No surprises here....

I remember when i recieved this show back when it was brand new ( nov 2002) and the flyer that came with it specifically said that it was to be our Holiday Show for the next 5/6 years!

Needless to say my jaw dropped......and it dropped even further when i saw what was replacing the previous Holiday Show ( CEC's Holiday Party 99' thru 01' season). I LOVED that show! It's THE best Christmas Show CEC in any of it's forms has ever produced, in my opinion. Everything on it is RIGHT! It's awesome!!! The current one does'nt so anything for me at all....i have tried but it's not my cup of tea. I don't care for the layout, and many of the songs are only so-so. That does'nt mean i hate it...as i don't. It's a okay show....and there are highlights for me but in general the previous effort was far superior.

I look forward to the NEW show next year!

Well I hate to come in here and bust your flaps, but I wouldnt get your hopes up for a new holiday show anytime soon. It's likely, but it's also unlikely. That show might be around for a few more years. Keyword being "might":eek

Damn...why do I get the feeling CEC's eventually gonna just have one show playing over and over until enough people say it's irritating and CECE just takes out the show all together. :rolleyes

Shiney Happy Jenn
10-17-2006, 06:09 PM
That actually does not surprise me in the least really guys....

I can so totally see CEC eventually whittling things down to just ONE "new" show a year, and the rest of the time use old "generic" shows.

Think about it.....

Mike, here's my suggestion:

If the Company is not up for making a totally NEW holiday show next year, then how about re-issuing the fantastic previous seasons offering? Holiday Party is still current (all current voices, characters are current pretty much) and many people have probably not seen it yet! This show is well worth issueing again.

Another idea that is past material ( including this year's edition) could be compiled together. It's the classic standard "generic" showtape/disc where all the highlights from previous seasons are crammed together and issued as a new package. As much as i don't care for the rampant "recycling" we have seen over the past couple of years, this concept would actually work WELL for the holiday show. Most X-mas songs are "recycled" every year anyway and people know them as such.

As long as the "current" show is finally laid to rest after this year ( fingers and toes crossed) life will be good at CEC.

:rolleyes My goodness... look at what just got started in here.

Well Miss Jenn, since you seem to be the only one not poppin off after my last post. I'll be more than happy to respond to your post.

As far as just producing one show a year, I really doubt that is going to happen. Now your suggestion on the other hand is a great one and funny you should mention that, cause we've kinda tossed around that idea. I'm uncertain if it will become reality next year but I'll make an effort to convince the powers that be.

Thank you Puppermaster29....

I am pleased to hear that i am not the only one who has been thinking of this idea for a show concept! Cool!

It makes sense, as even though it would contain "old" stuff, it would be "new" as i don't think there has ever been a "Best of Holiday" Show to date. There is a truck load of great, great material just sitting there that could be used and produce perhaps the best Holiday ever ( hey! That could be the shows' title! "CEC's Best Holiday Ever" compilation!).

I can so totally see this working very well with the holiday show...cut some songs together from Holiday Party 99-01', toss in a few bits from the "current" edition, and throw a few tunes in from Holiday 98' and further if need be. All the voices would still match ( all the same voice actors to date) and the material is timeless in may respects.

This covers all the bases. You get a great show with proven material, a show produced with a good turnaround time in these tight times, plus the added bonus of knowing the FANS will lap it up as a nod to the past.

Sounds like a winner to me....altough it would be nice to have a ALL NEW show, if that is not feasable when the time comes then this Holiday compilation would fit the bill just fine in the meantime.

i'm for that bringing back anything from the past from 90's to what's current. I love how it's been done so far with this show's tapes/ DVDs. Shows some of the old intermission show footages with the hear we come a caroling, and silver bells footage 92-93-94.:D Will the curtains still be operational for this current modified Christmas DVD?:D

You know the current Happy Holiday's show is ok. It's something we all have to get use to. Just like the repeating summer show.. Look at the show we have right now by reusing the old summer show they had more time and energy to create an awesome September show...

Hey Michael Hill: At the store my dad works at during one of the skits it always freezes up. i believe it's with the toyland skit if i recall right.. (Studio C Alpha)

Well they could always pop in a generic show if they are really sick of the Sept one already....

