So gang...
Have we decided what hotel we are staying at now?
As i posted in the Official CV3 thread ( it's the place to be") Travis is working on the new CV3 site and we need to know!
Name it and it will be added! :)

I just posted about this in another thread before I saw this one. If you have not decided on your hotel you may all be better off staying closer to my place and maybe get something in Lewisville by 35 and 121. This depends on what we do. It might be more desirable if CECE is definately out. Of course if we do 6 Flags one day or somefin you are very close if you stay in Irving near CECE. We must do at least one CEC visit and the Irving and Arlington Feilder stores are teh only 2 worth seeing in my opinion and you'd be closer again if you all stay near CECE. Let me talk to the powers that be and see what the plan is for what we are doin'. Once we have a better itenerary I can advise you all a little better there.

Good advice Captain.
I myself would say let's go with a hotel near CECE. Even if we end up not going it would still be cool i think to stay near the property for those coming who have never been in the area. It's also close to the Irving CEC which we will definately be visiting.
We need to firm this up so Travis can launch the CV3 website page! Any suggestions for hotel?

I think Jenn has some good ideas as far why to stay near CECE. Also if the Irving store is close enough to walk to then it makes sense for us to meet up there there and use it as a hub to find one another when going to various places over the weekend (like we used Danvers for at the past events). I think this is a good idea incase we all don't stay at the same hotel or can't all stay together for some reason or another.
However, most of this is dependant on our ground transportation there. How are we doing this? Does anyone have a van that'll hold a group of people? How many people have cars and would be willing to pack them with people? Are we all going to have to drive ourselves? If moving a large group around the Dallas area is going to be an issue then it might be a better thought to pick a more centralized hotel that will make it easier to commute to the places we want to check out (the CECE building, Irving store, TJ's, Capt's house, etc).
I have a good portion of the CV3 site online if you guys want to go back and check that link out again. I need to get the hosts page done, the registration page, and the events page done, and it'll be ready to post. The hotel and DVDs page will have to wait awhile since we're a bit away from being able to wrap those up.
Any thoughts on ground transportation?

I would recommend something in the Grapevine area. Close to shopping and restaurants, not in the congestion, and not in the boonies either. That location puts you near the airport, and the site for the CV3 activities.
Mike you concure? IF you agree, I can do some foot work and get some hotel recomendations.

The only 2 two stages left in my area are Irving (actually a one stage) and the Arlington/Feilder store which last time I saw it was not in all that great of shape. As for the Red bird store it is not raelly very close to where we will be and it is in terrible shape from what I understand and that store is slated to be shut down late summer (july or aug) so it may well be gone by the time CV3 gets here. Everything else we have here is Studio C.

True gang....
I say go ahead and book wherever you want to stay. I think many folks are already going to be pretty spread apart as some of the fans coming are staying with local friends or family in the Lone Star State.
I myself will more then likely stay at the hotel Danny mentioned in the CV3 thread.....the one right next door to CECE. I forget the name of it.....guess i need to go re-read that thread again and find out!
So guys....book wherever you want...but keep in mind we will be using the Irving CEC as the main gathering point so you may want to book something close by to that location. There are loads of hotels along Airport Freeway in Irving....you have a wide price selection to choose from and i beleive all the major hotel names as well.
I will post what hotel i will be at for those that wish to stay where i am once i have booked. I need to find Danny's info again!

05-22-2006, 07:29 PM
Alright...it's official now.
I will be staying at the Clarion Hotel. I have'nt booked yet, but will soon....i am certain this is the place i will be.
It's right next to CECE...it's address is 4440 W Airport Fwy! How much closer can ya get??
The price: Only $69.00 per night when you book through Travelocity.com.
Find more info here: www.travelocity.com (http://www.travelocity.com)
Just type in "DFW" for destination, "TX" for state ( duh!), and your check in/out dates along with how many people per room. Click the search feature and a huge list of 99 hotels comes up. Narrow the search by clicking the "Search be Hotel Name" link and you will come to a list showing full details about the Clarion.
Does'nt look fancy, but it will suit my needs i think. Anyone else wanting to stay at the same location go for it!

Alright....i have just taken a closer look at the interactive map showing exactly where this hotel is....and it looks like it's NOT 'right next door" to CECE.

It sounds like a "CEC Crawl" ( aka "Hopping") is gaining some interest.
This i find surprising as i did'nt think it would be of much interest this time around.
As mentioned previously....the past two CV's up here in MA have incorporated a "CEC Crawl"..usually done on the Saturday. It's great fun to spend a few hours visiting as many CEC's as you can just to check them out and appreciate the little differences they all have, at least that was the case up in these parts ( we have many old locations).
The reason i think a "Crawl" in the Irving area was dismissed is that the word is most stores in TX are carbon copies of each other with poorly maintained shows in many locations. What i mean by that is going to various stores would be pointless as they are all recently remodeled and everything looks exactly the same. However, if enough interest abounds then i don't see why we can't do a "Crawl" at some point.
We still really need to firm up what we all want to do on SATURDAY. Are we up for doing a Park? A "Crawl"? Any other ideas?
June is upon us folks...which mean time is ticking faster and faster away until the big weekend! We need to hear what YOU , the Fans, want to do!
Remember...it's the FANS that make CV what it is....not nessesarily the Event itself!

