What would happen if you played a Rock-afire show on a CEC 3-stage? I'd imagine it could be possible. The only thing is, Pasqually would be running off of Billy Bob's air line, Helen would be running off of Dook's air line, and that just leaves Mitzi's line on its own. So maybe Pasqually would be singing along with Billy Bob and Helen would be singing in Dook's voice (eerie to think about! :lol ).

Or vice versa, if you played a 3-stage show on the Rock-afire stage. Mitzi would probably just be standing there, staring into space, while Dook sings in Helen's voice. :rollin ...Kaittt's drawing comes to mind, except Helen has Dook in a chokehold, saying "That's MY voice, b***h!" Actually, maybe that wouldn't work out. Fswah. *runs out*

First off, certain protections prevent the tapes from being played but yes it is possible. The air line has nothing to do with it. What determines who does what is based on where the computer cable is plugged into on the computer. All the air line does is provide air to the show and each valve bank. the computer cable is what determines when the mac valves open and close which is what makes each movement work.

Here were the reassignments:

Chuck=Rolfe
Helen=Dook
Munch=Fatz
Jasper=Beach Bear
Unassigned= Mitzi
Pasqually=Billy Bob
Pizza Cam= Looney Bird
Wink=spider
moon=moon
building=sun
Baby Munch=Choo Choo

So if you ran an old showbiz show tape on the MMBB eprom if you defeated the security that ejects the tape Chuck would do Rolfe's part and look at his hand for Rolfe. Obviously, there is no Earl so those movements would have no affect. Helen would do Dooks parts. Her facial movemetns would match up but further down the line her movements would not make sense and look a little weird. Munch and Fatz adn the organ would match up exactly. Nothing would happen for Mitzi's parts. Jasper would do Beach Bear perfectly. Facial movements aside Pasqually would probably look pretty weird as Billy Bob's movements are very different. Pizza Cam would do Looney's parts correctly. The props would match up except for the spider and anytime he dropped the wink would blink a lot. Otherwise, it would sit idle as the spider was not used much outside of B-day shows. The erratic movements could be easily corrected by plugging Helen back into Mitzi's place and Pasqually back into Dook. THen the show would more or less work like the Rock-afire, but obviously there would be no Billy Bob.

Actually, they switched the cables only because of the change in character placement. But they switched them at the bank, and at the computer, meaning the change would not affect anything. Pasqually is still Dook, and Helen is still Mitzi.

This is sometimes confused by fans who have only seen the C.U. video, which just glosses over everything. If you read the actually C.U. manual, this fact is made clear.

Yeah teh way they explain it in the video is really really confusing as they say that Helen will now use Dook's old cable and Pasqually will now use Billy Bob's. No mention is ever made that the computer cables are switched on the computer. This does make sense though as each character spot had that # of movements assigned to it so pluggign the robots in other spots would not work regardless of any software problems.

That would be something to see MMBB being the Rockafire again. But as was said you have to defeat the Security chip. also most 3stages are DVD now and not VHS.. :cec_smile: even some of the older 3stage cec tapes would be cool to see.

My Mitzi was an ex-Helen changed back. Some characters do get switched back over. I had a Rolfe that still had blue eyes who had been changed back from CEC. It does happen.

Yeah Capt's right, sometimes they do get changed back (mostly at the fans level once we get the used mechs when CEC's finished with them).

Brian Hagan once told me that he had to change a Munch's Band back into a Rock-afire at a store once when the franchise went renegade from CEC. This was before he worked for Dept 18 and so far is the only instance I've ever heard of this happening at a store level.

Also, my Rock-afire has an interesting story. It was the only (known) mini show in the Funtime Pizza Chain. CEI did some how get a few MMBBs back. At some point the owner upgraded to a full show. The characters were all on one stage still but they added a used Beach Bear, Dook and Rolfe, all of which came out of a used MMBB show that CEI converted back. I have heard that they got 2 such shows back. These may have been customer provided. Unsure of the details. Also, my Mitzi which was not part of this particular show (I got her seperately) had previously been Helen Henny and was changed back.

When I worked at CEC I did this with one of the tapes. As a matter of fact the Kids show. But I did it around 9:30 p.m. when noone was in the building. It was weird to watch. Of course I had to open Pasqually's curtain. And he was performing as Dook. I got chewed out by the head tech the next day when someone was laughing talking about it. Not too much longer after that I tried to play some Rae tapes in there again and it wouldn't let me. I guess this is when they started doing the coding or however that worked.

I used to run old RAE cyberstar tapes right after Concept Unification. Everything worked like normal, except the characters and spot lights were in different locations on the stage.

yeah I remember Brian Hagen former Studio Manager for CEC saying he had tried that at one point. hhe said the tape worked for about 30 seconds and then stopped and spit out of the VCR.

Yeah you’re probably right. But all the show “tapes” are now DVD”s so we’ll never know!