We would usually start our Holdiay Show the day after T-Giving. I remember that well, as i used to go in on Thanksgiving Day ( when the store was closed) and spend about 6 hours setting up the Stage decorations. Those who have seen my display ( pix in the Gallery here) will see that it really DID take 6 hours! LOL! At that time the "old" show was taken away and the Holiday 99/00/01' became the Official soundtrack to the Danvers Holiday Spectacular.

Man i miss that show....

Glad i have it on cassette.....i enjoy listening to the music on my headphones when i travel during the holidays. That show was such a winner....the "current" one ( which has played for the past 5 years....zzz) does not do much for me really.

Yeah great set up Jenn I remember seeing your pics in the That's Entertainment from a few years ago...My favorite holiday shows are the "Home For The Holidays" show from 87-90 and the '95-'97 "Magical Holiday Celebration". Holiday "01 is pretty good too I like Big Band Santa. :b

on one of the videos Jenn yuou saisd it took 11 hours to set that up is that 11 hours over two days?

Shiney Happy Jenn
11-24-2006, 08:33 PM
I don't remember where i had said that Danny, but i'm sure it relates to the prep time for the CEC Holdiay Party EVENT we had. The prep time for decorating the showroom, tables, lining up the entertainment for the evening, and free giveaways for the Guests who took a part in that fun evening. That is probably where the 11 hours came from.

To change the Danvers 2-Stage into the Christmas version, it took me 6 hours. I still have all the stuff ( except the coat for CEC which J let me borrow those years). It's a regular "kit" so i could show up at any CyberStage location and literally do the same display as we had in Danvers. It was very cool to see in person...the video that exsists ( CEC's Holiday Party Event) does not do it justice. The lighting effects were awesome in the flesh. Photos of my two shows ( Methuen i also did for 2 years) have appeared in the Dept 18 Newsletter since 2002. I am honored by this continued use, and wonder if they will be in this years as well.

The Methuen show i did ( Studio C-hristmas) only took about 3/4 hours to set up. It was not as complicated for obvious reasons ( less stage space/ less characters to deal with). I still rigged the X-mas lights up to the show controller though as i had done in Danvers so the lights would move in sych with the show. This was neat, and it looked as if it was all programmed to be that way.

God i miss that part of my job there a lot........

Sadly today neither location does anything with the stages. Danvers now has absolutely NOTHING at all...no decor of any kind ( not even hats for pizza's sake!) and last i heard Methuen does little if nothing as well.

Very sad to see for me.

CEC3066
11-25-2006, 12:40 AM
that's because both stores are in JC's district and when it comes to decorating for Christmas JC is a SCROOGE

Shiney Happy Jenn
11-28-2006, 09:50 PM
Well... to be fair i would have to say that it is not entirely all his fault.

Stores can decorate provided it is PC friendly ( more "Happy Holidays..less "Merry X-mas" type decor.) The main reason why Danvers in particular is so bare is that there is no one there now ( except J) that gives a toss about decorating.

I remember vividly the past couple of years....absolutely NOTHING. Not even stuff up front near cash...forget about the show! Freaking sad when you think of the big box of CECE wreaths, bows, lights, etc. that are in the back room. I know. I PUT THEM THERE when i left!! LOL!!

J did get to decorate the show the first year i was gone, but since then as far as i know nothing has been done. He wanted to decorate the place/show the past few years but was told no. Last i heard it was orders from the upper ( JC in this case) but who really knows if that was the truth?

Sometimes i think that Danvers is doomed to be smothered like this creatively because of what happened in the past ( scandalous to some, legendary to others...lol..). It is as if someone has made it their personal duty to ensure that what happened previously never happens again.

I feel sorry for the folks there in "D" as it must suck to work at a store that has no decor for the Holidays. Talk about a kill-joy moral booster, regardless of what winter holiday you celebrate!

Well, Since pretty much everyone has been off topic, im gonna bring it back up on topic.
Even though most of you dislike the current Holiday show, we actually got an update this year. Nothing to big or special, but some new intermissions from the last 2 years....I haven't found time to look and see what some of the intermissions were, but I know we got something new, because we got new 06' Holiday discs and 06' floppy...
I'll try to get most of you updated, Danny and I have been slacking on the Jasper's Review site...so I'll try to get my Sept. review, Jumpin' Review, and Holiday 06 review up soon!

