The music of Tom Petty has really grown on me in recent months. I have developed a deep thrill with his classic material from his heyday. He made lots of likable songs on the albums that he released during the first fifteen years or so of his recording career. Petty and his band, the Heartbreakers, have also produced some interesting music videos through the years. Of all of them though, the most unforgettable is, without question, the video for "Don't Come Around Here No More".

The "Don't Come Around Here No More" music video was influenced by the Lewis Carroll storybook Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. This delightful five-minute clip was directed by Jeff Stein in 1985. "Don't Come Around Here No More" was the lead single off of the Southern Accents album. Eurythmics member Dave Stewart cowrote the song with Petty and he also appears as the caterpillar character. Tom portrays the Mad Hatter while he and his bandmates do lots of eating and drinking with the Alice girl. Most people that have seen this video seem to always remember the way that it concludes. The clip's final minute shows Alice being eaten by the band after she is transformed into a giant cake. I wonder how that was done? Regardless, I bet that the bakery that was hired put in a lot of time and effort to get it right for the video. I really like to eat cake too! Every time I watch this clip on the Playback DVD I always think of how much I like sweets. Also, I would not mind dressing up like the Mad Hatter. The main thing that I need is the right kind of hat. This music video will remain one of my main favorites done by Tom and the gang.

Does anyone else remember this work of art?
