The original LOGO RAF valances were NEVER Produced in blue. green, purple.... Those are changes made after the SPP era. The first RAF valance did not have the characters on them.

Actually the first ones DID have the characters but this pic was taken in like '87 when the original Showbiz was already on it's way out the door(Showbiz and CEC were both going as "showbiz" at this point) and these plain valances were the latest thing... ;)

Correction Gabe,

The first shows (WP5 & RAF) had only plain red valances. No artwork of any kind.

This is the first show in Denver (Organ has 4 legs). It has red curtain valances with white trim.

This image was a promo shot from the "redesigned" RAF. This was most likely taken at CEI, and also shows the Red valances.

Hope that helps clear it up.

I've always liked the original plain red valance with white trim over the valance with the pictures and the blue valance that came out in 1986 I believe. I guess it's because it was the first and it was made in 1980 through the early 80's before the valance with the characters came out.

I know the valance on the CEC and 3 stage shows today were picked based on the color of the carpet did they do that even b4 CU on the 3 stage?

My SPP's were remodeled a few times before CU. The first time was in 1985, and the showrooms were transformed into dark caverns with indirect lighting. The Darien store had a "Hollywood" theme with large plywood stars with old actors pictures on them. They were lighted with colored flood lights that were "extended" out of the ceiling light cans.

Another franchise store in Bloomingdale was painted BLACK. Walls & Ceiling! A few character masks were mounted on the ceiling (Sun & Moon) and the show room was decorated in a "astronomy" theme. Black lights were installed in the "Balcony" area and were in full effect when the house lights were dimmed.

Then, when the first SPT remodel was done in the late 1980's, the Darien store was repainted to the light creme color with the colored R-B-G-Y border pattern. Windows were installed in the balcony, hanging pendant lights were installed over the tables, and any reminants of the original SPP were removed. The character valances were removed at this time. The Bloomingdale show was already closed by this time.

This might sound stupid, but I always loved the character valances. I can remember as a kid going straight into the showroom and during intermission I would stare at the valances (especially after just getting there). Just seeing those little character pics high up by the celing was enough to get me excited about what I was about to see.

Other than that I don't know what it was about them... just an aura they had I guess. It did bug me though that the Rolfe and Earl valance always hung over Liberty. I'm sure I saw that show more than any other, and as a kid that always threw me.

Honestly the character valances are cool. But I think I like the valances that dont have them on it better. Makes it seem more like a real show. With a little bit of wonder on whats behind the curtain. I remember when they changed ours in 83 or so to the character valances and CECPTT had just opened up a little earlier before they changed to these valances. I thought that Showbiz was trying to copy them putting there names up like that since PTT had there names underneath. Anyway...little flashback. If anyone out there has those original ones..which i'm sure noone does I am willing to trade the character valances mint for a set of the ones with no pictures on them. Snapperard@aol.com
