View Full Version : CV3 1/2 - - the "other" Event!

Hi folks....
Now that the dates and the location of this years CheeseVention have been announced, a few of you may be feeling a little glum thinking you are not going to be able to make it all the way to TX to take part in a Fan Event.
Well, we don't want those that live up in the Northeast to feel "leftout" so J and i have discussed the possibilty of having a small, low key gathering AFTER Cv3. I'm calling it CV3 1/2.....and this would be a fun day to meet up and hang out enjoying some CEC visits and maybe even get our characters friends involved.
So what's everyone thoughts on this?
J and i will be getting togther this week to talk more about this...so any ideas or suggestions would be a great way to start us off!.
CV3 will be a entirely different event when compared to the other past two conventions simply because J and I cannot bring our vast collections and show materials all the way to TX. We also will be having CV3 at a private home, and not a huge hall which also contributes to some changes. Costume characters will not be as heavily involved as previously due to the fact they are all in MA! But this will be a "plus" for the MA get together...
So what do you Northeastern fans think? Would anyone come to such a thing....would it be worth putting togther?
Again, keep in mind that this is NOT another full blown CV Event....just a fun little excuse to get together, talk non-stop CEC/Showbiz and indulge in some Live Show performances with all our "friends"!

Walkarounds? We don't need no stinkin' walk arounds! Hey we have 20 robots! How we will make room for all the robots and all the guests is our next problem... ok everyone really start dieting if you are coming! It's going to be a tight fit!:rollin

Just flip flop. Last time CV 1.5 was here and you did CV 2 there so just reverse 'em!

Well yeah..i suppose that makes sense.
Back in the Summer of 04' when Mix invited me down to CECE it was a few days before the first CheeseVention here in MA. So i guess our little get-togther there back then could be called a sort of "Pre-CV"!
CV happened....then the follow up was CV2. Now here we are in 2006 with CV3 looming on the horizon, to be quickly followed by a "sequel" ...CV 3 1/2! Ha!

CV3 1/2 should be a couple months after cv3. it can showcase some videos of the main cv3 events. (im not talking full blown edited footage. just some fun videos pieced together). it can also take place in more than one area. like a ma, ca, fl, il type thing for locals to meet up in each "hub".
Shiney Happy Jenn
02-12-2006, 01:41 PM
CV 3 1/2 would be a gathering of fans post-CV3 up here in MA. More then likely we will meet up in Shiney Happy Danvers and spend some time there enjoying the sights and sounds as well as some food.
Afterwards, if we are able to secure the old CV Hall, we will go there and perfom some Live Shows, have the characters appear for photos, and maybe view some videos. This would be a low-key event...no huge elaborate displays and such.
Anyone is welcome to attend....it was created to help ease the dissapointment some local fans may be feeling now that CV has moved to TX for this season.

(Is that supposed to be like "The Lion King 1-1/2"?) heh
Anyway, I would be interested in attending a little Northeast gathering, if the timing worked out.
I'm not sure at this point whether or not I'll be going to CV3 in Texas, much as it looks tempting. Aside from it being more expensive for to travel down there, the late July dates could be a problem too, as I am expecting a visitor from the UK around that same time who is coming to the USA to work on some Care Bear projects with me.
I'm also finding I am having mixed feelings about touring CEC headquarters in Irving. On one hand, I would love to see everything behind the scenes with regards to the company.....but on the other hand, I still cannot help feeling a little sad and somewhat bitter that the company took Chuck E. away from me when they bought out the U-NJ franchise and converted it from Store #3006 to #542 over two years ago. And I still have bad memories of my encounter with Jon Rice at the Liscensing Expo trade show here in New York some years ago.

In addition to going to CECE hopefully and checking out the Irving Tx store (it has the cyberamic 1 stage and ideas are often test marketed here that are not seen in other locations) another thing fans will really have a chance to look forward to is watching my personal Rock-afire Explosion, my Pizza Time Theater Balcony show with Harmony Howlette and a working and fully restored Dolli Dimples robot. All of these robots are in my home as part of my personal collection. This is a great chance for those of you that grew up with this stuff and haven't seen it in years or for those of you too young to have had a chance to see it.

