I heard it is a good book too....but i have not reas it, let alone see a copy of it in the bookshops.

Nothing can beat one of his first books though...the immortal "How To Be A Grouch". What a GREAT book! It was a short illustrated childrens' book released in the mid 70's by Whitman. It was not only written by Carroll, but also illustrated by him as well. VERY FUNNY and one of my faves to this day.

Richard, thanks a bunch for the pictures! They both arrived safely and now i have to figure out where to display them.

Yes, yes! I've read How to Be a Grouch, too! :] The Wisdom of Big Bird also includes illustrations by him. Both are VERY good books.

This is becoming destined for the "off topic" board, but on a related note - did anyone here pick up Old School Sesame Street vol 1 on DVD yet? I ran out and bought this on the day it was released and it's frickin awesome. And it's about time a collectors set of Sesame was released.

Granted I wasn't born till 1980 so this set predates my era by a bit, but I remember seeing a lot of it since they recycle so much stuff. :D

Anyway if you haven't bought or seen this yet, it's definetely worth getting.

I did! How about that orange Oscar? The original Gordon has hair! Best of all... no Elmo!

Oh yes! NO ELMO!! YAY!!!

Yeah, i grew up with the "original" Sesame Street. I remember Mister Hooper, and Big Bird looking skinny and all yellow ( no white forehead feathers). Good times.

Looney Bird holds up his Big Bird plush during the Rapid T. Rabbit interview as a little in joke and tribute to the man himself.

Jenn....my pleasure, anytime!

Kaitttt...I've known Caroll for well over 30 years, and I'm probably his biggest (oldest?) loyal fan. He is indeed a very special friend, and my only personal hero, as well as my inspiration to become a puppeteer and performer. Caroll even helped fund the RTR costume character. I get to see him usually once a year when he's here in New York taping a season of Sesame Street. He grew up in the Boston area, and lives on a farm that's literally on the CT-MA border, though he keeps a NYC apartment only for when he's working here.

Getting this thread back On Topic...Big Bird's name came up during my interview with Looney Bird when I mentioned to Looney the two things he has in common with my yellow feathered friend, they're both birds whose first names are adjectives!

Hey Richard...

In general, when does Sesame Street tape their show? I remember you mentioning it usually only shoots for a couple of weeks a year there in NY.

Can you give me some idea, based on past activity, what time of year they usually tape the show?

Rapid T Rabbit

Jen...

Based on their current 25-episode season, they shoot in NYC from like the end of October through first week December, with possible intervening breaks during that time frame.

Decades ago back when they shot a 150-episode season, they taped from September all the way to January. I used to be able to visit Caroll on the set twice during those years.

Yes I've been a fan of Sesame forever and honestly it's the only childrens show that I still like, I never watch the current episodes, I'm all about the old school stuff, not to mention Count Von Count, he's the best. I'm a huge fan of Bert, Ernie, Grover, Cookie Monster, Oscar The Grouch, Guy Smiley, Sherlock Hemlock, Herry Monster, and Big Bird too. The Count just beats out every single character though, he's awesome and always was and will be. A Fan Classic!

Yes I hate Elmo too, very much, But they seem to be calming down more on his huge media than a few years ago.

Aww, thank you Kaittt! Caroll's autographed picture is in the mail to you.

Speaking of which....this is really quite a coincidence! The picture above you just drew for me? Well when Caroll and I were having lunch together this past Wednesday, it occurred to me to ask him to draw you an autographed picture after he gave me this picture below for the 24th anniversary of my TV show. Look similar?...Considering I'm only showing it to you now.
