Hey I'm wondering why didn't we just open them with a cylander like the sun and moon had? I rember those dang things broke down so much wouldn't it have worked better?

It wouldn't work. Remember that the Cylinder has to be able to travel the same distance as the desired movement. The Antioch spider mech had to be as long as the distance Antioch would travel from the ceiling downwards.

So, if the curtains were controlled with a cylinder it would either have to be a REALLY BIG Cylinder, or there would have to be an intricate pulley system to transfer the distance of the curtains to a shorter length for a cylinder.

Finally, the speed of the curtains would not be able to be properly regulated. It would be more maintenance and control than they are now.

I have seen some shows that used a pneumatic barrel device, to raise and lower the "Vertical Lift" style curtains. The ropes are attached to the bottom of the curtain and are attached every foot or so, going straight up. They all unite above the stage, and are wound around a spinning barrel or cylinder.

A pneumatic drive shaft rotates the barrel (basically a large tube) and the ropes wind around the tube. As it rotates, the curtain lifts from the bottom upwards. When the air is turned off, the tube unrolls, and the curtain falls to the stage powered by gravity.

Yea thats kind of what I meant I know u'd have to have like a tripple wound pulley for the difference:) wow that curtain sys u are talking about sounds neat ,i like the up lift style...
I never got to dissassemble one of the long travel cylanders,Who made those things? hmm why isn't my pic showing up beside my posts?

it's possible your not allowing us to see it once on the message board go to "My Control Center" go to "Edit Profile" & make sure the box next to "My Photo" is NOT checked otherwise no one will be able to see it.

Well damn this raises another question...Studio C is supposed to be so damn innovative and oooh god everyone loves it, it's "perfect"...They have the pnumatic curtain systems...ARE THOSE AS UNRELIABLE AS THE MOTOR SYSTEMS?? I can't believe it... If they're better WHY are they stopping the curtain's at the Studio C stores too?? man WTF!?LOL :lol :rolleyes >:

menutia is right. I used the cylinder from the sun/moon to control my stage curtains with some pulleys. Worked fine for my application but only because my stage was the small size, and I agree the the speed was hard and jumpy to control. Next time I will build my stage w/ a motor...

Well, maybe not Danny, I saw a photo recently of a store in Canada that had a half-body porch show and the video on the TV was the newer Chuck E. Shuffle logo! :eek

I'm not really into PTT, so I don't know the correct term- but my tech told me "Helen's on a swing..." at the Rockford, IL location. I asked if it was a franchise, and found out it used to be.. but has since been bought back by CEC. ;) Anyone have more info on this?

I can confirm that Rockford IL CEC still has the porch show. I was there last summer. Of course it barely worked...

LOL...it was the crappiest CEC I've ever seen. It was in this mall that was practically out of business, except for the CEC and a few other things. I don't even think the show was working. The audio was playing, but the characters just kept doing random movements. So probably not the best place for a meetup, although it does have the nostaligia

Of course it didn't have any windows :)