Well there are mostly Studio C's in the Dallas area but there are suposedly 2 "stages" left besides the Irving store...one other store's a 2-stage and the Richardson one I plan to attend is a 3-stage. So normally a CEC hop in Dallas would be kinda bleh but...now there's more of a reason...for me at least.
captslappy
06-02-2006, 11:10 AM
Yeah... there are really only 2 stores worth seeing here. Understand that this is the heart of CEC territory. All of the changes and remodels happen in DFW first since corporate is so close by. I don't know all the remodel jargon but everything has been done to phase IV or V or whatever it is called. Everything is cookie cutter identical mostly. Any historic hints of what used to be a showbiz or former PTT are LONG gone. You don't see things and say "Oh look! That's where the King was" or anything like that. In fact, many of the stores that were actually showbiz or PTT locations have moved to newer buildings and many were newly opened locations with no history. Basically, Irving is the "test" location store and it has a really good one stage. Very worth going to. Jenn has been there. Then there is Arlington/Fielder at the other end of 360. Its a former PTT that had King but his lounge is long gone. It's a 2 stage and last I saw it it was pretty crappy. You will see CECs on every street corner here, but they are pretty much "you see one, you have seen them all." Irving is up to date on the remodeling but does have neat things like a talking coke machine and a good cyberamic show. Red Bird where the last 3 stage in Dallas is is quite a haul from where you guys will be staying and it is about to close permanently. Projected date last I heard was late July or early Aug. I'll follow up on that soon. It may not be open by the time you get here. My suggestion is if you want to do "CEC crawls" is to just do Irving and Arlington/Feilder. I have quite a few surprises at my house and I have a feeling most everyone will want to spend the majority of whatever day we are here watching shows here. I am almost done getting everything functional. In fact, I may have it all operational by the end of next week! We could spend an entire day just at my house alone and I dont think anyone would be disappointed in doing that. I'll talk more with Jenn about our activities, but really I think all of you will find hopping from CEC to CEC to be a waste of time and gas. This is Jenn's shin-dig as she and J created CV so I am only making suggestions and providing facilities. I'm letting her make the decisions. I do think this will be a very different CV from those in past years so we may to put past CVs out of mind and think of this one like it's the first one ever done.

I'm all for hanging out.
1. I'm a lazy fat-ass who doesn't go outside unless the house is on fire.
2. If we are having a "CEC/PTT" convention, it makes sense to spend most of the time doing things relating to the hobby. I'd much rather bull**** with Gabe an Mike and the rest of you over some cold beer than go to a generic tourist spot.
3. See #1.
BTW, is there anything I should bring other than myself? I don't know if this matters or not, but if I have any videos or manuals or merch/similar stuff that anyone would like to see in person, I will try to bring it, but I can't just stick everything I have in a box.

Well heck yeah Billy Bob!! Bring all you can as we plan on having some tables set up where we can display collectibles and other items of related interest. I plan on bringing s couple of my photo albums, and some rare videos i have. I encourage EVERYONE coming to bring something with you to nclude in the display! CV is all about the fans, and it's the fans that make the Event what it is....we WANT you to be a part of it and would love to see what tresures you have!
Clarion is the hotel i plan on rooming in. I do not have confirmation yet as to WHERE exactly it is in relation to CECE..i get different stories. Does anyone know? Is is actually right next door, or across the street? I think i remember asking this before...but forget what the eventual answer was ( if there was one). Fans are welcome to room wherever they wish, but if you would like to stay together then i recommend the Clarion simply because it is close to to the main meet up spot ( Irving CEC Location) and the room rates are reasonable too.
As far as the "CEC Crawl' goes. I have to agree with Mike in that doing one would be a bit pointless, only because of the areas' lack of "interesting" locations now. I agree that Arlington and Irving are the only "hot spots". Arlington i would like to see myself as that place goes waaaaayyyy back. I know not much of their past is still there, but just to be there and know where i'm standing would be cool. I say we stick to visiting those stores only, and maybe hit a 3-stager if possible.
Mike has been doing an incredible job getting all of his shows up and in running order. Just to clarify for those that may have missed.....the only PTT Guest we will have operational at CV3 will be Harmony Howlette at this point. Dolli will also be there working...folks may recall she was first displayed at CV2 after being recently restored and resurfaced by myself at the Captain's request. She was a star that day and i'm sure she will be doubly so this year since she will actually be running! Awesome!!
Yes, please bring your collectibles, photos, or any other itmes of interest with you! The more the merrier as they say....
Also someone has recently contacted me about rooming with them. If anyone would be willing to room with someone let yourself known! Nevin is looking for a roomie!

Yeah sorry on the 3 stage thing it is the Richardson store that still has the 3 stage and this one is closing soon. Redbird went to studio C awhile ago. Richardson's days are numbered and they know it. The store is hard to find and I have heard it is dirty, the employees are rude and don't give a rat's ass as they know in a few months the place is going to be shut down permanently and the show and most of the games are in poor condition or not working. I will do further research on this if anyone really really wants to go that badly but understand this is quite a haul from where you guys will be staying and will kill a lot of our time going to and from and I think most everyone will be VERY disappointed in what they see when they get there. I will do some scouting and research. Also, I still can't promise that the store will even be operational by the end of July. I know they are closing their doors in July or Aug. sometime.

When i booked, i noticed there is a option for choosing which rate you would like. I chose "internet users rate" as it's cheaper then anything else i saw on any of the other travel sites. My final rate per night ( not including TX taxes) is $62.10 per night. That works out to about $187+ for 3 nights....not too bad. I just hope this place is'nt a dump....i have had some experiences already in TX!
I have also booked my flight now. I'm coming in on Amercian Airlines from Boston in the late afternoon. I'm flying back that Sunday early in the morning ( i had choice due to the ridiculous rates right now).
So it's official now folks...so book your rooms!! :D
