I know that everyone thinks that CEC sucks these days but I just got back from TX helping dept 18 with some of the January 2006 show and thought I'd let you guys in on some of the songs that will be included

Culture Club - I'll Tumble For You
Loverboy - Working For The Weekend
Big Country - In A Big Country
The Monkeys - Daydream Believer
The Romantics - What I Like About You

And on a side note, I agree that there is no doubt room for improvement in the Entertainment at CEC and I strongly agree with most that has been said in previous posts. Having said that I think I should mention that Robert Ryan and Michael all work very hard to produce the shows. And considering the budget they have to work with, the manpower that they have, and not to mention all of the other job responsibilities they have outside of show production, I think they do a pretty darn good job. I know that when I worked there full time it was a matter of doing the best that you could with the time and resources that you had. All of those guys are way underpaid for the amount that they pull off.

Like I said before, I encourage everyone to email CEC through the guest feedback section on their website. They do get that email and most of the time they try to respond. If they start hearing the same thing from many of their guests I wouldn't doubt that it would cause them to take a second look at things, like Entertainment.

Sweet! I laughed when I read "I'll Tumble For You", because I was thinking of that not too long ago. "Daydream Believer" will be great, too!

Thanks for the news, Matt! ;)

WOW WHAT AN AWESOME SONG SELECTION FOR THE JANUARY 06 SHOWTAPE!:D And on a side note. I do miss the curtain activity with our three stage show. Even though they only have cec's curtain only closed now during intermission.:) And if anyone else is wondering. Yes he still does his random moves while his side is closed during intermission periods.

mix: The Monkees' "Sleepy Gene" song is called "Daydream Believer". And was "What I Like About You" originally a CEC live show song now getting regular CEC show treatment in early 2006?

Hey Darryl, I thought of the same thing, so I did some research and went into Jasper's Showtape Review (unlike most of you that don't look at that:lol :p ) and found that "What I Like About You" was on the Sept. 2001 show, and someone correct me if im wrong, I think it appeared on the Jan. 2002 show too.

To be honest, i think Mix has done a good thing coming on here and stating his opinion on this hotly debated matter.

As many of our readers know, i've not been shy about voicing my thoughts on the current state of operations at CECE. I think my comments in the "Curtain" thread and other places has some prime examples. I've also said in the past similar things that Mix touches upon here...exspecially regarding the guys at Dept 18 and what they have to put up with. I'm sure there are loads of things they would love to do...but simply can't because their hands are literally tied not to mention the Company pursestrings.

I feel compelled to state this: The general feeling of anger, dissapointment, and dissillusion that many fans have towards the Company these days in regards to the current status of the entertainment angle is not being directed towards Dept 18. We all know they work there bottoms' off and go through heck trying to produce a show every few months on a seemingly non-exsistant budget. I know they must have one of the hardest jobs to do...exspecially considering that the very Company they are working so hard for seems to not give a hoot about what they do! Talk about frustrating....

The hostile stance some fans feel is directed towards the Company itself. We know you guys in Dept 18 are pretty much in the same boat as us in a way...and i just wanted to make it clear that we as fans DO appreciate what you are able to do with what little you may have there in the end. It's the purseholders' fault i think...they don't seem to view the "big picture" it seems...just the all-important "bottom line".

I personally am furious as heck that CEC, a multi-million dollar company, invests so LITTLE of it's monsterous profits into the very thing that made CEC a succes to begin with...the "Entertainment" aspect of the concept. I've said it before but it bears repeating...CEC needs to stop investing in "opening 35+ more locations a year..." and start investing in it's entertainment, primarily the ONE thing that sets it apart from the compitition...the SHOW!!

I really do hope they wake up in time and get a view of the big picture soon...or it's curtains for the concept.

Wait..no, it's not curtains.....CEC no longer has those! :b

Wait..no, it's not curtains.....CEC no longer has those! lmfao that was great little comment at the end there. it hit a spot lol. nyways i have to agree they do need to focus a little more on the shows. cuz if you think about it kids go to see chuck e and his friends and watch them perform.

The curtain open/close signals are probably still being sent? So if Chuck E's curtain is still plugged in it will open and close.
If you guyz are talking about the three stage, the signals ARE still be sent wether the eprom is in or not. Now Studio C, no curtain signals were programmed at all, EXCEPT in the Fundraiser Spot. Since they used the old programming for that, the curtains still would close and open in the eprom wasn't in, but even if it is in, the curtain signal still goes, just the eprom stops in the signal from going through.

cuz if you think about it kids go to see chuck e and his friends and watch them perform.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!:rollin NOW THAT HIT THE SPOT!!!!!!!
If I were to take a poll, on how many kids actually watch 1 segment of the show, it would be 1 to 25. Kids come to play games and win prizes.