02-15-2006, 09:33 PM
That's right folks...The Captain has been busy!
Those who attended CV2 here in Salem last year may remember Dolli Dimples....the very same Dolli that was at CV2 will be at CV3 but this time she will be a WORKING figure and not just a display! She was here last year as a special Guest as i had just completed a extensive restoration on her for The Captain.
Harmony Howlette, The King.....classic Balcony character galore..plus a full RAE that performs classic shows will be only some of the fab attractions we have lined up for everyone. The Captain has done a incredible job getting this stuff up and running for CV3 and his collection will leave you in awe. No where else will you be able to see a display like this, with all these operating animatronic characters from the past! Talk about awesome.....
Oh ...and of course, we have a SPECIAL GUEST! As regular attendees know, every year we have a Special surprise Guest and this year is no different. We already have one lined up for you! We won't reveal who it is until it gets nearer to the Event. but you can have fun trying to guess who it is!

full RAE
actually he no longer has Rolfe & Earl & I don't think hbe has Beach Bear
captslappy
02-15-2006, 10:50 PM
I got another R&E and I do have Beach Bear and Dook. Its not really a full RAE tho. I do not have the sun, moon, spider, choo choo, curtains, lighting or scenery for center stage or R&E. It's still cool but it isn't quite like seeing the real deal at Showbiz. I don't think anyone will be disppointed. Plus there is Dolli and the balcony stage. If you never got to see'em this is your chance and if you have I know it's probably been about 15 or 20 years. I have King cosmetics but not the robot. I can't guarantee he'll be here but Harmony and Madame Oink will be for sure!
pizzacam
02-16-2006, 11:05 AM
Yeah, We traded his Pasqually for my Beach Bear...though I love the RAE I have more CEC stuff so I wanted a MMBB character :)

02-16-2006, 11:44 AM
The Billy Bob stage is pretty close to what you'd see on a "standard" RAE show so you'll at least get to see that much. I just didn't have room to do the prop stuff and set up the scenery for the other 2 stages. Keep in mind this stuff is really large and isn't intended to go in a house. Unless you have a special room built specifically for the 45 foot stage then its really hard to set it up as intended, especially when there is a balcony stage in the same room with it.
Shiney Happy Jenn
02-16-2006, 06:50 PM
Yes, The Captians' Billy Bob stage is very impressive. It looks authentic minus curtains or stage lights...but the animatronics are new and he looks great in action!
I'm very excited that we will be having working CEC/ CEI animatronics at this years Event. After two years of "static" standstill displays, we now will be able to see and HEAR these wonderul characters of the past again!

Actually I want to keep this low key as possible. The neighbors don't know I have all this stuff and I try very hard to keep it that way. Since this board is about this very topic and most everyone is out of state I'm not too worried about it getting around locally plus I am extending the invitation to those attending CV3. What I don't want is people who aren't fans finding out because I want to avoid friends of friends of friends of freinds calling me up and saying "Hey a friend of mine heard from Bob that knows Sally who knows your friend Joe and I heard you have these big robot animal things. Can I come over and see them?" People can be nosey about things. Also, people tend to run their mouths and I know people that know some shady people who might run their mouths to some less than honest people who get the idea that I must have a lot of money because of the shows and then decide to burglarize me as a result. My close friends all know not to say anything. I do have one friend that as soon as he got wind of this blabbed it to a bunch of people I didn't know anything about which brought about the above situation when I first got the stuff. Basically the neighbors won't be an issue. If we happen to hang out late which is fine, I dont think we will really have an issue with the noise. I live on a corner lot so volume hasn't really ever been an issue.

02-17-2006, 09:28 PM
Very valid and important info there Mike....
At this point i think i can say that just as we did last year, the EXACT location of where the festivities will take place will NOY be publically posted on here for the above concerns.
Last year this was done to keep certain 'uninvited" party poopers away from the main CV2 activities. This year the CV3 location address will also be kept private and only sent to attendees via email when registration begins in the upcoming months. I think we owe The Captain some peace of mind when it comes to this sort of security, as he has generously offered and agreed to co-host CV3.
Co-hosting a CV is NOT easy...trust me on this! I think this move will help ease some of the worry.

02-17-2006, 09:32 PM
Im not really worried. I just don't want a lot of outsiders knowing is all. I just mainly don't want it getting around the neighborhood most importantly.

GREAT NEWS Folks!!
J and i have decided on the dates for CV3 1/2!!!!
Heres the dates:
August 25/26/27 ( Friday/Saturday.Sunday)
The plan so far is to meet up for Dinner on Friday night in Shiney Happy Danvers. On Saturday, we depart for a fun trip out to Six Flags Theme Park right here in MA.
On Sunday, we top off the weekend with a visit to the Springfield, Ma CEC which is the ONLY location in this part of the country that has a 3-stage show still in operation! Yes...this store originally opened as a Showbiz ages ago....so these are ex-RAE Bots' we will be seeing.
Folks traveling from afar are welcome to book a room at the official hotel of CEC Happenings...the Days Inn on Endicott Drive. The rates are pretty reasonable and anyone who has attended the past two CheeseVentions will know this hotel well.
This event is more of a fun excuse for fans to get together and WILL NOT be a huge display-laden event like the previous showcase J and I put on up here last year for CV2.
CV3 1/2 is a nice little fun together for those who are not able to make it to Texas for the official CV3 Event. You can still come out and enjoy a day at the Park and the Springfield resturant for some laughs!
Who knows...maybe we can lure Chuck E. out to do some Live Shows for us while we are out there.....

