I already posted this in the Sir Duke thread but thought it should get it's own.

Yeah. When I was teaching Mike how to program, I let him pick his own songs. He has made it a hobby now, instead of a training exercise. I have programmed two shows that were not CEC related. One was "What Would You Say" by the Dave Matthews Band and the other is "Tree Tops" by a less well known group called Eisley. Check out the Tree Tops video here.

That is awesome!!

Who did the video recording/editing?

Did anyone ever practice with "Anna Grey" songs? That would have been interesting. Is it Helen? Or is it Anna Grey? heheh..

I tried downloading it to take a look...but my system can't open it for some odd reason. I have never had any problems before.

Any chance someone could download this in a form suitable for dial-up connections? I'd like to check this out.

If you are using dial up, take note - this file is about 15 megabyes. It will take quite a while to download completely over dialup (20 minutes? 30 minute? more?). If it stops downloading prematurely the file may be unplayable.

WoW

Okay, it took me a while to get to watching this clip, but I am so glad. First off, what a great song. Never heard of the group, but based on this, am going to have the album soon.

Now the important things. This is the first time I have seen the HQ programming room show in action. It really does pay off to maintain the shows!!!

This video also shows just how much time and care is really put into the programming for the 3 stage (and C Stage too) This is not evident in most store operations due to the lack of maintenance and operating features. It also is lost when translated into the 2 stage bots.

I am particularly impressed with the use of lighting in the shows. From the first drum beat right through the final blackout on the last note, the use of the available lighting just "KICKS A$$". From the separation of the "keyboard front lights" with the chord changes to the strobes for an added punch, right through the timed pattern of the overhead colors is noted and appreciated!

The character movements are right in-tune with the song, and it is absolutely wonderful to see Jasper "playing" and Munch's hands actually moving up and down the keys as the octaves change. (You can tell my local show must really be in poor shape!)

Thanks for posting this cut. I must complement the hard work you guys put into this "demo" and now know what efforts are behind many of the previous shows.

Good Show!

~Michael

P.S. Hey Mix, did you ever consider doing this for a living? LOL Just Kidding!

I've watched this over and over again and compared it to my stage. I like the fact that its so close up to the characters and a very clear picture. And I really like that song, though I've never heard of that group before.

I want one of those red things that goes around Jasper's neck!

It also looks like Helen's eyelids have a more limited range than the shows in the field (watch it really close and compare to your Helen bot). I am always battling breaking eyelids. Maybe I should make some further adjustments to mine (brass).

Thanks for all the encouraging feedback. It is true, there is a lot of time, energy and creativity that goes into show programming and animation. It is a real shame that CEC doesn't encourage better upkeep of the stages out there. I found my self usually just animating the stage for my own enjoyment, because if I thought of the condition of the stages in the field it would be sort of depressing. However I new that there were probably a few out there that were in pretty good shape, so that always helped motivate me. Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of animatronic programming jobs out there. Otherwise I'd probably have no problem finding a new job with my experience.

Mix...

In all seriousness have you ever considered contacting and applying for a position at Walt Disney Imagineering? The have several positions in there Show department for animating their animatronics. Have you looked into this at all?

Since you are already within the Disney Company it may be easier to have a look in then someone on the "outside". Your work more then qualifies so don't think for a minute you are'nt good enough for Disney animatronic animation!

Go for it!

Hey,
In the video, in front of the piano - there is a large silver tube in that looks like it has something red in it. Is that a prop? Just wondering if there is something my area CEC is missing.

Thanks!
Beth

That's Munch Jr. Choo-Choo's replacement, most 3 stages removed him by now but here's what he looked like out of the vent...