At most of the locations in the WI area, the kids really go for the show if they are under 10. After that, they just seem interested in being brats.

also ditch Eddie's B-day song. he can stay in the intermissions but that B-day song hs to GO.

Aaron
11-17-2005, 11:50 AM
Why ditch Birthday 2002?
In my opinion, it works better out here than the old
Birthday Star, and we can have more fun with it.

For example- you can pour in the ingedients
and mix it all up. You can get the top of the bowl
bottom, go really fast, go to the right or left...
there are so many choices with it that it's no wonder
you have moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas...
up out of their seats pouring in the ingredients
and mixing it all up.

Jenn saw how I did it down here- and we had
everyone in the showroom doing it. I perfer
Birthday 2002 over Birthday Star after watching it
over and over again. It used to sometimes get
boring- clap your hands, stop your feet... know what I mean?

Danny,

Look at it this way- the company's current outreach.
Who are they trying to attract? Do they want them
to memorize it and sing it at home until someone takes
them back there? Absolutely. There's so many
possibilities with the song, just has to be done right.

The problem with Birthday Star that we found here
was too much repitition. With this one, we can add
different dances for each "Na, na, na, na, na" where as
before we found no other way to make a B-day Star
a decent show without the screaming of "Happy" and
"Birthday"

I'm all for Bake a Cake- but Birthday Star is a good
song to use in the background as you sing to your
individual party. Plus, the lighting looks good when
parents are videotaping it. :eek

i actually think birthday star will stick in kids heads longer.

bday 02 is good tho. theres nothing wrong with it. (well except that in la mirada, ca the video and the stage dont work with the song. only the music plays. lol. but thats a whole 'nother topic).

it would be nice to see a new bday song just to keep it fresh and have something new. i personally think there should be a new one every couple years because if kids are supposed to be coming back for more birthdays, itll look better if theres a new song.

True, but who says they need to use someone elses' song?

That't the lazy way out anyway...what we REALLY need is a all new, original composition. Birthday Star was a orginal, Company created song. They did'nt have to pay royalty rights to anyone. Now if they could come up with a song like this in-house, they are all set!

Now the question is....do they have some songwriters in-house that could DO this???

YoungCaliHottie
11-24-2005, 04:49 AM
hmm... actually when i took a closer look over the last couple days at cec, i think that i will have to admit that kids probably like bday 02 the best. they were really interacting and doing the dances and singing the songs.

...i just hope none of them go home and actually stir their cake with a garden rake! :rollin

Yeah, I agree they should come up with a some what new B-day song.

B-day 02' is AWESOME!! ... For like 5yr. olds.
4-6 year old kids love to dance along and play but...........
Im getting sick (out of costume) performing the B-day 02 song for like 9/10 year olds that have there party there to play games and when we do live show, they either sit there with a blank stare and think were all idiots....or there jumping up and down climbing all over everything, thinks its the funniest thing ever.
I think they should come up with something for the older kids and keep b-day 02 for the younglings.

I'm sorry, but Birthday 2002 SUX!
I hjave tried and tried and tried to get into that song, and get other guest into it, and it doesn't work as good as Birthday Star. I mean, yes it is repetitive, but people know it. The Bake a Cake show is BEYOND boring, and too damn long.
We now do B-Day star at our store cause Bake A Cake just wasn't working, and we were getting complaints about NOT doing b-day star. It is more preferred.
Just wanted to say that.

Don't get me wrong, nothing is better than the old B-day
but when you look at the direction of the company and
with the right motivation, you can make New Birthday
just as good. We have our ways of doing it out this way
at my store, and it works for us and our DM now wants
others doing it that way, too. It really can be pulled off. :)

Here in Lakeland we used to use B-day '02 all the time, but always get complaints that we don't do "the old one"...Birthday Star. my feelings on the different bday songs:

how can you beat birthday star?? Its a freakin classic!! I remember back in the day in the old bridgeville store when i was a party-ho. we had an old 2 stage with cyberstar and before we would put bday star in, we would announce what we were doing and make the kids practice it once ('ok, were gonna say happy, you say bday...) now bridgeville had a huge showroom, 6 rows or 30 seats or so. there was nothing better on a saturday in february doing birthday show and having 150+ kids screaming. in my opinion, that MADE the party. thats why i loved doing them. and i loved the days when i wasnt doing parties and i would stand in the back of the showroom and watch the show (when i shouldve been busing;) ).

i remember the first time i heard bday 02 and i about died. this is going to replace bday star??? wtf?? thank god we were still franchise then and our dm didnt make us do it.

i never actually had to even deal with bday 02 til i worked in north hills. i used to always join the live shows as a manager, then id go through and talk to the moms. when i was there, i had no interest in it. i hated the song, and even more hated the horrific dance they had made up.

when i left there to open johnstown, they were trained on bday 02 but i wasnt there long enough to care much about it. when i went to my current home in butler (dirty 530 as they call it....) they did bday 02 for about 6 months or so, then i taught them bday star, the way we used to do it in bridgeville. they loved it! most of my cm had never been to a cec before, so it was all new to them. it brought back the magic of the song for me and they still do it to this day.

so, yea, wow, that was my long rant. im not a fan of eddie, i think hes annoying and i really dont like that bday song. either way thou, come on, bday star is a freakin classic and no matter what, ill always have a soft spot for it

It's "Star" all the way for me.