Hi gang, its been a while! But Ive been here, just really busy with RL. But Im here to say that CV 3 1/2 (while it wont be as exciting as CV in TX) will still be a fun filled weekend!
The 6 flags here used to be riverside park back untill the 90's and was a really cool park. There are still few remnents left for those nastalga bugs that like that stuff. Cheryl, Jenn and I will need to start a list of whos coming as I can get discount tickets thru my local AAA office. As we get closer I'll post prices and I'll have to ask that you send me a check for the tickets.
Im hoping we will still get a few of the regulars out here.... Richard, Matt, Tom. I know that Danny and Marge probably wont make it out, and Id love to have Nevin back. Travis and Sandy...if theres any way you can make it, please do! And if our friends from Ct can make it!
Lets start a roll call!
Looking forward to August!

As we get closer to the weekend, plans are starting to be made. I am checking on hotels in the area na dpricing for the park. Our weekend is July 14,15 & 16
We will be meeting Fri in Danvrs for dinner, then Sat we will head to SFNE in Springfield, and Sun to CEC in springfield(old showbiz local)
I need to know whos coming and whos staying at the hotel Sat night so I can find out prices. I will try and get discount tickets for the park thru my AAA membership, so I will need $$ up front. I'll let you know how much. So far the only confirms are Me, Cheryl and Richard.
Jenn, Tom, Matt, any one else thinking about attending? You dont need to spend the night out there, if you want to come to the park for the day that would be great!
There is a good possibility i WON'T be able to stay at the hotel Saturday night :\
I'll let ya know if that changed though :)