Jeez, now I remember why I left this board for 4 months...:\

Anywhom, thanks, at least making the Holiday 06 review will be easy...*copy and paste!*
Like I said, haven't really paid attention to the show, just thought since new discs and floppy, should equal new material... proves what a d/a I am for falling for Mike's cheap tricks...:b

Not gonna ask why you wasted over 900 DVDs and 300 floppy's, for the same show, when we could of kept re-using the Holiday 04 discs and floppys...

Alright nutcracker, why couldn't you simply send the new stores and the stores that misplaced, damaged, had them stolen *not mentioning names*...etc... then why couldn't you simply send the 04 discs???
Plus, how come the Over the Hedge promo's that were in the Sept. 06 show, are in the Holiday 06 show?? That shows u LIED, U LIED!

the content on this holiday show is EXACTLY the same.

Also nutcracker, how come you didn't put Shuffle 06 on the new dvds? I mean, if your gonna send out over 900ish dvds, you might as well upgrade it with the new stuff...my store doesn't do Shuffle as a live, but what about all the other studio c stores that do?!
Caught in a pickle didnt I :b !

Alright nutcracker
You gotta do better than that. You might as well just have said " I know you are but what am I.":lol

Plus, how come the Over the Hedge promo's that were in the Sept. 06 show, are in the Holiday 06 show??

You deluded yourself. Over the Hedge was realased in theaters May 19 of 2006. The holiday 06 show is an exact copy of the 04 version as is the 05 version. Notice the underlined words " exact copy." As I said before the only thing we have been changing was the year. OK, you should be able to figure it out from here.8o

MatHat13
01-03-2007, 02:26 PM
Honestly the only good thing in the Holiday show is the 'Here we come a Wassailing" song in the last segment.

Shiney Happy Jenn
01-03-2007, 06:50 PM
Yes, the finale number ( "We Wish you a Merry X-mas/ Here we come a Wassaling") IS the best number on the tape. Coupled with Helen's excellent rendition of "I heard the Bells on X-mas Day". I never cared for the format ( Chuck and pals "talking" to Santa and his Elves via the tv monitor) and the poorer sound production always turned me off. Compare this show to the previous one ( CEC's Holiday Party 99/00/01') and there is such a HUGE difference is the production quality and musical composition.

The intermissions were better then too...EXSPECIALLY the famous "banned" first edition of CEC's Holiday Party. It contained "Commerical Free Christmas" by Jeremy which was a wonderful satire about the overzealous greed that sadly has overtaken a lot of the Christmas season. Corporate issued the show, but there was such negative feedback that within 2/3 days they suddenly issued a statement to all stores to immediatly send it back via overnight mail! The next day a new "edited" version of Party arrived...but of course "Commerical Free Christmas" was deleted.

This was'nt the first time this classic show was "censored". In 2001 Corporate issued another edited version that removed all visual references to the Twin Towers in NYC. The finale number ( Jingle Bells/Deck the Halls/ We wish you..) originally contained images of the Towers amoung the other footage of CEC and Helen enjoying a visit to NYC. Some Guests however were upset and did'nt want to be reminded of the tragety that happened a mere 2 months earlier at this happy time of year, so the sequence was retouched.

So for the fanatic collectors out there, CEC's Holiday Party had several versions despite the fact it was the same show for those 3 years.

Original uncut version ( released late Nov 1999) Contained all original footage, including "Commercial Free Christmas"

Edited version 99' ( reissued within days of reciept of above version) Sent out immediatly to remove "Commerical Free Christmas" from the show segments.

Version 3 00' ( released late Nov 2000) Same as above in content, but extras bumpers were added to extend the entire program due to "CF X-mas" being removed. Added bumpers were images of the Dept 18 Holiday Party t-shirts being made.

Version 4 01' ( released late Nov 2001) This version was edited to remove all images of the Twin Towers since 9/11 had happened just 2 months earlier. Studio C locations were sent a special "filter" floppy to alter the previous seasons disc to censor the images.

There is also a Version 5, but this is the same as Version 3 but just with a more generic label and total generic status ( never expired). This version was sent to stores who requested a replacement tape with a special offer flyer that was sent to stores before the start of the 00/01' seasonal run.

So there you go.....a little behind the story history of my fave Holiday Show!
