, I most often play Mega Man Anniversary Collection and Mega Man X Collection.

Wow...Nintendo 64 is now considered a "classic" system. *Suddenly feels old...but still hardcore old-school, baby!*