A fab, but exusting weekend of fun it was...
Our little Pre-CV Meetup here in MA went well.....and i don't think Richard really wanted to return home to NY! Richard man...why not just move up here to MA??? Ha ha!!
Well anyway, we had a great time. Friday night we all showed up at Shiney Happy Danvers for some good ol' days type of fun with Chuck E. himself welcoming us back with open arms. It was NICE...! We were there for about 4/5 hours that night, partying like crazy doing various Live Shows in the Showroom in front of the stunned audience ( including a Birthday Party that was booked for the night). At one point the Hostess just gave up as she realized we were doing a better job at the Lives then she could of in that situation! Ha! It was great! I'm sure those party guests were scratching there heads in wonder as to WHO the heck these 'people" were doing the entertainment. It was more then obvious we were "Chuck E's Fan Club". Best of all is we captured most of the mayhem on tape via video cameras...YES!! Look for it as Bonus Footage on a forthcoming DVD release...more then likely "CV3".
Later that night i had a nice chat with the GM about New Merch, and the Company and how things are handled these days. Turns out he agrees with most of us die-hard fans here: CEC of the past is far better then today's efforts and corporate mentality. It's good that at least people out in the field are AWARE of this....this can only be for the better!
Sadly we dissapointed the Danvers Staff by NOT performing out Traditional "Parking Lot Live Show" ( though we DID blast the "Original CEC March) from the car before departing the lot). We were far too pooped after all the perfomances and needed to sleep off the soda and cake frosting.....Yep, cake was even availble for us since we were Chuck E.'s special pals!
Saturday we awoke bright and early to spend about 3 hours or so driving up to Glen, NH. This is a small town nestled within the famous White Mountian Region. Here we came to visit "Story Land", a well known and popular childrens' theme park ala DisneyLand, but based on Classic Fairy Tale and Mother Goose tales and characters. Check our there website here: www.storylandnh.com (http://www.storylandnh.com) Last time i was here was in 1977 or so...Richard was here about 20 years ago!
We stayed at a quaint and very nostalgic old time Motor Lodge. It was a nice area to be in, with a running river out back and a authentic and rare covered bridge a short walk away. We spent Saturday night here....
The next morning we awoke and had breakfast across the street at the Red Fox, a fancy but nice resturant that served a cool Jazz Breakfast Brunch for $7 a person! Yummy foos selction was enjoyed by all...with non-stop talk about all topics imaginable.
We then started the long trek back to MA...jumping in the hot van to experience bad roads, slow traffic, and eyefulls of Roadside Amerciana you can only see in these wild parts. It's a bit of a touristy area, being close to Concord and the various other NH attractions. Thomas the Tank Engine was appearing at the North Conway Railroad station so of course that caused many more people to be around the area then usual.
Along the way back home we stopped by the infamous Newington NH Chuck E. Cheese's to check out it's recent remodel. As fans may know, Newington was a rare store in that before the remodel, many of it's earlier decor and materials were still in use. Also, the building itself is very odd...and features some trademarks associated with late 70's/ very early 80's PTT's of the time ( walkaround salad bar, walkaround cash/merch stand).
Despite the recent upgrade, and the removal and destruction of many older dcorative items ( including it's famous mid 80's "script" CEC Sign on the building itself..) the NEW NEWIngton looks far better then it ever has in ages. I have to say that the Phase 4 remodel here helps the building a LOT and i was very pleased with what had been done. Photos were taken of the new signage, and some of the inner building signage. Giant "tokens" are mounted on walls, including a huge one near the entrance that entices Guests to "rub me for good luck!"
The original Parody Poster are of course gone, but in there place is some snazzy new "paintings that looks bright and neat. The Showroom signage did not appeal to me however...very lame as it shows "paintings" of various PC-friendly families together at CEC, with one picture including Chuck E with a group.
The game package was very nice, finally Corporate has wised up and is putting some "classic" era games BACK into the Phase 4 stores. Both Ms.Pac Man and Space Invaders ( new "retro" machines) were spotted, as well as "Elvis" Pinball! Great to see these gems back in action...now at least the parents can play something too for once!
All in all Newington was very nice. As much as i hate to lose all the memories connected with what is currently still at Danvers, i honestly have to say i look forward to the remodel here. When i first visited Irving's CEC in 2004 and saw the new look for the first time, i really liked and thought it a winner. It's fresh and bright, and just what the concept needs now.
After Newignton, we headed over to the local Bugaboo Creek Streakhouse ( they have Animatronics..!!). Here we had Lunch, and more chat.
Now we finally crossed the border back into MA and headed over to Boston to drop off Richard at the Airport. He did not want to leave!
Afterwards J and Cheryl and I went to a adult arcade near where i live called "Big Blast" to look around. Not a place neither of us expect to last long...they have pool tables which is cool..but what they REALLY need is a Rock-aFire Show!
:D

Just to add a few things to the above reports... yes Chuck was punched rather hard in the area of my stiches... I had some cramping later that night, but I am ok... I reported it to the GM and he went and talked to the family. I normally would just suck it up, but it hurt!
Thanks to all of you, Matt, TOm, Jenn, Richard, and CHeryl for making it a really fun night at Danvers. Lets do it more often!
Storyland was great,it was really hot. Jenn and I rode the tilt a whirl, and we were both "in character" as Looney bird talking about how the spins feel just what its like in his barrel after some 120 proof gasahol! It was really funny.
We caught the 2 bigger animatronic shows Farm Follys and Circus World. THe girl at Circus world, even remembered me from last year! The show uses old Circus Playhouse music and I was singing along....
Cheryl, Jenn and I left Richard on the carousel for over an hour as we toured hte park. We rode the "Floating" horses pumpkin coach up to see cinderella, saw the Los Brovos Mine, and rode the pirate ship boat to the blackbeards cove.
I am really sorry our Air conditioner was out of ordr in the van..(sorry guys) but all in all I think we had a great time.
On a final note... Richard was dropped off around 5pm for a 8:45 flight(I was really tired by this point) I know he didnt want to leave, and I hated droping him off so early... but I really was pooped.

Thank you too J, Cheryl and Jenn for the absolutely wonderful weekend I had and taking me to StoryLand!

Riding this carousel again at StoryLand was something I'd been looking forward to for years! This is a rare one and only one other like it exists in the world today in Munich, Germany (which was seen in the movie "Carnival Girl"). What really makes it exciting is that the horses have the classic German springer stands, so to make them gallop you have to urge them on by bouncing up and down in the saddle and push on the irons with your feet to get your horse to rock back and forth. It's really a lot involved to ride but it's the most fun exercise I'll ever get. Also despite the pay-one-price admission at StoryLand, during my past two visits years ago, they only let me ride the carousel at most three or four times, so I was so happy that on this visit I got to ride fifteen times for over an hour! J actually went through the trouble to calculate what my cost per ride was LOL.
Here is the info on the ride from the National Carousel Association (http://nca-usa.org/):