Why...it's a better song to me, and ithe interaction is better. Sure the "Eddie" version has some interaction ( namely, the "Bake A Cake" sequence...) but "Star" had far more interaction bits. Kids love to feel directly involved in the show and "02" lacks in this. However, we should keep in mind that what REALLY makes or breaks a Live Show is the STAFF and their attitude/performance of it. It's not the song..it's the skit you do to it that makes a show memorable really.

"Star" was my show in the day, so it will always be "special" to me. The "Eddie" song is okay...i mean it's not really that terrible..but it's not a huge fave of mine.

So many times i hear of stores re-introducing "Star" to there CM's and they immediately find it better then what they were doing. There is just something about it...and i strongly feel it's the more solid opportunity for the audience participation.

I mean seriously...what is there to really do during the "Eddie" version? Bake a Cake is IT really...

"Star" has not only a chorus that the audience can sing ( and children too for that matter) but the clapping, foot stomping, and more. It gets the crowd whipped into a frenzy when it's performed right...so again, this brings back the hard fact that it's really all about the performance of your staff and not nessesarily the show.

Of course...it does help to have a GOOD song to start with...

Heh heh!!

Well thanks for the list KC....

Let's all hope this..THIS..will be the show to FINALLYget excited about and then discover once we arrive to see it that it truly IS exciting.

I sure hope so...it already has some major built-in appeal for the parents ( note heavy use of 80's songs..always a plus in my book) so now if it turns out that these "cover versions" are kick butt, whoa....this could possibly be the best show since 2 years ago!

But then again..maybe not. Either way i'm not holding my breath.

Thanks Munch Jr!

The song schedule looks great...can't say the same for the intermission line-up.

Can't wait to see it! Promise to get up a brand new review for y'all asap!

I hope we get ours Monday too. Since we are on 3-stage DVD we don't have the "Generic" showtapes to play anymore. We could play Sept '05 but technically I don't think its still under license.

Jan 2005 sounds like it will be worth the wait, though!

MatHat13
01-01-2006, 12:29 PM
Nah our store is playing Sep 05 til Jan 06 comes, I was pissed yesterday as I went in and they still didn't have the new show yet, and were playing Sep 05. >D

Mat, "B" will more then likely get the new show in on Tuesday or Wednesday. Monday is a holiday so no mail will arrive!

Hopefully this will be a decent show. The 80's songs seem to imply it will be a winner as far as actual Show Segments go...but those horrid modern day "intermissions" really need to go!

I don't care what kind of recycled footage they use, the Countdowns SUCK big time regardless!!

YoungCaliHottie
01-02-2006, 03:26 AM
well... they could be worse... i remember back in the day when the count down was simply the number of minutes remaining. it would start with a big 3-D "9" spinning slowly... then go to 8.. 7,6... all the way down. lol.

The show is shipped FedEx, which will be running.

Two things....one Fedex wasn't running Monday (CEC told all stores this in an email) also the show ships in the weekly packet via postal service

YoungCaliHottie
01-03-2006, 03:20 AM
wow.... i wonder what happened where the shows barely shipped a few days ago. seems like every cec is just doing their own thing right now. (which i actually like. i miss each cec/ptt having their own main attraction.) yesterday one cec was playing the sports tape. another cec was playing the variety show. todays cec i went to was playing the sept show. another one was playing best of cectv. seems like its kinda "play whatever tape you can find". lol.

MatHat13
01-03-2006, 06:58 AM
Which sports show do you mean, the Games 91 one?

YoungCaliHottie
01-03-2006, 07:10 AM
spring training :)

games is my all time favorite tho! hey, u just gave me an idea for a topic! lol

pizzacam
01-03-2006, 12:58 PM
A store was playing Spring Training?! like the one from 93? oh...maybe you bean the best of from 93..which had the baseball skit one it...that one's generic.

Shiney Happy Jenn
01-03-2006, 07:55 PM
And a awesome show Best of CECtv 93' is too!

The animations in that...wow...great old-school stuff!

Damn i wish the shows these days were just as good as that ol' classic.

Yes, most locations usually play whatever generic shows they still have floating around. Technically, they should not be playing September's show, but some stores don't have any generic shows now since they received the dvd switchout.

Those stores out there that still have the original CyberStar video system are lucky ducks!!

YoungCaliHottie
01-03-2006, 09:46 PM
could have been best of 93. it was a generic tape.

sept cec was also using tapes.

Franchises can do whatever they want when it comes to services i would guess, so maybe this is why FedEx is the way it comes?

FedEx rocks.

I must admit, I think this new show is very good. Programming shows improvement, lovely songs, character interaction. Nice job, guys!:D

YoungCaliHottie
01-04-2006, 03:44 AM
hmm... i was kinda disappointed. seems like the songs weren't as upbeat as they should have been? the programming and cectv was nice and well done tho. but i found myself not really drawn to the show. i noticed most people werent even watching. ...and i was in bell!

sungun12
01-04-2006, 07:59 AM
yea, i noticed there were some slower less upbeat songs, but its still awesome. at least if they were going to do that they picked good songs to do it with.

what i like about you - the best on the show. god i loved that as a live show. i found it hard not to break out into a dance cause pathetically enough, i still remember the one we did...

Hey guys!

The new Review is up! I still have a little updating to do to it, but in all it's finished and ready for readin'.

rock_afire.tripod.com/jas...nuary.html (http://rock_afire.tripod.com/jasper/cecmodern/2006_january.html)

My two favorite moments: The reference to the curtains removal and the new Sing Along Guys episode! Poor Rob screwing things up all the time ;)

Enjoy the review!

01-04-2006, 11:58 PM
oh yea i forgot about that, i was wondering if anyone noticed the curtain comment, i found that absolutely hilarious!!

YoungCaliHottie
01-05-2006, 08:32 PM
i didnt. the stage wasnt loud enough.

but there was this one very awkward part where one of them said they liked the song. then each of them agreed that they liked the song. then they all said they liked the song again. i felt like i was watching a preschool show. it was pretty rediculous in my opinion. unless there was something i missed. maybe since i couldnt hear everything well...

CEC TechMan
01-06-2006, 10:43 AM
NO, you're right. The dialouge has gotten so stupid in recent years. And quite frankly so have the shows. The programming on this one gets a big thumbs down, too. I miss Matt and Jeremy. And Jeremy if you're reading this.... cut your freaking hair man, geez. Are you trying to look like Hanson?

now that i think about it, dont they like every song they do? would they do a song they didnt like? i could just picture it... helen: "what the hell was that?" munch: "that song made me NOT hungry! im gonna throw up!" pasqually: "yeah, i dont wanna have ta play ah that song every hour. it was ah no good!" jasper: "come on now chuck, that was just some f'd up bulls***. i aint playin that crap again! ya hear?"

lol :lol

I thought this new show was awesome, way better than Sep 05!

Pros:
*Wow Helen really did wonderful on all three of the songs, I loved it when she sang Daydream Believer and Biggest Part Of Me, they really touched me big time.
*Chuck, err, Duncan's singing voice really has sparked greatly too lately, "Big Country" really sounded awesome in his vocals for that number.
*The jokes in the show were pretty funny, like the curtains not working and Chuck guessing what song Jasper wanted to hear next, pretty funny stuff.
*The Countdown Workout Music is slick although its been used before.
*Programming was great.

Cons:
*Once agian the intermissions, just not any good material agian.
*Artist Spotlight, man what the hell was that, it wasn't my cup of tea.
*The Veggietales song: I'm surprised, the last few Veggie songs we had were great, and this one seemed a little pointless.
*The dialoge seemed a bit corny in some parts.
*Jeremy what's with the long hair?:lol
*Video Footage, some of it was not too good.

In all I rate this show a B+, if the intermissions were better and more fun it would have gotten an A-.

hey guys. I saw the new DVD show and I Love it alot.:D Our moon is the announcer for every beginning of each show. I also love how they even brought back some reused show footages plus the Charlie Rocket intermssion with him sporting his yellow hair look. The new veggie tales intermission is cute.

Hey Matt (mathat), if u like this show better than September 05 show, and you give January 2006 a B+, then what did you give September??
I've worked during the show, but I havent really had much time to pull over and watch the whole thing, but from hearing it, it sounds good, but I think I like Sept 05 better...Idk yet..

And Nevin, thanks for the side note about Moon being your anouncer, thats a really cool fact, Bird is ours for the Studio C alpha stores;)

Well I went and filmed at one of the Austin stores today(Ben White) This HAS to be the BEST 3 stage I've seen in a LOOOONG time...I filmed skits 1&3 So I can send out copies of it soon. They still had all their props and they worked too! Pizzacam was working great and so were the moon and building mechs. All the characters' mouths worked, the lighting at that store is awesome too cause the showroom's so big it makes the room darker too...By the way this stage is on DVD now too. ;)

Heres the link: "What I Like About You" Live (http://rock_afire.tripod.com/jasper/ceclive/2001_like.html)
